Alger Targets Santa Clarita
Jim Alger, Democratic Candidate for the 38th State Assembly District announced the addition of Mathew Waggner to Team Alger to head a Santa Clarita operations base."Matt's entire purpose in life between now and November will be to oversee the ground operation in Santa Clarita" said Campaign spokesman Mike O'Connell, "Matt Waggner brings with him the experience of field operations and the freshness of new ideas... ...of course what makes this newsworthy is that a Democrat has a ground operation in Santa Clarita."

Boys, boys. Look at Alger's 460 (which he has posted online) and you'll see he's spent more than $4000 on goods and services so looks like you boys are - ahem - lying (again).

Let's talk about issues that matter in the district. Let's talk about what it takes to run a campaign--winning or losing campaign. (Shaw has no intent of running any kind of campaign at all.)

I guarantee that every thread between here and election day we will see this 10 year old arrest brought up. Alger expected it, which is why he released the information.

I would settle on knowing where Lyn stood on ANY subject.
She has no record to speak of and refuses to run a campaign of any level so why should any of us take her seriously?
The Algerites are out in force almost daily and he picks up more volunteers at every speech he delivers. He also has the record to support his positions on local control, and standing up for the little guy.
If Lyn's campaign team of 2 1/2 (the 1/2 is Mitchell Englader) think that concentrating on 1 mistake 10 years ago somehow will erase all the good Alger has done SINCE then, they are sadly mistaken.
We have watched Jim take on developers, stop the LAUSD from taking private homes, prevent a 18% rate hike, organize over 40 Councils to forge a contract with DWP, fly to the gulf to help Hurricane Katrina Victims, and defeat the worlds largest corporation Wal Mart.
You can try and "Swift Boat" him all day long but it won't work.
Oh, and by the way... quit saying your "not connected to any campaign" or "refer to this post 'some blogger' made on this thread". In the history of Mayor Sam NOBODY has EVER done that. You have been doing it ever since Jim mopped the floor with Lyn in Van Nuys last week. Now your running scared.

Here we go again -- slinging mud and blood and whatever disgusting stuff you can grab is really boring. In the 38th AD (in which I am!), we want representation in Sacramento. We want our representative to remember where we are on the map in California and to show up in the District, respond to phone calls and letters and emails, and REPRESENT us. The credibility of the mudslingers on this blog is nil. Wash your mouths out with 20 mule team borax, get out in the real world (away from your computer) and do something positive. Now that would be worth blogging about!
You will never find a Hilfenhaus supporter talking about any issues because other than partisan democratic causes she has none.
Hell, how much does she even support unions when she is so ashamed of her union boss husband she won't even use his name?
She thinks people will vote for her because someone else told her to. Then she will let the seat go virtually uncontested.

As someone in the know I can tell you what Alger is waiting for. His opponent to openly confront his so-called history. Not someone anonymously posting, but an actual candidate because it is a good old fashioned trap. He is going to wait until his opponent believes there is so much smoke, there is fire and then makes the charge directly.
At which time Alger will promptly remove the torch from Lyn's hand and burn her house down. To say what I know would expose me, but this isn't a tact you want to take.
Alger has an impressive ground operation coming together rather rapidly. He has written off many of the endorsements that I wouldn't have but he has instead focused on an intense ground campaign.
Alger for State Assembly lawn signs and bumper stickers are already beginning to pop up in the North Valley and Santa Clarita. Maybe they're staffers, maybe volunteers or maybe supporters but regardless he is out there when nobody else, including Smyth is.
Endorsements don't win elections, interaction with the people do. Jim Alger is out walking precincts, hanging out at shopping centers and speaking at large events... and he's been doing this for months. See this Santa Clarita Signal Article One man's run at Assembly now his "job"
Jim has been getting "free media" for months and has an well established repor with the voters. Assuming Alger gets no endorsements at all (which is already not possible) he still has the advantage.
That advantage only goes up when the other side attacks him on non-issue nonsense. It merely shows their desperation.

Shaw, Hilfenhaus whatever name she chooses to use this week is using attacking Alger to raise her own profile.
She has no issues, no stature in the community and after she is done spending all of her political capital on the Assembly race she will be a distant memory by July.
The unions and everyone else who felt compelled to support Hilfenhaus, Shaw whoever will rally behind Jim Alger on June 7th and kiss his ass raising his status in the party and in public.
Lyn hasn't done her homework. With her so-called spies in his "inner circle" you would think she would know how he thinks, which is to say OUT LOUD. He tells you what he is going to do before he does it and you still don't get it.
Alger is known for amassing large amounts of people out of thin air and the big rumor I hear is that he is planning on self-funding about 100 grand.
Alger is much shrewder than most people give him credit for.

Wow, I was going to post on here before, but this has really devolved pretty quickly in the last couple of hours.
With 30 posts, I expected one or two questions about Santa Clarita or the ground game. Ah well.
Anyway - if you're wondering where the Santa Clarita number goes to, as I understand it, it forwards to me - one of the few damn fools to actually post with their name on this site.
Re: Clean Money - it's actually incredibly cheap on a per-taxpayer basis (something like $5 a year), and I actually had the opportunity with a handful of other SCV dems to petition the Santa Clarita City Council to adopt it in town last night.
The "only out of pocket" style of funding has been tested in the form of McCain-Feingold (BCRA), and I think, anecdotally, we can say that it's more or less failed in its original intent.

Funny thing, Alger doesn't know who his enemies are. I for one, find it hysterical that his camp assumes it’s the staffers in Greg Smith’s office or the Hilfenhaus family. It’s not. He has bigger enemies then that. Think back a few years Mr. Alger. Think. And, I am sure you’ll figure it out…

Yes, I am sure blogging on mayor sam anonymously will somehow "exact revenge" on Jim. What you fail to understand is that in the "political arena" less than half of what you say is taken seriously anyway.
When you talk about spending money to do it, you will have to expose yourself or violate campaign finance laws. Upon exposure, motivation becomes clear, which is why you hide behind anonymous.

Please stop with all the posts about Jim Alger. Seriously, who cares? This blog is great because it covers the nitty gritty of LA City Hall, not because of some assclown running for an Assembly seat. Start a new blog for Alger or put the content on MS2. It's enough already.

Sorry, Valleybrat, I am looking for full disclosure. If Alger is going to "Lead by Example" regarding clean money and transparency in endorsements, he can give full disclosure on this issue.

At the end of the day the conviction was set aside by the Superior court, (probably out of the interest of justice because of its ridiculous nature) so I'm not sure what difference it makes for anything other than trying to stir up trouble under the veil of anonymity.
I am sure opponents would love to make something out of an issue Alger disclosed voluntarily when he had no obligation to simply to avoid the fact that they have yet to answer a single question about where they stand on any issue.
This entire thing is nothing more than a Weapon of Mass Distraction by the Hilfenhaus team of 2.

We do not know why he was arrested. What he was convicted of. Why the conviction was set aside. Why it was dismissed. And if Mr. Alger was factual innocent, why he did not request a declaration declaring such from the court of jurisdiction. We only have his word.

ummm maybe because it was STUPID to charge a guy for not filling out a form right. As you said in your earlier rants "people don't get convicted of mistakes".. actually they do all the time. Cops go on personal vendettas and routinely "up charge" someone.
The case was dismissed. We don't care about it. The only person who seems to care is YOU. Most of us wouldn't have cared if the case hadn't been dismissed. It was a form 10 years ago, wasn't as if he was knocking over 7-11's last Thursday so GIVE IT A REST.
