Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

The popularity of Burbank's Bob Hope Airport has parking lots jammed, even with increased parking rates. The situation is getting so bad, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority has asked the City of LA if Burbank could run shuttles from the Van Nuys Park and Ride.

WeHoNews.com has a great blow by blow of a recent debate between Democratic 42nd Assembly District candidates Mike Feuer and Abbe Land. The debate managed to raise $15,000 for a local educational charity.

Martini Republic's Dr. Cocktail is back after a long hiatus, splitting his time between New Orleans and Las Vegas, where he was temporarily re-locating the Museum of the American Cocktail while its home in the Crescent City is repaired.

It was too be expected. The Transit Coalition reports that ever rising gas prices have pushed ridership figures for Metro bus and rail lines and Metrolink commuter rail lines to record numbers.

Mayor Villaraigosa, fresh back from a trip to DC, currently has no public events scheduled for Friday, hence no "Where's Antonio."

City of LA Meetings for Friday

8:00AM - Education & Neighborhoods Committee, Special Joint Meeting
10:00AM - Los Angeles City Council
1:00PM - Budget & Finance Committee, SPECIAL MEETINGS

And Laura Chick and Lloyd Levine were also there throwing their support to Cindy. Probably 250 people were there to see this.

Honestly, I don't think many voters in the NE SF Valley care about the Villaraigosa endorsement. It's not his name that is going to be an the ballot and if you talk to many residents in the area, Alex has a lot more name recognition than Montanez.

I beg to differ with you on the name recognition. Alex has been a City Councilman. Cindy was a San Fernando City Councilwoman, then the Mayor of San Fernando, then the Assemblymember of the district. I think that her name is out there.

That Hummer story is pathetic. Even worse if he's a transportation deputy mayor. He's probably one of those ex-Riordan employees that the LA Times was talking about Villaraigosa hiring.

Is there any truth to that?

So the people in the City of San Fernando know her...congrats. Its not like her people are even in power over there now...

Its not like Jerry's wife is the Mayor of S.F now

You are right to some extent. I think Alex has high name recognition going for him in the NE San Fernando Valley, more so than Cindy. This is not to say that Cindy is not known in those areas. Her base is primarily in the City of San Fernando, though.

The question is how both candidates will score with voters on the west side of the Valley.

SD 20 doesn't even cover the west side of the valley.

Cindy's Assembly District 39 goes west to the 405 freeway and south to approximately Vanowen St.

One chunk of Council District 7 goes south to Roscoe between Woodman and the 405 freeway. The rest of CD-07 to the east doesn't really go south of Devonshire.

So for all practical purposes Alex's CD-07 only covers about 32% of 39th Assembly District.

Now factor in that Senate District 20 goes west to Topanga Cyn. with a southern boundry of Vanowen / Victory.

For all practical purposes Cindy represents 50% of Senate District 20 and Alex represents about 20% of that district.

Now factor this in: Alex rarely ventures outside of Pacoima. Yes, his central campaign office is on Sepulveda. Look at all the wall art. 95% of the ribbon cuttings on the wall are for Pacoima events. The other is the Mission Police Station. He rarely ventures into Sylmar, San Fernando or Panorama City. In fact most of the neighborhood leaders know they can count on Alex to show up at an event long enough to get some photos and then he is off.

Cindy has a good rapport with the majority of the neighborhood folks and knows just as many in the west valley as the east. When she attends an event, she usually stays and talks to the crowds for at least 1 hour.

When asked about Alex, many people are aware of his "Pay to Play" requirements. Many know of his completely ineffectual constituent services and his disreguard of community sentiments.

Yes, Alex leads in fundraising. But, he hardly has any volunteers and his paid phone staff costs lots of money. Cindy has lots of volunteers filling her offices 7 days and nights per week.

Many think this will be a close race. From talking with a lot of folks in the West Valley and the South Valley, I would predict that Cindy gets 62% of the vote in the Primary to 38% for Alex. All should note that the same people who helped Jim Hahn get 39% of the vote are working the same failed strategy for Alex.

With Alex and Cindy giving public presentations in the north valley this week and next, there is likely to be a lot more word of mouth and people will be able to compare. We will see as the rubber meets the road.

I think you are wrong. Not everyone knows about Alex's "pay to play" ventures, and most voter's probably don't even know what the phrase means.

As for the true winner, we'll have to find out in early June.

So for all you Cindy and Alex bashers, give it a rest for while.

You are right. They are both in the north valley this week. I think the neighborhood councils are doing a debate between them this week.
