What a difference a year makes as only a minuscule fraction of the crowds of 2006 turned out at twin protests on Tuesday. And some of those who did became violent, requiring tough action from the LAPD.
One person who was conspicuous by his absence was Mayor Villaraigosa. He was heading off on a trade mission south of the border. And there is no indication that immigration will be discussed with Mexican government officials during the Mayor's trip.
In other Villaraigosa related news the Mayor set tongues wagging at last weekend's state Democratic convention by his unusually low profile and his private meeting with his potential 2010 gubernatorial primary opponent, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
To end the day the Mayor got some bad news. His 2003 Council campaign is the subject of a 31 count ethics violation accusation filed Tuesday by the City of Los Angeles Ethics Commission.

The executive director of the Los Angeles Ethics Commission on Tuesday accused Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of 31 violations of campaign finance and disclosure laws stemming from his 2003 campaign for the City Council.
If the Ethics Commission finds after a hearing that city rules were violated, Villaraigosa and his campaign could be fined up to $267,000, though commission officials are believed to be willing to settle the case for about $40,000 in penalties.
The vast majority of candidates settle alleged campaign finance violations without a public accusation being issued, but the mayor has decided to contest one of the allegations.... Pelham accused Villaraigosa and his campaign of accepting four contributions that exceeded the $500 limit for individuals by a total of $1,300, including excessive donations from theater chain owner Bruce Corwin and attorney Alan Rothenberg, a mayoral appointee as president of the city Airport Commission.
The mayor also is accused of failing to file copies of campaign literature with the commission in 23 instances, and failing to file a script of two automated telephone calls and one radio advertisement.
The largest ethics fine against an elected city official was $105,000. It was levied last year against former Councilman Martin Ludlow for receiving excess contributions and other violations.

Antonio is up for 31 violations for his 2003 city council campaign! Isn't that the campaign were Parke and Antonio's stooges painted Nick Pacheco as corrupt? Isn't that the campaign were Antonio put out mailers that the Mothers of East L.A. were illegally funding Nick's campaign? The Mothers later got cleared by the Ethics commission but their organization was destroyed, along with their $40,000 a year scholarship fund.

Anyone who watches the videos that KTLA is showing not the other stations can see the radical gang bangers throwing shit at the cops way before they went in to push them out. There's one video where the gang bangers are in the street giving gang signs and fingering the cops. These are the assholes who vandalized many businesses last year. They didn't give them a permit this year cause they said it would be a public safety issue and these assholes did it anyway. I just watched the news on Channel 9, this is why our police dept. finds it tough to be effective we are apologizing on T.V. to people who are here illegally, became agressive against our police deptartment first. No one disputes that there were anarchists inthe crowd. They are part of every crowd at every rally in L.A.. The situation was in control and as Ch. 11 put it out - the police were laughing as they moved through the park. It's all on camera and the camera doesn't lie. These police were acting like the way these racists anti-iimigrant punks wanted them to act - as if these undocumented immigrants weren't human at all. For the person who thinks El Salvador is part of Mexico, it is not. That would be like calling a Japaneese person, Chinese, they are very different culturally. As Americans are very different than the Swedish. America is very young compared to all of these much older cultures who have been around for thousands of years. The lingerers were a mix of protesters and reporters. Some were reporters from established news organizations watching or recording what police were doing, and some were self-styled grassroots reporters -- protesters with cameras -- some of whom were both filming officers closely and yelling challenges at them.

I think I can factually make a case that people in the following categories are nut jobs:
1.) Those that support and advocate illegal immigration...especially in light of the fact that there is legal methods of immigration available. If these people were sane and logical, they would advocate a workers program for Mexicans to work in the United States rather than for people to enter the country illegally.
2.) People that advocate beating and brutalizing unarmed human beings simply because they are here illegally especially in light of the fact that our government tolerates this.
L.A. mayor's anti-gang plan flawed, consultant says

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's anti-gang plan contains flaws that may jeopardize its ability to keep young people out of trouble, a consultant hired by the city warned Wednesday.
The critical comments were made by Connie Rice, director of Advancement Project Los Angeles.
The organization, which was paid $593,000 to study the city's gang prevention and intervention programs, found in a recent report that they were ineffective, lacking focus and badly coordinated.
"We are about to make the same mistakes we identified in our report — inadequate funding, unstable funding," Rice told the City Council's Ad Hoc Committee on Gang Violence and Youth Development.
In a memo to the council, the Advancement Project said the mayor's plan had no definition of success for gang programs so that they could be evaluated, lacked clear benchmarks or performance standards and had "inadequate funds," 40% of which go to suppression programs.
