Live from the Weisenthal center, Rabbi Cooper is speaking.
This press conference was originally about terrorism in light of the coming high holy days.
On behalf of the Jewish community, Rabbi Cooper thanks the DWP.
Rabbi Cooper: MAV is someone who has shown great leadership.
MAV: We were hear yesterday, remembered 9.11, that day our lives changed forever. Since 9.11 we have to prepare for the unthinkable, attacks on our city. Recent arrest of terrorists in LA shows we are targeted.
MAV: Today I am proud to stand with leaders of Jewish community to show we are ready. You will hear from Chief Bratton, and leaders of the 2nd largest Jewish community of the steps we are taking.
MAV: There is no credible threat, but LA remains a top target. With the coming high holy days, we stand together to avert any threat. We will not be cowards and will continue to work togther to make this coming new year a year of peace (spoke Hebrew).
MAV: later I will make statement about power outage
Mark Coogan: Will you do that now?
MAV: today at 12:37 damage was done to the system which caused power outage throughout LA. Incident was caused inadvertantly during maintenanc work at station.
MAV: The fact that this happened day after 9.11 is one of concern. But we are ready to act. Vast majority of DWP cusotmers got power within 2 hours. 90%. By 10pm all traffic signals will work, DOT is on emergency basis we expect could be ready before 10pm, now if I could allow us to resume.
9 News has cut away from conference
Local news has cut away. CNN, Fox, MSNBC, Cityview is not covering. That's it.
Cable Nets covered LA for a bit but back to New Orleans now.
Antonio spoke in Hebrew? Has he gotten circumsized yet?
John North is class act. Always has been. Good reporter.
Is everyone parked legally at the Center?
They're not very "tolerant" about that, you know?
Good job, guys. Local news teasers indicate problem could have been related to act of a single person.
Is it true the Taliban Johnny that made the threat is from the SF Valley?
Don't know if they're legally parked there, but we'll take photos if they're not! :)
Although he's dumber than the shit he steps on - quoting John Vasconcellos - Cruz Bustamante said it best during a gubenatorial debate, "...a society should not just be tolerant, that implies you are accepting despite your reservations." Of course he was referring to undocumented immigrants.
Smiley faces? On the former hard-hitting Mayor Sam's blog. It's become a damn sorority house now.
Later, girlfriends, I'm due for a pedicure!
Jimmy Hahn kept the lights on during some of the worst rolling black/brownouts in the history of the state.
Impo-Tony can't keep the juice flowing for 90 days.
With that curly hair, short stature and all out embrace, Tony's got to have a little Jew in him. God knows there's being a lot of Jews with a little Tony in them.
Hmmmmmmmm now what kind of raise was the average DWP worker gonna get over the next few years????
2 million peeps in the dark by one maintenance employee??????????
4:32 Tony has Sephardic ancestry... (VILLAR)

One local radio station had a caller say the outage "mistake" was a message to the city council to get a move on approving their raises....
Don't know her, but I'd kinda like more photos of Lucia Alvelais...
it's called a pre-strike strike kids
A pre-strike as opposed to a secondary strike which is what brought us the Belmont fiasco when Maria Elena Durazo, frustrated that she couldn't organize the Otani, marshalled Gil Cedillo and Antonio Villaraigosa into service to go after the construction company building Belmont because they had the same owner as the Otani. The construction company still got paid, the only losers were our kids. And along with DWP, there you have labor politics in L.A. today. Do you think anybody would have checked for ground contamination otherwise? Most LAUSD schools, including the new ones, are built on contaminated soil.
