Montanez Gets SEIU
Sources are telling the Sister City that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has flipped their dual endorsement of Councilman Alex Padilla and Assembly Member Cindy Montanez in the 20th State Senate Democratic Primary to a single endorsement of Montanez.This gives Montanez's campaign a significant shot in the arm in terms of additional cash and other resources.
We've been told that since finding out about the endorsement, Padilla has allegedly been leaving "screaming voice mail messages" for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez. "The boy is melting down," our tipster says.
There is also speculation that Montanez could be close to grabbing the endorsement of the County Federation of Labor. Stay tuned.

SEIU is a great endorsement that brings a lot of resources to the Montanez campaign. I remember back in the day who much it help then-Mayor Hahn. SEIU did soooo much for him. If I were Padilla I would be scared…just like AV was.
I hear the CM Campaign has tapped all its donors and will be out of money before the election gets here.
I heard a rumor that Padilla and Montanez are both dropping out of the race because Jim "Cornhole" Alger has decided to move and run for this seat instead. Apparently they both fear the Cornhole

the differnece in that race was that SEIU didnt care for Hahn. in fact, SEIU did a lot (on the under) for AV. Why would AV be scared, they were walking for him.
I agree with 10:06, SEIU is great at turning out the recently registered voters. With Cindy Montanez getting AV's endorsement it should destroy Alex's base (if he even has one).

i belong to labor and let me tell you, this is big news. Labor loves Cindy but alex has been twisting labors arm to make sure they didnt get behide Cindy. im glad to see they finally told him to take a hike.

Cindy didn't get this endorsement, Parke Skelton did. Parke hates Alex and his little friend Cardenas about as much as he hates Nick Pacheco. Too bad Alex stabbed Nick in the back, I hear he has the goods on Cindy. Cindy used to hang out at the La Colectiva in Boyle Heights - the house that Huizar used as his headquarters - right around the time that the "Marina message" came out. Is this why Gloria Molina endorsed Alex?

Of course Gloria enodorsed both, there's plenty of her to go around. Alex is in a no win siutation - much like Alatorre was against Gloria Molina all those years. How do you attack a woman - in a political campaign - without appearing to be a big macho misogynist. And how do just stand there and take her onslaught without appearing to be a big pussy.
This race is Cindy's by default.

That's interesting, Nunez pretty much chewed out Padilla in a hallway of the Capitol when Padilla & hahn cut a deal with Arnold in 2004 (budget negotiations). Then he wonders why he hasn't been endorsed by the teachers, firefighters nor nurses.
HHHmmm SEIU. Don't they have, for the most part, members that either cannot vote for "legal reasons"? correct me if I am wrong, but half of their membership are illegal aliens, no? And they have not that many people in the district that can help much in any campaign. I can just see them in a rally for any political candidate, "si se puede, si se puede...orale la migra....corren le cabrones..."
Alex was a hack when he worked on campaigns. He got off to a decent start in the City Council and seemed like he really wanted to do a good job. But...he quickly got a taste for power and power plays, and this has led him down a slippery slope. This might be an example of why not to elect such young people. He didnt have any strong positions, other than a desire for higher office.
Or...maybe he was always just a little too ambitious and sleazy.
Ah, the people who think elections can be won through polls and internet blogging, go back to college and take a refresher course on intro to American politics and government. Although endorsements carry weight, people vote, not organizations. The question is whether Cindy and Alex will be able to convince voters on the cusps to vote for them, rather than simply targeting high propensity voters.
I agree with Anon 2:36. I question Alex's ability to get things done, considering that the quality of life in the NE SF Valley doesn't appear to be getting any better. However, despite all the gripes we have about the man, you have residents out there who like the guy even though they know nothing about him. Go talk to average constituent in Sylmar and Pacoima and I'm pretty sure many will tell you they like Alex, altough they probably won't be able to offer any good explanations as to why.
Personally, I think Cindy should move to the city of LA. Given her work in San Fernando, she'd probably give the NE SF Valley a nice makeover.

who better to speak to latinos that make up half of the registered voters. That's what SEIU does. They did it for Alex and Cindy in their first races. They didnt in the valley again for the Alliance for a better California against Arnold. So.......i guess they will manage to do it again for Cindy.

i was there, it wasn't Cindy pendejo. it was Alex in drag. why else do u think we never see him with women, only with felipe. its obvious tyrone didnt like it, Cindy got the endorsement.
