Take Me Out To The Ball Game (And Don't Forget My Event Waiver)

Zuma Dogg has spoken ad nauseum about the abuse of "special event waivers" by the City Clowncil. We found one on Wednesday's City Council Agenda that takes the cake.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were knocked out of any further post-season competition by a bruised and broken New York Mets. You think that puts them in the poverty category in the Clowncil's view:
MOTION (REYES - GARCETTI) relative to declaring the Dodgers Post Season Schedule a Special Event (fees and costs absorbed by the City = $7,000).

Recommendation for Council action:
DECLARE the Dodgers Post Season Schedule, hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, a "Special Event" and INSTRUCT the involved City departments to perform such services as detailed in the Motion, including the waiver of all fees (costs absorbed by the City) and requirements, except insurance.
Apparently the Dodgers can't pony up a measly $7000 to pay fees associated with their post-season play. Despite the fact that Forbes rates the team's value at nearly $500 million, with operating income of over $13 million during the 2005 season.

Not that it will do any good, but if you wish to contact your local Clowncil member and let them know that we will not stand for such corporate welfare, feel free to do so. We've provided contact information for you at Mayor Sam 2.

What about all the sales tax revenue that the Dodgers generate for the City? So what if Clowncilmember show them a little love, considering what the team contributes to the local economy?

Excuse me but the FANS contribute a hell of a lot more and the Dodgers were rated top of all baseball teams for having consistent attendance of 50,000. These same fans are tax payers.

How about the thousands of other businesses in LA that generate sales tax and contribute to the economy? Do they all get waivers too?

Maybe if the Dodgers won, it would be a different story.

But seriously, why do politicians LOVE to give tax dollars to millionaire athletes and billionaire sports team owners?

It would be interesting to find out how many comp tickets Eric and Ed got this season?

While you mentioned the comp tickets...maybe Mayor Sam should be asking how many comp tickets and business deals the Clowncil President gets from Hollywood, especially his field deputies for Hollywood. I'm sure that is why all the Hollywood assholes get special attention from the Clowncilmember.

Zuma Dogg...can you do some research and expose this.

$7,000 dollors is too much for the McCOURTS to cough up for Public Services? T.J. Simers would love to comment on this. BTW, the Dodgers sold more that the 56,000 tickets allowed by the City. someone needs to investigate this.

How is it that the trash fees had to be created because there was NO more money to give to the LAPD to increase their numbers (AND IT WAS A "PRIORITY"), but the council never is stumped in finding ways to spend money, splashing it around generously and needlessly, and always finding the money to do this, as well?

Didn't someone (Mayor v) accuse the howmeowners of being "subsidized" by the city on the trash collection? I think that was really just an example of the city providing efficient services to city residents. We should expect efficiency. [It doesn't happen, but we should "expect" it.]

They find so many ways to relieve us of money and and then they spend it so freely so as to have others beholden to them. wow.
