MAV Wants To Be Tom LaBonge's Constituent
Despite earlier statements to the contrary, reports are surfacing that Mayor Villaraigosa and his family may move into Getty House, LA's answer to Gracie Mansion.
If so, the Villaraigosas would be the first First Family to live in the home since Tom and Ethel Bradley. Dick Riordan and Jim Hahn both eschewed the official mansion for their personal digs in Brentwood and San Pedro, respectively. The Hancock Park area manse was owned by the Getty Company, once home to acting teacher Lee Strassberg and has been the official Mayoral residence (upon donation by Getty to the City) since 1975, however Tom Bradley did not move in until 1977. Currently the Villaraigosas live in Mt. Washington.
David Zahniser writes in the Daily Breeze that a confidential memo was sent to the non-profit organization that maintains Getty House that the city is preparing for the family to move in. Though the discussions were to remain confidential, it looks like they were leaked. Zahnhiser quotes Villaraigosa spokeswoman Janelle Erickson, "Mayor Villaraigosa and his family are still considering whether to use the Getty House as their residence."
I can't wait to see the cutting and pasting that is going to go on over this!

This was put under the rumors post.
Does the city incur additional expenses by the family living there? Is this the most proper thing to do given the current "budget crisis" that MAV describes? Or did he go to D.C. to secure funding for him to live in the mansion?

Leave it to the bean to be movin on up to the west side.
Mayor Sam said:
There probably are some additional costs, but I am sure the city incurs about the same amount of costs for security at his existing house. With nobody living there, the City pays over $100,000 a year to maintain as a park. So if the City is going to own it, the Mayor might as well live there. If the Mayor doesn't want to live there, they should sell it or give it some non-profit to avoid the expense. I can't see any real need for the city to use it other than as a home for the Mayor.

MAV should move in to the Ghetty House. This is only proper and brings back the true meaning of a Mayorship in LA. We have forgotten what it means to be Mayor of the second largest city in the US. MAV is entitled to it and should live there and maintain it as their family residence.

Hahn always had his Fleischman-Hillard sponsored Xmas parties there. Riordan had parties there too.
The house is a good one for receptions and protocol (but is vulnerable to noisy protesters and with its open front lawn requires heightened security). It's also proximate to most consulates in town, which is its best feature. Too bad there's that new 3-1/2 foot wall ordinance, otherwise they could take care of security details more easily.

close friends knew that he that he talked about moving there all along.

Yea but if its only for receptions, its a waste of money. They could have them at other city owned facilities OR at a hotel (way cheaper).

I've been there for parties when Hahn was mayor (they weren't just FH parties) and I can't imagine why anybody wouldn't want to live there.
I think Antonio and his family should definitely live there.
It's got the coolest basement with a killer wine cellar.

at least 3 of his consultants - skelton, barken, and shimplock - live in CD 14. That's why they want to beat Pacheco so badly.

Happy move AV! What? Were you expecting me to say something sarcastic? I hope he enjoys the new residence. It's a great place
Anonymous said:
Antonio just wants to be in a better part of town. His arrogant butt can't take living in a neighborhood where they can't stand him. This is a historical site and AV will just bring the housing prices down with all his corrupt friends going there. In 12 years no other mayor lived in that house. City hall insiders are saying the wife will stay at the Mt. Washington house and AV will take his mistresses to hide there.

What is it about the Mexican American community that makes itself so full of hate for its own?
Why not rejoice that the voters of the City of Los Angeles have come to the point where they can elect a Mexican American Mayor and honor him and his heritage?
Antonio's election opens the door and raises the bar for all Mexican Americans everywhere, but particularly in Los Angeles.
Yet, a small vocal minority of the folks in CD 14 continue to be bitter about his every move. Is it because your darling Pacheco was displaced during this ascendancy? Don't you know that you have to break some eggs to make an omelot?
The last two elections are over.
Why not devote your energy to making Los Angeles a better place for all of us, Mexican Americans, Whites, Blacks, Asians, whatever?
Get over it guys, Antonio is the Mayor of us all. Show some respect for the office he holds and let it go.
I support his move to Getty House. It is fitting and proper that the Mayor should live there, that's why it was built.
Don't try to put an ugly face on it; nobody is buying that crapola.

Phil you have no clue why CD 14 people are so angry with Antonio. Maybe if you lived there you would be able to understand. Antonio got maybe 25% of the vote in the district. As taxpayers CD14 residents have been disrespected, dismissed and ignored for over 2 yrs. Every district has field reps help with quality of life issues. Those reps go to meetings and do their job. CD14 reps are a joke. You should have gone to the ABC7 meeting and heard what the residents think of Antonio and those reps. Even police officers in the district don't like them. How many Mexican American politicans have embarrassed their people being corrupt, sleazy and eventually cutting their own throat. Where should I start?

Is it that the mayor wants to be a LaBonge constituent or that he doesn't want to be a Pacheco constituent?

^Both. Plus he can preach to the Hancock Park masses the importance of the Subway to the Ocean.

Phil:
You are obviously a limousine liberal who is accepting of mediocrity. How can I as a Mexican American be accepting of someone who has basically done zip for his community, expect make promises that have yet to materialize? So he says that he helped pass Healthy Families, I am sure Sen. Martha Escutia would passionately dispute that statement. So he passed a bond for a greener California. Once again, he has indebted Californians for his own self benefit.
Explain to me why I should be proud that Antonio has raised the bar for other Mexican Americans? How? The man can’t even pass the bar exam after 4 attempts, dropped out of school (earning a 1.8 GPA), became the poster child for affirmative action at UCLA, cheated on his wife (and continues from my understanding), and to top it off and has two children out of wedlock. Now remind me again why I should be proud? What you are saying is that this type of behavior is acceptable and should be rewarded. Well I prefer to be proud of Latino leaders such as Xavier Becerra who has basically done thing right and honorably not only in public service but in his personal life. Here is someone who comes from humble beginnings, earned a B.A. and Law Degree from Stanford university is married to an amazing Latina doctor (Stanford and Harvard graduate) who in her own right can hold her own and has three intelligent, compassionate daughters!
So excuse me if you fail to comprehend why the Latino community fails to “honor him and his heritage.” Please if I wanted to have these types of disgusting Latino politicians I would have stayed in Mexico in the first place. And all this is coming from someone who does NOT live in CD 14!

I don't believe the house was built for the Mayor to live in. It was donated by the Getty family and decided that it should be the official residence of the Mayor. I'm not sure who decided, but I know it wasn't built specifically for a Mayoral residence.
But I hope he moves in! Great house..

Phil, are you on crack? I am Central American and, I know, everyone thinks that's the same, but it's not!
And....I know how important it is ti support my Latino brothers and sisters because people don't acknowldege us as a separate entity, BUT....MAV is not someone whom I would necessarily consider a reputable leader.
He does not represent me or speak for me!
Monica, seems like you speak from experience or first-hand knowledge.? :) BTW, I think you're right.
4:12-I agree. There is absolutely nothing that makes me feel proud to be part of his constituency.
People are misinformed as we all know(Phil).
I think it's all an act to him. He has a part to play and he wants to play it well.
The only problem is that when he goes home, the brown stuff on his face is there to stay. NO amount of washing can remove the dark and shady corruption-driven complexion.
I don't care where he moves.
BTW, does anyone know where the other Councilmembers reside and how modest THEIR humble abodes are?
