I don't go around lavishing praise on elected officials, but MAV was inspirational in his remarks on KNX this morning regarding LAUSD.
When half the kids who enter our high schools don't graduate, the system is broken. The existing power structure has had many years to figure out how to fix it, and they have failed.
If MAV is willing to stand up in the line of fire and take on this intractable problem, more power to him.
Thank you Mr. Mayor.

Agreed Archie. Antonio did absolutely nothing when he was councilman of CD14 that has the nation's 2nd largest overcrowded school Roosevelt in his own backyard. It is political but he's already burning bridges along the way.

I hope I'm being too cynical, but I don't think our mayor is serious about reforming the schools. I think it's all a combination show and stall tactics. He'll say how bad the schools are, and he may even re-arrange who's supposedly in charge, but when all is said and done, I expect the teacher's union will still run the show, with, say former LAUSD board member turned Councilman Huizar as titular head. (Beavis, he said "titular.") What I'd like to see is the Mayor advocate giving YOUR children the same education he gave HIS children: a PRIVATE school education.

All points taken.
The Mayor himself used the word "accountability" (I call it the "a word") several times.
We need to take careful note of what he has said, document it in every possible way (the Mayor Sam blog for starters), and remind him, and the public, of it at every turn.
If he does not produce, I will be ther first to criticize him without mercy, on the Mayor Sam blog and from every other platform I can find, particularly if and when he next runs for office.
On the other hand, if he can fix the LAUSD, I will be the first to support him for whatever office he chooses to seek - AFTER HIS 8 YEARS AS MAYOR.
