Congrats to the New Assemblyman
From the Daily Breeze:
Lieu captures open Assembly seat outright
Torrance City Councilman Ted Lieu, the lone Democrat on the ballot in the 53rd Assembly District, crushed three Republicans on Tuesday and avoided a November runoff election to replace the late Mike Gordon.
With all precincts reporting, Lieu captured 59.9 percent of the vote -- three times his closest challenger in the five-candidate field. By winning a majority, Lieu avoids facing the leading Republican vote-getter in a Nov. 8 runoff in the Lomita-to-Venice district.

Good Job Lieu. This is proof positive that local support for a good candidate can beat Sacramento money. Gordon's memory and the 53rd will be well served by Ted Lieu.

The Republican-backed candiate was the reason the GOP lost this one, not the district lines.
Kevin McCarthy, et al, are going to blame the lines and try to use this as an agrument for Prop. 77.
It just doesn't ring true.
Mary Jo was a flawed candidate and the GOP just didn't put the resources in this race to win.
The plain and simple truth is Kev got beat, badly, and it's his fault, not the district boundries.

That's pretty good. If I recall in the November 2004 General Election, Mike Gordon only won 50% of the vote. In a special election, you would think this would be a good chance for Republicans to pick up a seat in the assembly. I guess not. Hey does anyone know where he stands on the issue of gay marriage?
