L.A. Times Invents "Ostrich Journalism"

Here's the headline from the L.A. Times article: "Candidates campaign on an issue they can't affect -- immigration."

The article is about the campaign for positions on the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The implication, therefore, is that county supervisors cannot affect immigration. Yeah, right. And there's no such thing as "sanctuary cities," and screening inmates in county jails can't possibly turn up any illegal aliens.

So the Times has now added a new form of "journalism" to its now infamous "press release journalism:" now we have "ostrich journalism."

Actually, it's not really new at all, is it? It's just propaganda, to dupe you stupid voters into buying and repeating the mantra, "Immigration is a FEDERAL issue. Immigration is a FEDERAL issue. Immigration is a FEDERAL issue."

What makes this somewhat funny is that, in the same edition of the paper, a different article showed how, as a result of a 3-to-2 vote by L.A. County Supervisors, a program to identify illegal aliens in the County Jail has already turned up around 5,800 illegals out of around 9000 interviewed. But remember: county supervisors cannot affect immigration, because it's a FEDERAL issue.

Add to this they will start taking DNA from illegals who are arrested. Its about time they start putting the gauntlet to these criminals.

FYI, I removed two comments that had nothing to do with this thread, and were instead essentially an advertisement.

Walter, I would like to know just how the Times arrived at their conclusion. Are they stupid enough to think that we residents spend city-printed currency with the words "UNITED STATES OF LOS ANGELES"? They should remember that the currency and coinage they spend are FEDERALly ISSUEd (upper- and lower-cases my emphasis)... and that's another FEDERAL ISSUE worth speaking about.

It is a Federal issue Walter. If the Feds truly wanted to, they could seal our border and prosecute every last employer who hire illegal immigrants. Then the jobless illegal immigrants would have no choice but to return to their native countries. The Feds have the power to this, hell, we are occupying a country thousands of miles away!

BTW, did those "advertisements" speak about how much you suck? Will my "advertisement" also be deleted?

Wow. That's the high-level policy analysis we've come to expect from you staffers. Confronted with the facts -- i.e., programs that identify illegal aliens in jail -- you present the kind of incisive reasoning rarely seen outside a doctoral dissertation, by anonymously writing: i) "you suck"; and ii) "it's a federal problem."

You may want to stick to your coloring books and leave the thinking to others. It's not your strong suit, Sparky. But you have made one wise choice: remaining anonymous.
