Open Thread for Tuesday

Gloria Romero is a member of the California State Senate, and is Majority Leader in that body. She is a member of the Democratic Party and represents the 24th State Senate district (east Los Angeles). She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and an A.A. and B.A. from Barstow Community College and California State University, Long Beach, respectively.

In April, 2006, Romero gained particular notoriety for co-authoring, with State Senator Gil Cedillo, a resolution presented to the State Senate that called for official recognition and endorsement of the boycott of American businesses planned for May 1, 2006 by advocates of illegal immigration. The stated aim of the resolution was to educate Americans "about the tremendous contribution immigrants make on a daily basis to our society and economy." Critics of the resolution stated that the boycott did not concern immigrants per se, but almost exclusively illegal immigrants and their supporters. Appearing on CNN in an interview soon after the resolution was introduced, Romero defended her support of the boycott, saying "As a senator, I represent citizens and non-citizens alike." The resolution was passed on April 27.

This is proof what an idiot Romero is. "As a senator I represent citizens and non-citizens alike."

Can she really be this dumb? Doesn't she know that it was the legal citizens who voted her into office? She is another one on the list for a backlash. She also told the students to walkout which made them truant. How irresponsible of her! I want to know why she had press conferences out of her district and in another Congresswoman's area when announcing the boycott. Why didn't she have the press conf. in her own area?

To all those who have little or no knowledge of how our government works, representation is for the poeple, by the poeple and of the people. When laws are passed and legislators decide on bills, they take into account ALL members of the community, right. according to the comment of legal citizens voted her in office, we should only have laws made for people that vote, what ever happened to laws for our children, especially those that were born here and are legal, opps your arguement carries quite a fallacy and therefor is illogical, your syllogysm is weak, I guess your the one that is dumb. perhaps that is why you do not run for office, either your too stupid or do not have the cojones to do so. que viva la mujer latina!

...one of my daily pleasures is browsing through these comments to discover just how myopic, mean-spirited, and down right ignorant white conservatives can be! Thank you 9:02 and 10:57 for reminding me why I persevered and received my gradudate degree, while all along the way people like you two thought all I was good for was cleaning your toilets!

A judge said Monday he is likely to prohibit the state from requiring that high school seniors pass an exit exam to graduate, siding with attorneys who say the test discriminates against the poor.

A group of high school students and their parents sued the state Department of Education in February, seeking a preliminary injunction to halt giving the exam to this year's senior class. It's the first class required to pass the exam to earn a diploma.

Can we all say "Affirmative Action." All these Latino politicans have no class. Just look how they dress, behave, and even speak. Interesting the educated Latinos in their communities are the ones who point this out and all agree they use their own people for personal agendas. I wish Mayor Sam would post that mailer David Sanchez had with all the Latino politicans pointing out they haven't done anything for Latinos and their communites are the worst in the city. Molina, Nunez, Cedillo, Roybal Allard, Romero, Solis, Sanchez, Baca, Antonio, Becerra, and the list goes on.

Romero's socialist/communist past is well documented. I give her credit for not waffling on her principles, like the Mayor has done. But all these "leaders" were once part of the same clique. In fact, the organization were they all met was called, Sin Fronteras - without borders. Antonio Villaraigosa was working with this organization under his mentor - Antonio Rodriguez. Antonio Rodriguez was one of Romero's ex-sack mates. And Rodriguez' brother, Javier - the one that came out on CNN suporting the marches, was once Villariagosa's brother in-law. That is until Javier beat the shit out of his sister and she divorced him.

That's the Latino leader MO - transfer elected offices between each other, just like they transfer their women.

3:42pm It amazes me the inside look people can get into these politican's lives from people who have been around the block with them. Has anyone ever thought of writing a book on all this stuff? This is info the media would never know. What I don't understand about politics is how these people backstab, bad mouth, sabotage each other after standing on a podium telling everyone how great they think the other is. They turn on each other at the drop of a dime. No loyalty whatsoever even within their own camps.

I have to hand it to you people who feel Latino politicians are out of their mind. I hate to agree with you.

These politicians are misguided. When are they going to see the reason why our people come here in hordes? The more we pander here in this country the more we delay a Revolution in Mexico.

How can you love Mexico and not see the BS in Mexico and not even care. Vicente Fox laughs at us Mexicans here. I bet you the next Mexican Presidente will do the same and keep on fucking our people at home. These elite Mexicans do not give a damn about the indigenous and poor.

Do you know we have the economic and political strength to help reform Mexico? Do you know that Mexico's middle class lives here? A revolution can exists when the Middle-class rises up against the Upper Class.

Stop being ignorant, our problems are in Mexico.

When every elected official swears into office they swear to uphold the US Constitution. That means to uphold the laws of the nation. There is no clause or exemption that says you can't help those who can't vote, but you can't choose which laws you want to enforce and those you don't. If you think the laws are wrong change them. There is a process for that. Just like there is a process to legally immigrate to the country. But don't ignore the laws and then complain when they are enforced. Everyone cheers the champion who worked hard and overcame the odds and still won, everyone shows no respect for cheaters.

I don't understand if LA has an illegal immigration problem for about a decade and all these idiot Latino politicans like Bimbo Romero knew about it why the hell haven't they done anything about it to help them?????????????

Just because the issue came up in the Senate did any of the Latino politicans begin to speak out. Again showing their arrogance and wanting to take the spotlight not for their people but for themselves. Next time anyone sees one of these idiots at a meeting ask them why has it taken them so long to speak out in support of their people? Why didn't they encourage them to apply for citizenship?
