COMING SOON - CJ's Endorsements

It's that time of year where we here at the Sister City give our final calls on local elections.

My rationale behind endorsing any candidate is simple;

Does this candidate reflect the views and concerns of the district in which they seek to be elected, or rather their own?

Has the candidate run a clean campaign consistently through the primary and general election?

Has the candidate provided a clear vision for the district?

Does the candidate demonstrate that they have the ability to lead, and fight for, the district which would elect them?

Over the next week these questions will be answered as I provide endorsements to the following races:

State Assembly District 37 -- Friday, October 27th
State Assembly District 38 -- Monday, October 30th
State Assembly District 39 -- Tuesday, October 31st
State Assembly District 40 -- Wednesday, November 1st

US Congress District 27 -- Thursday, November 2nd
US Congress District 28 -- Friday, November 3rd

Propositions – Friday, November 3rd

Roundup – Monday November 6th

This is going to be fun!

OK, I'll ask: Why would anyone care about anonymous endorsements?

CJ - we would like to see your endorsements for State Assembly Districts 42, 43, 45, 47 and 49 as well. How about some of the State Senate candidates? I'm on the fence and need some suggestions! There's a 3rd party candidate in my district and I want to know how they stack up aginst the other two.

Dude,

Excellent crieria for your rationale behind endorsing any candidate.

I'm gonna steal it and use it for my City Council campaign speeches. I hope that isn't un-ethical!?!?

Good evening Honorable Councilman (removes hat and bows low with flourish):

I would like to add my sixpence and 3 shillings to your proposed endorsements if I may. Using your criteria as well as my own observations I make the following recommendations for endorsements.

Both ladies in AD37 are fair and bonnie, but Ms. Strickland voted against AB1381. The pirate endorses Ms. Strickland. She has been gracious to our crew when we were stranded at the Capitol.

The Pirate endorses Ms. Christensen as she is an underdog with fine intentions and is braw to take on the established parties. Both Mr. Smyth and Ms. Shaw have the party machine behind them.

Mr. Alarcon does not have the Pirate's endorsement as he voted for AB1381 and is close to the sots in City Hall.

I have observed Mr. Montaine and found him to be quite clever, sort of like Scotty was to Captain Kirk which you have to be if you live in the Valley, savvy? The Pirate endorses Mr Montaine as Mr. Levine supported AB1381; we could use a rocket scientist in Sacramento.

I recall Mr. Feuer from his earlier political days, and care not for him as he too is too close to the sots in City Hall. Mr. Goldman shows promise and we look forward to great things from him. However, I have had the occasion to hear Mr. Sion speak and feel his honesty and integrity are far superior to the other two candidates. The Pirate endorses Mr. Sion for his willingness to work with Ms. Allen-Newman on gay-lesbian issues and Not Prop R.

I attended a party in which I heard Mr. Krikorian speak, and most eloquently he did. The other two were either angry or dull witted. The Pirate endorses Mr. Krikorian. It should be noted that the Pirate also recognizes that should Mr. Krikorian be elected, he will be the first Armenian to be elected to the California State Assembly. That's one the damn Barbary pirates must look sharp for!

I have made my thoughts about Mr. DeLeon clear in that he reeks of filthy lucre and openly suppored Villabarbosa's AB1381. Ms. Allen-Newman is honest, sincere and like Ms. Christensen is the underdog in this race. The Pirate endorses Ms. Allen-Newman not because of her service to her neighborhood council, but because Ms. Allen-Newman has made an effort to help Not Prop R.

If there is a write in for AD-46, I would endorse it. I would endorse Jim Alger's infant son if he chose to run against Smee Nunez. Bugger the candidate for AD-46. I would rather vote for the rats in the bilge than Smee Nunez.

Mr. Dodge makes good points, but so does Ms. Bass. One is either all the way to the left or all the way to the right. It does not make for an even keel. No endorsement here. However Mr. Dodge does have the artist's touch and our sincere good wishes. The crew cherishes its licorice pizza.

Mr. Eng's wife is too close to the City Hall sots to suit us, and this is a case of musical chairs. Ms. Siegrest has a noble heart and not spoiled by special interests. Ms. Brown is an underdog with some views we like and some we do not. The Pirate endorses both Ms. Siegrest and Ms. Brown. Ms. Siegrest is concerned about the Southwest Museum, and that gives her points with us.

And then there is Mr. Cedillo. We have observed Mr. Ten in his tenure as alderman, and think he has the chops to take on Sacramento. Mr. Cedillo has had his opportunities and has not used them to further the best interests of the community. The Pirate endorses Mr. Ten.

Mr. Hankwitz gets the Pirate endorsement for showing up to a one-sided debate and not leaving until the fat lady sang. Good form Mr. Hankwitz!

No endorsement for Congressional District 28. None of the candidates wanted to go drinking with us.

You should note that our endorsement process is similar to yours, however, we take photographs and affix them to butts on the stern. We discuss the merits of each candidate, blindfold the cook and the bowsun and have them shoot point blank at 10 paces. Depending upon how close to the face the shot is, that is factored in as an on-dit with the other. The result is the endorsement that I make on behalf of the crew.

CEDILLO, NUNEZ, DELEON, CEDILLO, ROMERO AND ONE CITY HALL SOT TO BE NOMINATED BY HIS/HER PEERS WALKS THE PLANK IN NOVEMBER. The rest walk in March.

Oh, and by the by Councilman John, we thank you for your posts, and urge you to keep up the good work.

I will lay odds you endorse Smythe in the 38th. Despite his money from Philip Morris, Newhall Land and Farming ,Chevron, Mobile/Exxon Tejon Ranch, Major Pharma, Walmart and just about every repugnent source out there.
And who cares about a dead republican's endorsement unless it is dead presidents in quanity.

(Removes hat, kneels to one knee)
I am honored with your endorsement.
If successful, I will also be honored to serve the people of Los Angeles.

A servant to the people, not special interests.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen (bows low and removes hat): Mr. Ten, get up off your knees and get out there, man! Where are your signs?

As for my blunder with Mr. Krikorian, blame it on the rum. Bloody hell, and I thought I was drinking me mum's punch.

The Pirate also endorses the Twin Dragons should we still be able to vote for school board.
