Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

A political science student in Greig Smith's district couldn't name him and a CSUN political science professor says the fact that no one opted to run against Smith means he's doing great. Whether the actual number is 7.7% or 15% or one in 100,000, the turnout for Tuesday's city primary was abysmal. At least one of our readers says that's exactly what the politicians want.

Watch your wallets! Following the failure of Measure H in November - the affordable housing bond scam of 2006 - Mayor Villaraigosa wants to come back with yet another bond measure, adding to the further debt of homeowners - most of whom can barely afford the high cost of housing in Los Angeles as it is. Lets keep an eye on it and organize the right way to oppose this unnecessary boondoggle.

Grieg Smith - fresh off getting re-elected with more votes than anyone else on the Clowncil - has a silly idea: creating a city pollution top cop. The post would be responsible for writing citation$ to businesses that "pollute." With all the Al Gore inspired hysteria and junk science surrounding global warming and pollution how can we trust these citations would be fair and consistent? There must be another way than this press release stunt.

Joe Mailander reports that Brady Westwater confirms what Martini Republic told us Tuesday: Eli Broad is not really leaving the goofy Grand Avenue project. Its just a reshuffling of deck chairs on the Titanic.

The LA City Clowncil doesn't mind hiking the trash fees or bond payments of good people already living here but they oppose a slight fee hike by the Feds for those who wish to become citizens. The fee helps defray the cost of processing by the federal government and also serves as a signal of a commitment to the process of an immigrant to earn the privilege of US citizenship.

Thursday at 2:00 p.m. on KPCC, Patt Morrison will host LAPD Chief William Bratton and ask him about new complaints about policing on skid row, hundreds of veteran officers retiring under a new program, and questions from listeners.

Joe Mailander tipped us off to this. Mack Reed, who gave up the ghost at LA Voice to turn it over to the Republicans, is quietly blogging over at Metroblogging. He's been doing it for some time but in case you're missing an Eastside White Guy fix, there is hope for you.

The Mayor sneezes, and the La Antonio Times is there.

Not one but two scribes hot on the trail, reporting that, if there is an affordable housing bond in a year, a tax averse group will likely be against it, and a non-profit housing group will likely be for it.

I'm sure tomorrow the news eds will complain that they can't run all the news because of space constraints.

Oh, and here's the very bottom paragraph:

The mayor announced plans Monday to commit $137 million to developers to build 1,222 affordable units and an additional 274 units for homeless people.

Should have been the lede, and screw the year-down-the-road, pie-in-the-sky stuff.

That's a subsidy of $91,000 a unit. To a developer-crony, to "help" them make more money still. But the Times scribes leads with the Mayor's feelgood stuff a year from now.

Al Gore inspired Hysteria? Mayor Sam, are you really that much of a fool?

In case you have any sense left in that decrepit brain of yours, Global Warming has been fact for fifty years and the recent melting glaciers and disappearing ice packs at the poles ought to scare the By-Jesus out of anyone - even you.

David Hernandez checking in to let everyone know Justice will be served over Prop. R. Watch who steps in to take over the case from Mr. Hernadez. They have the money and reputation to take it all the way and win. ZD says, "Look for AlarCON to only be allowed to serve two years when Prop. R is overturned...plus everyone else will be looking for a new job a whole lot sooner.

Sorry David Hernandez "did this to you" Councilmember.

Great story by Steve Hymon in Times today. Weiss doesn't have a chance in hell for city attorney against Hertzberg. Did Weiss see Huggie Bobby's numbers during mayoral election?

Weiss Ass has Antonio backing but doesn't he know AV has lost tons of support cause he hasn't done anything?

....Weiss, 42, shrugs off such criticism. "I'm a prosecutor, not a politician," he said.
HELLLOOOOO!!! Will someone please tell Weiss Ass he's a clowncil man so that makes him a politician. DUMB DUMB DUMB ASS

Good Morning Joseph,

"HIS POLLONESS" in trouble and the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" is there

Scribe Rubin and Blume are on the trail of "HIS POLLONESS" effort to wrest control over the LAUSD School Board. Not to be outdone, the editorial department chimes in that our mayor (that hurts to type), should be given credit for trying.

but if you want real reporting, read the "Z-Man" in todays "WEEKLY OF RECORD", as he wraps up this weeks election coverage.

I do want real reporting!

What a sad day. Weiss takes the low turnout as his prompt to announce his intentions. He can get away with running a marathon---he knows, with the low, completely disinterested turnout, that he has no constituency at all to answer to. He'll bag his $171K/annum and coast from here to the next election opportunity. Whether he wins or not is almost irrelevant.

Meanwhile, developers---green light in Weiss's district! Bring in any 40-unit yuppieplex for permitting and you're money!

MayorSam is a speakerbox, but City Council, and therfore the whole City, is an echo chamber since Tuesday. Who made it that way?

ok Sam, I got problems with this post. You say the immigration fees are a "slight" increase?

since when is 80% slight? that's the hike for citizenship applications.
Its almost 180% for permanent legal resident.
that's not and never will be 'slight'. if you want to save some credibility you need to avoid 'spinning' your threads into the ridiculous.
Its a MASSIVE fee hike, and I don't mind if you justify it, just don't bullshit about it. that's why council is against it, and I agree. one more reason for 'illegals' to stay illegal even longer. 180% ?????
slight?

it ain't slight y'all.

just like the reduction in glaciers in the Rocky Mountains, down 66% since 1900. or worldwide down a massive 50%, that's HALF. its a lot. glaciers reflect sun, so as they disappear the effect of warming increases. in the himalayas the melting causes giant lakes which eventually break up and tumble down mountainsides destroying everything in their path. its not funny. its definitely not a joke.
I mean look at us as a people, every where we go now we drag a ton of steel with us (its called a car).
there's no stopping it, but we can all slow it down. turn something off that ur not using right now. (printer, charger, lights) every bit adds up.

Even the permafrosts are starting to melt!
Ever wonder how they got the name permafrost??????

Matt,

I have the upmost respect for you my friend, but on Global Warming you are wrong. Go read Senator Jim Inhofe report on the issue.

Thanks

I'm 'wrong'?? just like that?

you prefer to believe one politician over 300 scientists from an international independent co-operative study???

here's what CBS news says about your Mr Know it All Senator Inhofe:

"Let's take one more glance at the way Inhofe abuses climate science. In his latest speech, Inhofe took aim at a recently released report from the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, produced by some 300 scientists working under the auspices of the Arctic Council (an intergovernmental group that includes the United States). The report shows that human-caused climate change has already had a pronounced effect in the Arctic region, where average temperatures have shot up "at almost twice the rate as the rest of the world in the past few decades." "

look up online what ostriches do when confronted with trouble.
thats what I'm seeing if you subscribe to this guy.

Matt how's that little pencil eraser dick of yours? I thought so...So shut the hell up because you sound like a complete moron. Illegals have cost this country millions so if they have to pay a fee hike who the hell cares? They've been wasting milions of tax payer dollars. Oh I forgot you're also an illegal.

Dowd, the only thing that your fearless leader (Al Gore, inventor of the internet and camcorder on successive nights) will need for global warming to reverse its cycle and go into global cooling is a couple of volcanic eruptions. Sunlight doesn't penetrate atmospheric volcanic ash, and you'd be amazed at just how fast the ice caps would expand!

Do you think that shorter growing seasons for crops would be beneficial to the world's population? Is the word "famine" merely a myth, and the phrase "Middle Ages" a fairy tale?
