Emergency in the "562"

I hope you don't have an emergency in parts of Long Beach this morning....

According to the County's Office of Emergency Management, there has been a massive communications failure in several cities throughout the “562” area code including “911” dispatch centers for police/fire/ems. Verizon communications indicates that the problem is an equipment failure in their Long Beach office. Verizon is working to correct the problem, but gives no estimate for reestablish of telephone services.
