Body Count
By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, MooreIsBetter.com.
The City's Animal Services Department has issued a 28-page annual report.
The cover features -- naturally enough -- a picture of Mayor Photo-Op hugging a puppy.
Buried on page page 22 are the actual numbers of dogs and cats killed each year: 6,937 dogs per year, which is 19 per day, and 12,278 cats per year, or 33 per day.
In a city of 3.9 million people, with an annual budget of $6.7 billion, we can find homes for these pets. We don't have to kill them. We just need a mayor unwilling to accept unnecessary cruelty to animals.
Posing with a puppy for a photo isn't good enough. My platform: no kill, no delay, no excuses.

And where does the money go to feed and house these animals Walter?

Walter: no delay, no excuses, no brains.

But the mayor got his photo op --isn't that what is important..?

The Mayor is parody of himself in that photo. How ridiculous.

Without mandatory neutering funded by the City, the killing will go on forever.

The photo of the mayor was taken six months ago at an animal shelter grand opening event. There were animals there. The mayor appears to like them. What's the big deal?
What's a parody is people like Walter Moore continuing to say they would "just stop the killing!" with a phone call or a wave of a magic wand. Maybe Walter will go buy a big truck, take those 33 animals a day that would otherwise be euthanized, drive them somewhere and let them go free. Then he can come back the next day and do it again. And the next day, and the next day, and so on. The flow never stops.
That would be an actual plan compared to what we've seen from him in terms of what would happen if his prescription for what to do with the avalanche of homeless animals coming into the shelters every week were to be implemented. It's getting really old and even more tired. Stop the killing? No, stop the BS "play to the peanut gallery" rhetoric!

The budget is actually $21,000,000 for the Department. They killed over 22,000 animals last year. They have 300 or so employees. Most of the money goes to salaries.
We don't have enough funding for spayneuter of all pets in LA that need it.

I agree with the others. You need a plan. You can't just warehouse these animals for ever. There's not enough room or money. They need to stop the flow of animals coming into the shelter.

Actually, my platform has a detailed plan on how I would stop the killing. It doesn't involve a magic wand.

No, the magic wand is the stick that is so far up your ass it's intruding on your brain. Maybe you should reproduce the animal part of your "platform" here so we don't have to go on a snipe hunt to find it.
