If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, Part II

A few days ago, we covered efforts by Dr. Charlotte Laws to go after restrictions on high fences around homes. One of our tipsters sends over an email that shows us that Councilman Bill Rosendahl is sympathetic to the cause:
Thank you for your email concerning the issue of over-height fences.

It is a hot-button issue and your opinion matters a great deal to Councilman Rosendahl.

In December, Councilman Greig Smith submitted a motion calling for a study of and report on the justification for current zoning standards regarding the height of fences and hedges. Since these standards are currently subject to review and possible modification by the City Council, Councilman Rosendahl is asking the Department of Building & Safety to suspend enforcement on the issue and to halt the issuance of citiations.

Thanks.

Mike Bonin
Chief of Staff
Councilman Bill Rosendahl

What arrogance! The laws limiting the height of fences has been around for about a century, but once Councilman is "concerned" and wants to study the law, so he unilaterally asks a City agency to simply stop enforcing the law?! That's not how law is supposed to work, Sparky! We don't have individual legislators pick and choose whether to enforce laws. If he wants to kill the law, let him persuade a majority of his colleagues. Criminey!

P.S. "...have been around," not "..has been around."

Unlike you Walter, I'm glad the councilmen are listening. Found this article written back in August 05 about the issue. Link above. Burbank has been debating this issue for awhile.

Even with my typo, I don't know how you come up with, "Unlike you Walter, I'm glad the councilmen are listening." Listening is fine. Listening is great. Sometimes I myself listen, and not just to the voices in my head. What is NOT great is for a City Councilman to tell City employees not to enforce laws. Rather, a City Councilman who doesn't like a law should persuade a majority of his colleagues to repeal it.

Dont get excited! Rosendahl will study and have meetings to show his "concern" and the nothing will happen. This is the MO of the perpetual candidate who runs his office like a permanent campaign. Go ask the Lincoln Place residents about the big rallies of support - right before they got dumped on the street. He's like Galanter. Constantly taking up the "cause" celeb and making the true believers excited - but never actually getting anything done. Could only muster 2 votes on his big issue - stopping Playa Vista. So much for his big campaign promises about how he had all these great contacts on the council etc.
