Where In The World Is Weiss?
Some Council members and possibly a few contituents are wondering if Council Member Jack Weiss is earning the $143,837* a year he is being paid by the taxpayers of Los Angeles.
Last week Weiss took off on Tuesday and Wednesday (missing a council meeting each day) to visit Washington, D.C., presumably to raise funds for a future run at higher office. During the third meeting of the week on Friday, Weiss was in attendance but left the meeting early, causing the council to lose quroum. Several of Weiss' colleagues on the Council were miffed as a number of key votes had to be postponed.
According to our tipsters, the feeling around City Hall is that Weiss has one foot out the door and isn't quite eager to play City Councilman these days.
In other Weiss news, the Councilman is taking heat from Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. Coupal recounts a recent exchange between Weiss and local talkradio hosts. Weiss was asked why isn't spending priority given to critical items such as public safety, roads, etc. and then items perceived as less important (such as the Cultural Affairs Department for example?) be placed up for votes for tax increases instead. Weiss responded no one would vote for that "stuff." Coupal accuses Weiss of insulting the intellience of the voters, but I say Weiss is on target. Pork barrel items would rarely if ever get a nod from the voters. That is why the politicians put up the important stuff on the ballot like police, fire and schools and beg for more money.

If there is a more cushy job than a LA City Council I would like to know what it i. Six figure salary, a car and all the hotties you can get. A better gig than a US Senator.

By far LA has the worst city council members in the nation. They act like school children in chambers not paying attention, talking, being disrespectful etc. Many of them aren't in their chairs on time and Alex (lame prez) has to call for them. Many of them leave during council meetings and it looks horrible for the public to see so many empty seats. If Padilla was any kind of leader (and we all know he's not) he would get harsh with them. We are paying their salaries to act like babies.

They are overpaid! They miss more than 1/2 the meetings and misuse funds. Fire them!
We don't need the city council, just keep the 80 neighborhood watch groups for free. They run things, recruit, and organize the community.

Call ABC NEWS. Have them do a program on Council Meetings and how the dismal attendance is ignored. Remember, they must show up unannounced, otherwise they will be present for photo ops.

Have you seen the way the 80 neighborhood councils run themselves lately 8:54?

Yes.
Exactly, horrendous. If we are to get shitty service, might as well get it for free, right?

The Council Members are all really pissed at Weiss these days.
Anonymous said:
Of course they're all pissed at him, holding up key votes in Council.

Yes, that is a hornpipe in my pocket and I am happy to see you.

Padilla needs to run a tighter ship during the meetings. Perhaps another lawsuit is needed!
Anonymous said:
"What lawsuit be you speakin' o' in regards t' Padilla? Weiss be a lame politician you does lap dances for t' Mayor!"

,"Mayor Sam, Mayor Frank, Chief "multiple personality" Parker, see you in court."

Last year a man who spoke at public comment SUED the council for not paying attention and WON. He took a videocamera and showed them talking on cellphones, talking to eachother and not paying attention. Padilla doesn't have the council's respect that's why they ignore him. One of the reporters should do a story on how many times the committee meetings have been canceled this year. Mind you council members get summer recess, vacation time off and holidays yet they can't even perform their elected duties and attend council like mature adults or their committee meetings.

Report all of your experiences, "in the know" information, abuse of power from your local politicians to any or all of these media contacts.
If the story is confirmed, eventually, one will do a story on it.

L.A. Daily News
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa nearly violated one of the unwritten rules of politics last week when he met with reporters during his brief trip to Washington, D.C.
When you're a politician, the rule goes, never, ever make fun of Iowa or New Hampshire - states key to future political ambitions.
For Villaraigosa, the near foot-in-mouth incident occurred while he was discussing the need for more homeland security money for big cities, like Los Angeles, as he criticized a proposal from smaller states' legislators seeking their share of the money.
Villaraigosa quickly caught himself when he cited, as an example, "Des Moines, Iowa ..."

Listen dumbshit...
I delete any off topic crap as well as anything unfounded that says that people are gay, having affairs, selling drugs, acting as coyotes, etc.
Also deleted your dumb ass list of national TV shows (Like David Letterman is going to care about Jack Weiss). By the way your info is out of date, Dan Rather is on longer on the CBS Evening News.
Take all your off topic crap to the open thread.

That's really funny coming from a bunch of City Hall staffers who spend their entire days blogging - whose salaries we ALSO pay!!

Weiss has the audacity to skip out on meetings. I don't recall another city councilman accused of the same behaviour but I don't think it is uncommon.

Mayor Sam never use to delete the lies Chief Parker would post. Someone in Antonio's camp is getting to this website. No more freedom of speech. Why now start deleting? Its a double standard here. You guys can post B.S. but let anyone else exercise their freedom of speech and you delete.

Great editorial in today's Daily News.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
Villaraigosa's got to do more than fill potholes
Just three months into his term as Los Angeles mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa has declared war on the city's 35,000 potholes.

jack is a frustrated prosecutor, he want's higher office, but doesn't know where to go. When Jim Hahn was in office, Jack found time to fight with Jim and his administration. Where is he at now, AV is mayor and this precludes Jack to attack AV, since he endorsed AV. Poor Jack, he doesn't want to go to work.
PhilKrakover said:
Jack is getting ready to be City Attorney. Duh.
Antonio will endorse him. Duh.
At least he puts his money where his mouth is.
All he needs now is for Rocky to beat Governor Moonbeam.
I like his chances; if he doesn't, Poochigian will. Jerry Brown will never be Attorney General of California. Too much baggage.

weiss is the dud who was on the phone mongering with alexia from DVNH when they voted to shut down the blue zebra.
he wants to run for city attorney, but would rather run for d.a., but he would be in an off year.
brown is going to be ag. he is owed favors by every dem in the world. including LBJ.

Nobody has mentioned that Weiss has the biggest idiot for chief of staff- Denise Sample. Its no wonder he doesn't show up...he doesn't have a COS he can respect or who can demand that he show up and actually work.
