Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday
We're hearing chatter that longtime Richard Alarcon aide Manny Figueras is allegedly telling folks that the Senator turned Assemblyman turned LA City Council candidate has not re-hired San Fernando Mayor Nury Martinez to serve on his new staff. Our tipster seems a bit gleeful that Martinez and her husband - activist Gerry Guzman - are now both without work and will have to scramble to keep up the mortgage payments on their home. To add insult to injury we're told that Martinez has yet to file for re-election to the San Fernando City Council and wonders if her re-filing is pending finding a job to list on her ballot designation. If anyone can shed more light on this we'd be glad to hear.
Living wage wackos are planning a seven day fast in a tent city despite the fact their bought and paid for anti-business City Council gave them what they wanted. Why? Because the wackos are fearful that business groups may be succesful in convincing the public that this socialist scheme is bad for the city in an upcoming proposed referendum.
Mayor V is off on another trip again. This time he'll travel to the Owens Valley to make nice for all the years the DWP has taken water from land we own there. They're going to water the grass while they're there I hear.
Martini Republic's Scribes finds that the only really interesting thing in town these days is that Zuma Dogg got his laptop out of hock. Not even efforts by the Westside White Guy to tell us who is important and who is not in LA pique the Scribe's curiousity. (By the way, Google Westside White Guy and see what the first result you get is. Funny.)
And finally, boy did we start something. Dubbing Silver Lake's Mack Reed - editor of the local fish cover LA Voice (the low rent way to (LA)Observe things around town) - the Eastside White Guy has got LA City Nerd going on where exactly is the Westside and the Eastside anyway.

Which Council district is about to get the nicest damn "Wellness Center" in the country, complete with medical marijauna dispensary, massage, chiropractic, kinesiology, organic garden, on-site counciling, growers co-op, and did i say; medical marijuana dispensary.
So not just some little hole in the wall selling medical marijuana, but a complete "wellness" destination I'm sure all the Hollywood "A" listers would love to check out for the day.
Only problem, I don't think ZD is supposed to know about the alleged dispensary, because when I called the Councilmember's office to ask when the big grand opening was, I was told no one knew about anything like that. Then it hit me, "Oh yeah! These Medical Marijuana Dispensaries (allowed under State law) are un-regulated and any John Doe who can find a landlord to rent space to them, can open one up. And this sounds like a real jewel for the City and County of Los Angeles.

Well, how many mistakes can Alarcon make? First he lies to Cindy or shall I say misleads her into believing they are swapping seats. Then he fires most of his staff.
Why would he get rid of Nury? Or Alvin? Not Manny?
He's just making friends everywhere. I'm not sure where though.. well he did get two PRO letters in the Daily News.
I guess that's something. TWO letters.
Bwaahaha....

Why would your tipster be so elated about Nury losing her job? That's pretty fucked up. I think she's really good so I hope his opposition snatches her up and uses her against him.
Richard is full of himself.
Anonymous said:
Isn't Nury part of the Montanez cadre in San Fernando? That would pretty much explain Alarcon getting rid of her at this juncture.
Anonymous said:
If I'm not mistakes, Nury's husband worked for Padilla and is working for Felipe Fuentes, so it wouldn't be a good idea to hire the wife of the opposition's campaign staff.

TODAY'S LA DAILY NEWS
New and fresh ideas
Re: "It's the system" (Your Opinions, Dec. 4):
I have to agree with Frank Jacobs about the system, but I have to disagree with him about Alex Padilla as a city councilman. Padilla's office has always responded when I have contacted or visited the office in Pacoima, and Pacoima has come a long way since he has been in office.
I have always supported Richard Alarcon, and we elected him to the state Assembly, and he should do the job that he was elected to do and stop this flip-flopping. It is time now for someone else to be the City Council member for this area. I think that Cindy Montanez will make a good councilwoman, and I think that she has done a great job in the state Assembly. We need new and fresh ideas for this area.

Re: "Political musical chairs" (Our Opinions, Nov. 27):
You put everything into perspective for Pacoima, Sun Valley, Arleta, San Fernando and Sylmar. Because of Richard Alarcón's selfishness and inflated ego, one of the most poverty-stricken districts in California will be left with zilch representation in the state Assembly.
Alarcón, thanks for placing the Northeast Valley so "high" on your list of priorities and solving the issue of poverty for us. Not.

Re: "Alarcón to seek old seat on City Council" (Nov. 22):
The title should be "Alarcón to seek a pay raise and a city pension." There is no public service in self-serving greed and that is what you see in most elected officials nowadays; a good example is the recently "voters"-approved Measure R.
Once again our illustrious, respectful and experienced elected officials with the help of special-interest groups managed to deceive the voters in Los Angeles. Sadly enough, we all share their self-serving failure, some by not taking the time to vote and some by voting to keep them in office. Is L.A. willing to take a chance on less experienced community-oriented candidates or is it that much fun to constantly complain to the deaf ears of the City Council? I guess we will find out in March.

......AND EVEN MORE
Slap them twice
Re: "Election could be major rerun" (Viewpoint, Nov. 19):
How could L.A. voters be so ----- to pass Measure R? Whatever the answer, they can take full credit for the shameful and despicable plan Richard Alarcón has for a rerun for councilman in District 7. His plan of action shows no respect for the voters who elected him to fill the Assembly seat this past election.
I hope the voters won't turn the other cheek, by making it possible for him to return to District 7. He doesn't deserve the opportunity to slap them twice. Nor did he leave our community with good memories of positive contributions. Is this the type of character, one with no integrity, we want as a leader of our community?

word on the street is that Cindy is picking up Nury to once again help out with her campaign. In return, she will help Nury run for school board or state assembly if Alarcon's re-call is successful. I guess Padilla should have given Gerry a real job on staff and not just used him to get into the senate.
Anonymous said:
1:38 am
The rumor mill has it that the Padilla clan, which I would now consider the opposition, didn't even give any consideration to hiring her for the Senate offices. Fuentes already contributes to half of her household income by employing Gerry Guzman. From what I gather she is not as good as you may think if she's bee passed up by all her so called allies.
I think it would be a far cry to expect Montanez to hire her. Too much bad blood over there.
and the only other candidate which I see mention is a Rodrigues who I doubt has any money to pay for a full time staff member.
I think the supervisor would be hurting himself if he hired her and so would the congressman. Korenstein does not like her much because Nury supported AB 1381.
Now 1:38 explain to us who you think might be left to "snatch her up"?
Anonymous said:
Nury is not smart enough to forget the past and join Cindy... She worked hard to make sure Alex defeated Cindy in SD20. Cindy is not desperate enought to forget that and bring Nury to her current campaign. Nury and her Husband have no Loyolty, but to themselves and their daddy Xavier Flores.
We'll just have to wait and see if Xavier lets Nury even think about helping Cindy. She has made far too many enemies in recent years... She has few choices now a days...

Stop making this stuff up.
Also you may not know this but Nury despises Cindy's sister who is a councilmember in San Fernando.
The sister is a good campaigner and has the ability to deliver the votes.
I ask you, would you compromise family who has a proven track record?
Anonymous said:
And then comes one more candidate to CD 7. A local business owner by the name of Oscar Mendoza. Nury may want to knock on his door. He's rummored to have some serious cash, maybe he can hire a fulltime staffer...
Anonymous said:
Can someone tell me who Oscar Mendoza is? and is he really running for CD 7. Someone really is out to make sure Cindy doesn't win CD 7.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (opens up car door and walks across tarmac at Whiteman):
There's nothing like a little bad blood to start one's morning off, is there? As for Mr. Padilla, the chance to be done with him came and went. Now that Mr. Padilla has gone on to the State Senate, there is that void left behind. Had Mr. Padilla not made it to the Senate, there would not be all this huzzah, savvy?
Where is Mr. Dogg when we need him? Zuma lad, are you going to throw your bowler in the ring or not? A bowler amidst hoods and pillboxes, such a sight to see.
Many a family has been compromised. Politics does that to even the best of families. Just ask Villabarbosa.

Well well well, seems the city is being flooded with lawsuits from employees. They've increased since last year and who's to blame?
....it's tempting to drag former mayor Jim Hahn out again for one more boot in the backside over his light-handed management of the city's departments, but Councilman Bernard Parks and another pundit seem to think the real culprit is a cultural shift. It's not only okay to complain, it's imperative to sue the city when you think you've been wronged by it:

Seems like Nury and her husband are becoming the Alvin Parra and Nellie Reyes (his wife) of the San Fernando Valley - "DOH!". This is what happens when loyalty and inetgrity are tossed out the window for personal political gain.
It may be twenty years in the making, but it seems like the Valley is going to get a good taste of old fashioned, go for the jugular East L.A. campaigning. It was just a matter of time. As soon as an old guard gets established, a new generation tries to topple it. I guess Richard Alarcon is now the Antonio Villaraigosa of the valley - keeping younger, more talented and more committed Latinos down.

Just a note - EAA is expected to again strike at the Harbor when five cruise ships are expected to upload their passagers and garner support from the Longshoremen, however the accountants and engineers may find themselves in a fight.
When they pulled a two-day strike two weeks ago at the harbor, EAA enjoyed support from the Longshoremen at Pacific Maritimean. On the second day an arbitrator called a meeting to see what sanctions EAA had. The Longshoremen's union showed but EAA blew off the meeting. This upset the Longshoremen's Local and with another strike looming it's unlikely EAA will be welcomed with any sympathy.
Bob Aquino isn't likely to be on-hand for the face off and the Longshoremen are not pushovers, so be prepared for the worse.
Additionally, an investigation is presently underway concerning assault and battery charges against two EAA members as a result of an incident at Hyperion Treatment Plant. Two EAA members restrained and assaulted a fellow worker witnessed by others. Once the facts are vetted, charges will be preferred and administrative action will be taken to have the two discharged.

OK FOLKS LISTEN UP. HOW DUMB IS LISA SARNO AND HER CAST OF MORONS AS NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL COMMISSIONERS?????
So dumb they scheduled a BONC (Board of Neighborhood Commissioners) IN THE COUNTY. Yup, the county at Belverde school. NOw, idiot Lisa Sarno not only was the field staffer for Antonio as councilman but this moron had to have known less then 1 mile from their offices is the COUNTY. HELL EVERYONE KNOWS THAT BUT LISA. Here's their lame ass letter. Have a good laugh and she has the nerve to give a report on NC's.
To: Neighborhood Council Leaders
From: Department of Neighborhood Empowerment
Subject: Message from BONC President
It is with sincere regret and apologies that the BONC meeting last night was canceled. There was an unfortunate circumstance that was not discovered until a few hours before the meeting. Both the City and LAUSD boundary maps were originally utilized to determine whether or not the location was within LA City limits. We have now discovered that both these entities need to revise their maps to reflect accurate information.
I want to know WHY ON THIS SIDE OF TOWN INSTEAD OF A MROE CENTRAL PLACE??????

Nury will run for Julie Korenstein's seat but she will be faced with stiff competitiion from Monica Rodriguez. However, I hear that Cindy Montanez's sister may take the seat. If that happens both Nury and Monica can kiss their dreams goodbye.
If they all lost a bit of weight...Maribel about 15 pounds, Nury about 50 pounds and Monica about 20 it might actually turn out to be the race of the hotties.
Anonymous said:
5:31,
The Pacoima Princess likes to start her sob story with this spiel about how she's a product of LAUSD schools and how she's not proud of that fact (that she's mayor of a small city at age 30 apparently isn't much of an accomplishment). If she's looking at a stint at school board, she'd be looking to take a shot Julie Korenstein's seat when she comes up in a couple years.

Monica Rodriguez is a class act.
Anonymous said:
Which class is she acting on behalf of today?
You know is she...
1- spewing the speil about building affordable housing for the poor...or
2- were you at the realtor meeting where she was acting as the pro business candidate telling us about all the for-sale development she's making happen over there in the Northeast so we can all make some nice profits off the sale and the "creative financing"...or
3- was she acting like she had the dough to bank roll her own election?
Problems:
1- Has anyone seen the crap Padilla and the so-called "planners" dumped out in CD 7? All of it was granted certain architectural and variance leeways because of its affordability. In the end no smart, not affordable...
2- don't support those ideas because you think your gonna make some money off of this stuff at the front end. All developers come with their built in realtors and I doubt your one of them. Plus if she carries out 1 there'll be no profit for 2
3- Doubtful...
Finally, I don't like acts because the actor is always reading from a script written by someone else.

Can anyone tell me who has officially filed papers to run for CD 7 or is it too early to tell.
Anonymous said:
lazy - google around and you'll find the the filing deadline date. then ask the question when it's more appropos
Anonymous said:
I'll do the work for you, since it's not real work if you know the answers which the last poster probably didn't.
Cindy Montanez - should-be winner of CD 7. can do the best job of any other candidate.
Richard Alarcon - the former councilman who is the first scum so far to use measure R to his advantage. although he ran for assembly for Montanez's seat, he doesn't care because he wants the money and power that come with being a councilman. he led Montanez to believe he would endorse her for CD 7 after Padilla won the Senate seat. that's just not trustworthy on his part.
Felipe Fuentes - former Hahn deputy mayor who quit and went to work for Padilla because he was planning ahead to run for the CD 7 seat. Fortunately, he has no name recognition and Padilla hasn't done enough in the district to help Fuentes win unless he gives him money instead. the only reason Padilla beat Montanez was more money and most people don't like where that money comes from yet they're still dumb enough to vote for the name recognition. look for fuentes to be all over the area now. he is out every day on the campaign trail so everyone knows who he is. They still forget.
Oscar Mendoza-nothing to say. nice kid. works for his family roofing business. republican disguised as a democrat. ran for a seat in Sylmar for secession. Not too politically savvy. Nice, but no chance.
Monica Rodriquez or something like that - nobody I know has ever heard of this woman. one like that can't beat the name recognition of Alarcon or Montanez.
Anonymous said:
Does Fuentes have an anger management problem? I recall a citizen's arrest.
Anonymous said:
2;41 am - you did not answer the question.
Even though he claims I didn't know the answer I do and probably better than I should.
Since most of you are City of LA employees or employees of electeds, your laziness does not surprise me nor does your incompetence to educate yourself.
So here's the answer from the lay person:
Dec. 9th
If you want to "pull papers you could do so beginning tomorrow Dec 9th. (Shock!)
Okay breathe...the city clerks office will be open from 8am - noon.
Dec. 14
Deadline to file your intent to run.
Dec. 28th
Deadline to file your nomination papers.
Got it?
Anonymous said:
"Had Enough"! That should be a campaign slogan for anyone seeking to run again Montanez, Alarcon, and Fuentes, and for that matter Cardenas and Padilla. Sure their personalities and politics vary, but they have done nothing more than let redevelopers prostitute open space for profit. The NorthEast Valley looks like sh*t.
Anonymous said:
Correction:
CD 7 looks like sh*t. San Fernando is a jewel.
Anonymous said:
1:01pm, you are right. San Fernando looks like a country club in comparison with its surrounding neighbors. I'd much rather live in that city than in Sylmar or Pacoima regardless of how petty its politics appear.
Anonymous said:
I hear Cindy Montanez is the reason that city has done so well. If she is responsible for what is happening San Fernando she needs to be the councilmember in CD 7 and the voters in CD 7 should vote for her. You think they are smart enough down there or are they like the voters over here in CD 14.
Anonymous said:
I don't know if I'd go that far to say Cindy Montanez is the reason why the City of San Fernando has done so well, but nevertheless she was a very involved council member and took an active interest in revitalizing the community, trying to attract decent businesses and trying to improve the overall image of the area.
I think she'd be a great council member for CD 7, although I'd suggest scrapping her staff, starting with Veres.
