Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

Unions and their client state local elected officials are considering at least one way to force supermarkets and other businesses to pay bloated "living wages" and submit to other socialist schemes: hurt the businesses by denying their liquor licenses or building permits. Man I hope those stores sue. The LA Times, in an excellent editorial, takes the unions and politicians to task for blatantly abusing the liquor license procedure for political aims.

Bitter Bernie just can't get over his bitterness that he's no longer police chief. Just about everyone on the Council (except for Richard Alarcon who was out of town, probably running for some office) has backed the re-hiring of police chief Bill Bratton, but Parks is going kicking and screaming.

In a welcome switch, a company is moving from out of state to the San Fernando Valley. Entertainment producer PrimEdge Inc. will move its headquarters to Burbank from Florida. Now, if we could have got this firm to have moved to North Hollywood or Studio City or perhaps even Van Nuys or Pacoima, it would have been even better. Lets hope the City can start to figure out we need high end jobs like this in these communities.

CurbedLA has found some developers who claim that converting old commercial properties to condos can actually cut back on traffic. Makes sense - an office building that may have once housed a 1000 workers and their cars might only house 300-400 people - as well as attract far less other souls and their cars such as deliverymen, guests, salesmen, job seekers, customers, etc.

Real estate developer Simpson Housing has done a beautiful job turning a turn of the century bank building into loft housing downtown including a portion of affordable housing. Now lets hope developers can find a way to do the same thing with the historic post-modern Citibank Building in North Hollywood.

Thursday on Patt Morrison's KPCC radio show, a possible guest is none other than Sherry Bebitch-Jeffee, a political "expert" who probably carries even less weight with this blog than Jack Kyser.

Kudos to the LA City Library: All branches now offer free wi-fi. Zuma Dogg you now have 71 more offices.
