Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

Today we're debuting a new look for the blog. For some time I've wanted to go to a three column format and we've finally found one that works. We'll primarily place links on the left hand side and ads and other things on the right hand side. I wanted to add more space for links as well of course more space for more ads. This old, dead, Republican Mayor would like to make a few more sheckels off the blog, so why not?

Bad news for Alex Padilla. Mayor Villaraigosa has endorsed his primary opponent Cindy Montanez for the Democratic nomination for the 20th State Assembly District. The Mayor cited Montanez's "tenacity and stick-to-it-ness of her convictions" as his reason for endorsing the 39th District Assemblywoman.

Joe B. chronicles Mayor Villaraigosa's no show in Shadow Hills for the Mayor's big Sunday volunteer program. Joe wonders if the excuse given by the Mayor's staff (he was too busy with events in other areas and couldn't get everywhere) is the real story, or if it has more to do with the sponsorship of the event by Home Depot and Home Depot's attorneys, Latham and Watkins. Many in the foothills communites are fighting the opening of a Home Depot in nearby Sunland-Tujunga - and L&W is the attorney representing Home Depot on this very issue. While this old, dead Republican Mayor is all for the new Home Depot, the issue of pay-to-play is disconcerting.

Monday afternoon the Metropolitan Transit Agency will hold a budget workshop to discuss the agency's 2006-2007 budget. The MTA wants to increase overall spending to add more lines and more security.

Independent Sources is reporting that Sheriff Lee Baca would beat Mayor Villaraigosa. In a running race that is. The blog has compared finishing times for both men in recent 5 and 10K runs and found that the Sheriff comes out ahead. Perhaps they should have a head to head at the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund "Fight It! 5K Race-Walk" on the 21st.

Another endorsement for Jerry Brown. This time, its the San Francisco Chronicle. The paper of record in Bagdad-by-the-Bay assails challenger Rocky Delgadillo for even trying to rip Brown's liberal street cred.

Two tidbits for you over at Mayor Sam 2: Upcoming San Fernando Valley Democratic Party events and the agenda for the upcoming County Board of Supervisors meeting and budget session.

rocky - it's great that you're running on a big stage with real people looking at your record - and that you are being exposed for the fraud that you are.

LA Times endorses Brown. Rocky has big problems...not ready for the job...has spotty record.

LA TIMES SUCKS BIG TIME...I'm not reading anymore. They kiss Antonio's ass like the National Enquirer would. Can't belive they put his picture on the front page. They write the most puff piece stories on him. Big Sunday from inside gossiping was a huge failure. With 10 million in the city only 25,000 came out and people say that number is exaggerated.. They expected over 100,000 all over the city.

It's nice to know that Marc Haefele can be so easily hoodwinked. In his piece on Rocky, he bought Rocky's laugable comment that he practiced entertainment law for 5 years.

He didn't. I was there are Rocky practiced law for rough a year and half. He was an intellectual lightweight and could not handle the long hours. He was asked to pursue other opportunities and he did. End of story.

SO, Tony V. doesn't like the fact that Padilla DOESN'T stick to his convictions (is that the rub?) Isn't that how AV got Padilla to jump ship and back HIM for mayor in the last election. . . AV benefitting by someone NOT holding their ground THAT time.

BS hypocrisy. . .

What benefit? AV was going to win w/ or w/o flip-flopper Padilla. Padilla benefitted more for like 3 months by being associated w/ AV. Shit, look at his campaign website...he sure has a photo posted w/ AV.
pathetic.

Unsolicited suggestions:
(1) Get rid of the default blogger look!

(2) Figure out a way to snip your articles on the main page and allow people to read more after clicking a perma-link.

Sam,
Are you feeling OK? It's been almost a week without a Jim Alger story. Did the Koolaid turn sour or did Jim run out of things to make up?
