Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
Its fee waiver time again! Item #16 on the City Council's agenda for Friday is a motion by Councilwoman Jan Perry to declare a good old fashioned praise the Lord tent revival a special event and waive all city fees for such a spectacle. The beneficiariy of this generous gesture is the Victory Temple Apostolic Outreach. Now, this old, dead Republican Mayor loves the Lord and thinks that we could use a whole lot more Jesus and a lot less rock and roll these days. However, its a bit of a concern to waive the fees for a definitively religous event when other public displays of faith have been outlawed as well as the City Attorney not allowing Neighborhood Councils to fund projects on church property. Where's the ACLU on this one?
West LA blogs a Westside Rentals report on ever rising rents in Los Angeles. Average rent on the Westside is just south of $2K a month and have increased half a percent in the last two months alone.
Movement towards a connection between the Metro Red Line in North Hollywood and Metro Gold Line in Pasadena could be happening. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors has approved a $150,000 study to consider options to route this connection through Burbank and Glendale. This is on top of a previous $30,000 committment each from the cities of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena.
At Friday's City Council meeting at Van Nuys City Hall, Mayor Villaraigosa and the Los Angeles City Council will honor Guy Gabaldon for his heroism on the Island of Saipan during World War II. We could use more heroes like Guy.

Guy Gabaldon is a racist cunt. Sure he was brave, but no one who thinks that "Japs are the stupidest humans" should be getting honored.

What DID happen? All of a sudden if they don't like the responses here, like in the Hooters thread, they just remove all the comments.
Why do you do that?

Hi kids. I know that some people have said on this blog that all I have done since becoming mayor of this great city is to make appearances at various conventions, parades and high-profile national meetings. In response to these accusations, I would like to point out that I also had several potholes in this great city filled, and I am excited about future pothole-filling activities that I plan to engage in.
Looking forward to your continued support,
Antonio R. Villaraigosa

Parents should always try and keep their children from making the same mistakes they did.
SO, don't EVER take the BAR EXAM!

If you want to point out abuse of the special event waivers let's look at Jose Huizar.
Fiesta Broadway, sponsored by All Access Entertainment, Inc. and McDonalds in cooperation with the City of Los Angeles, is one of the most successful outdoor entertainment events in the City.
ITEM NO. (30) - 03-0566 (CD1,CD9,CD14) Motion (Huizar - Reyes) relative to declaring Fiesta Broadway on April 30, 2006 a Special Event (estimated cost of the event $209,951of which fees and costs absorbed by the City

hey . MAyor Sam . Thanks for the heads up on the Medal of Honor nominee being recognized in City Council Today.
It was a beautiful ceremony.
this guy deserves his Medal Of Honor.
Lewis B. Chesty Puller had 5 navy crosses from The War in the Pacific and he wasn't able to trade those in for a Medal of Honor. This man today has us all pulling for him to get his due. And it seesm that he will.
The thing is that MArines are expected to do those heroic deeds . And very humbly I might add. Always saying they are happy with the medals and the awards they are given after combat , knowing there was always someone who deserved the medals and recognition more than they do. Justt like the fellow today. HE said he had a friend who was killed in the PAcific saving him and others and said he would like to see his buddy receive the medal of Honor post humously .
These indeed are true heroes.
It was nice to see this , ANtonio , Jose , Ed , and Eric GArcetti , standing there with him and recognizing the deeds of our latino heroes.
We should recognize our heroes in the latino community.
You know I have a poster signed by Jose HUizar hanging on my wall . He is standing with Antonio Villaraigosa . Although I voted for the other guy and could not vote for Jose Huizar , I have this poster over my computer and it for some reson inspires me. KNowing the differences in the history of Texas and California. I know that it took a lot of work for latinos and ethnic minorities to rise to the pronminence that they are now .
With uncles working in the Texas supreme Court , 2nd cousins Mayors of Municpialites , justices of the peace ,sherrifs , school board superintendants , war verterans, I always had role models to look up to.
Here in California because of the way history happened and after the war with mexico , many spanish land grants were considered invalid . A lot of the mixed races , had a very hard time coming up.
So it is good to see that Antonio and the City Council are recognizing the achievements of LAtinos .

You have a good heart Don but please the only reasons these guys do ANYTHING is because they know the cameras are there. I'm glad there are many Latinos who served in the military. I don't think of those guys standing with that hero served.
