Huizar, Wesson for Council
Jose Huizar
Under his leadership, LAUSD has undertaken the largest public works program in the country with a plan to build 160 new schools in the next eight years. His interest in bringing additional accountability to the District has led him to work with the City of Los Angeles and surrounding cities to establish a L.A. City/LAUSD commission to examine LAUSD governance; the first comprehensive evaluation of the District in its over 150 year history.
When he was first campaigning for his seat, he was the only candidate to gain the trust of both rival PAC's at the time. Both republican mayor Richard Riordan and left-leaning UTLA trusted Jose to make the right decisions for our students. From his tough no nonsense stance on truancy to his support for intervention programs helping students after-school. Jose has shown leadership, which is why his colleagues on the board gave him the Presidency two terms in a row. When it comes to working with the City Council CD 14 needs someone that can broker deals with fellow council members and the New Mayor to get CD 14's fair share. Jose's young energetic perspective on government is needed to give the district a fresh start. Jose is far removed from the old battle scars of the eastside -- he was never apart of the old Molina, Alatorre wars nor has he been part of the Polanco/Villaraigosa battles of the past. In fact, Jose did support Pacheco in 03, however since then he has seen first hand the work of Antonio Villaraigosa and wants to continue the forward progress made since his rise to the Mayor's office. Nick Pacheco represents the divided past whose ethical lapses make me wonder if he has truly seen the light.
Herb Wesson
Amateur hour is over for the City of Los Angeles. Former speaker Herb Wesson is exactly what the doctor ordered. With the new dynamic Mayor the city needs new proven leadership, a President of the school board and the former speaker of the assembly is what LA needs to get moving again. A fighter for education and working families during his term, Speaker Wesson ensured that many of the vital programs that serve our weakest links were saved and protected. With supporters like Bob Hertzberg and Supervisor Yvonne Burke the folks in CD 10 will know they have a champion for them in Council. With 2 former speakers working the phones for Los Angeles I think Sacramento is going to be ensuring that the City gets its fair share of program money to ease congestion, reform our K-12 system and fight crime.

chief Parker you most likely got the strong arm treatment just like all of those who are endorsing Sleazy Huizy to post this. Jose has left LAUSD in a bigger mess then went became Prez. How in the world can you possibly think he can do any better as councilman? HE CAN'T. Weazel doesn't have any experience and nothing to tout as accomplishments. Why don't you ask parents of students in the schools and I guarantee you would get a far different answer.

Dear Parke Skelton (aka Chief Parker),
The only deals he will broker for CD14 or land deals for his friends and family. His Law degree in the subject of land is coming in handy for Meruelo & Company. Your little candidate has much more in store for us, that is, ripping the citizens of CD14 from land acquisitions and money laundering. Broker? Yes, for Meruelo/Riordan/Broad.

My dear friend Bill, I beg to differ. It was under the leadership of Caprice Young that the "LAUSD has undertaken the largest public works program in the country." It was Caprice's innovative leadership that began the whole damn thing to begin with.
Weezy just rode on her coattails.
Like I said - nice guy - just not ready for Prime Time.

Great, Huizar's planning a "comprehensive evaluation" of the district. I'd hate to see him miss that.
By all means, elect Pacheco, so Huizar can finish being comprehensive.
(This is like that $800 "comprehensive diagnosis" your mechanic cons you into when your brakes are squeaking.. then after he's kept your car for 12 hours, he give you the bill and says "diagnosis says you need new brakes; that's going to be $800 for the 'diagnosis' and $500 for the brakes."
Mayor Sam said:
And don't forget, Tofu Girl also supports Nick. Not sure who she likes for the 10th.
Mayor Sam said:
Wesson MIGHT be okay, if he wasn't a carpetbagger and if he was planning to stay in the seat.
Fairchild brings innovation we need, not the same old school backroom politics. I could see her partnering up with Rosendahl on some real innovative ideas.

No nonsense stance on truancy????
Now they just DROP OUT and never finish, period. ("Yeah," says Jose, "but there are less TRUANTS!)

There's that Shifty Skelton-Speak again. . . "ethical lapses."
Detail the "ethical lapses" Chief Faker. I'm sure Parke gave you the full script... the one the Times has been warned about re-printing because EVERY one turned out to be a figment of AV's campaign staff's wet drams.
(And while you're discussing "ethics" CHIEF, how about detailing the 80 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES you lied about for ADV for months on end earlier this year!)
You PROMISED you'd tell all about the 100+ watches you found, you PROMISED you'd print the results on TWO BLOGS, you PROMISED you'd serve a full term on council (no, that was you're idol; CD14's idle)
....or was that your ETHICAL LAPSE!!!!!

I am a Villaraigosa supporter and I still support him. Villaraigosa has asked us to support Huizar, but I will not do that. I do not support Huizar and I have my own mind and decisions to make. I appreciate the mayor's input, but I have a brain and I know Huizar is not a good choice for the district. It is all politics, in the end who ever wins, the Mayor needs to use consensus and work with the winner, otherwise it will be bad for his image as a vindictive, vengeful politician and reinforces the idea that us Latinos are thugs and hypocrites that do not know how to run government.
Anonymous said:
Bullshit Parker says "CD 14 needs someone that can broker deals with fellow council members and the New Mayor to get CD 14's fair share."
Guess what, under Pacheco, GREAT deals were brokered with the council, and CD14 got MORE than it's fair share. MILLIONS coming in now through CLARTS and other programs. So Jose would ONLY give us our FAIR share.
To hell with that! NO more steps backward for trainee councilmembers.

Chief Faker is not Parke, it is an Antonio campaign person who has the brain of a "meathead."

"No 'whey' Jose" (I get the joke!)obviously isn't on a government payroll, or he would have clocked out an hour ago.
Although, from the overview of Huizar's tenure at LAUSD, it sounds more like he's "No Huevos Jose."
No bold steps, just do more "studies" and build more buildings while thousands of students fall through the cracks every year, and Jose collects campaign money from the builders...

Good job Jose. You did nothing to improve student acheivment and now you are taking credit for the school construction program that Romer put together. Jose's weak staff (yes, Monica)ensures that Jose can always blame someone. Ask anyone here at the District and they'll tell you Jose has the weakest staff.

Heritage-Currency Auctions of America is proud to announce that it has been chosen to sell the Lowell Horwedel Collection, the largest collection of California National Bank Notes ever assembled. Containing over 950 California Nationals, it far surpasses any collection of California notes ever previously sold, including such landmark offerings as the Charles Colver Collection, which Currency Auctions of America was privileged to sell in May of 1999, and the Philip Krakover Collection, which was sold in 1990. The Horwedel Collection is not limited to National Bank Notes alone, as it contains almost 100 California obsolete and scrip items, several of which are thought to be unique and many which are considered excessively rare.

high-powered meeting of a different sort took place last week among Los Angeles Unified School District officials and United Teachers Los Angeles.
In an effort to set a new tone, Superintendent Roy Romer, school board President Marlene Canter and UTLA President Pat Duffy went on a two-day retreat in Oxnard, where they sought common ground as the district finds itself under attack.
LAUSD spokeswoman Stephanie Brady said Canter came up with the idea similar to retreats held by some of her predecessors as a way to meet with Duffy, who is new to his job, and Romer and his staff to discuss a variety of issues.
One of the topics was the upcoming union negotiations, but it was also a chance for Romer to develop a new relationship with the school board.
Romer and former board President Jose Huizar were said to have, at best, a chilly relationship, with neither man giving support to or finding it from the other. With Canter coming in, board members said they hope to see more cooperation between the elected officials and the staff.
The district is facing pressure from all fronts these days. With a high dropout rate, improving but still-low test scores and increasing levels of campus violence, there have been calls ranging from a breakup of the district to turning all power over to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

(I-Newswire) - Los Angeles, CA. School auditors and investigators describe their disappointment over the failure of prosecutors to file charges for the big dollar crimes that were documented by the Los Angeles Unified School District ( LAUSD ) Office of Inspector General. In a nine minute video blog featured on Full Disclosure Network™ website at www.fulldisclosure.net starting Monday, August 8, 2005 the investigators describe some of the most egregious investigations undertaken by the Inspector General’s office.
Former Inspector General Don Mullinax responded to Full Disclosure™ when asked what he thought about the fact there were no prosecutions resulting from his extensive reports of waste, fraud and abuse on the still incomplete $330 million Belmont Learning Center. Mullinax said he was disappointed "after having spent almost three years of my life working on that report, other reports and on the District Attorney’s Belmont Task Force on Belmont."
Anthony Patchett who headed the D.A.'s investigation on Belmont said "Don Mullinax did an outstanding job. He found a lot of fraud and corruption. It’s just the fact that when he took those cases to the District Attorney’s office, they chose not to go forward with them. They’ll go ahead and they’ll prosecute the small crimes under $15,000, but for the other crimes that Mr. Mullinax has found, they still have that blind eye towards that".

Full Disclosure has a video report online featuring interviews with Patchett, LAUSD Inspector General Don Mulllinax, former US Attorney General Ed Meese who describes the secret bond financing process as a “gimmick” to fool the taxpayers.

CAREER PROSECUTOR STEVE COOLEY
WHO IS COOLEY PROTECTING?
Yet when Cooley brought Patchett back to head the Belmont task force, the results were unimpressive at best. Patchett wanted to indict the lot of Belmont participants for grand theft and blames Cooley for the lack of prosecutions. He also complains that he’d have accomplished more except that his three top prosecutors were, respectively, sick, off-kilter and obsessed with playing basketball. But he had chosen them personally for this task force; they were his former colleagues in the environmental unit.
Rightly or wrongly, most of the staff simply disagreed with Patchett’s interpretation of the Belmont case. Some came to view Patchett as having questionable judgment. Patchett, in turn, says he would have obtained convictions if he’d been allowed to finish his work.
Ultimately, Cooley removed Patchett from the leadership of the task force in July 2001. Patchett retired again from the office six months later. We’re unconvinced that Patchett is capable of being an effective District Attorney.

“I found evidence of a conspiracy to commit grand theft,” says Anthony Patchet, a retired deputy D.A. and Glendale resident who Cooley brought in to head a two-year, $1.6 million investigation of the massive Belmont Learning Center scandal that resulted in no criminal prosecutions. Patchett, 64, is running against Cooley on a platform of reestablishing environmental crimes as a separate division, and “using a much different philosophy in the types of crimes prosecuted – looking at corporate criminals.”

The downtown skyline is visible in the distance behind him as he walks south on the narrow sidewalk, passing mannequins in front of boutiques and a car wash before stopping at a storefront near 32nd and Maple to talk to Erlinda Carrillo, a 43-year-old accountant. Carrillo says local residents and business owners have received notices that the school district is exercising its right of eminent domain to seize property to make way for new school construction. A new high school was built recently less than a mile away, she says. “This is an old neighborhood with families and businesses,” Carrillo says. “Why can’t they tear down the warehouses over on Main and Broadway that have hardly any employees?” She suspects developers are eyeing her neighborhood and that Los Angeles Unified School District president Jose Huizar is too. “We have what downtown wants,” says Torres. “Houses and families and culture, with businesses that people walk to. If downtown is to grow, then let us grow too.”

Mayor Frank,
Are you going crazy? Who are you talking to? How do we know if the information is relevant or not when you delete all of the posts.

Last time I heard you Latinos were drooling over Huizar sticking it to the poor man on the Belmont issue. Are you the drop out who is getting who was promised by Huizar a diploma if you blogged for him at night?
Anonymous said:
Cooley hushed up the investigation and literally closed it so your buddy Huizee would not get indicted.

How much does this type of protection cost these days. In Mexico it is much cheaper, in Los Angeles it is commission nominees and mucho dinero para el paisano.

All of us bloggers should meet in a civilized setting and have a public debate.
Anyone care to meet face to face at City Hall during my lunch hour?

Let us meet here:

Los Angeles, CA 90012
Just name a day and time...I'll buy lunch from the Meruelo deals, or maybe from the LAUSD rip off fund, or Huizar's unopposed election funds.

Oh, that is sooooo funny...the last blogger is apparently an "in the know" personal friend of Ulisses. I met him, he is an ok person, but if he trashes on these blog sites as I was told my impression of him has changed.

Note: Villaraigosa.com is now recorded as taken, by one Ulisses Sanchez, of New Jersey Street, Los Angeles. Oddly, the two-year-old registration record, due to expire 11/04, did not show up in NetSol upon previous searches.
A Ulisses Sanchez is listed as webmaster for the Mexican American Political Association and has served as a Villaraigosa spokesman in the past

Ralph suggested Ulisses Sanchez as a possible webmaster. He is a recent transfer, but he will be studying abroad next quarter. Armando Sanchez was also suggested. Ralph asks for people to help out with the formation of the web page.

Jose Huizar is so out of touch with CD14 he's going around to community meetings trying to find out what's been going on so he can do some research. Jose is yet to say one damn thing he will do to improve the neighborhood. He has no clue degree or not. CD14 will be in big trouble if he gets in. JOSE NEVER WAS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY UNTIL NOW. Pacheco on the other hand was at community events all the time and kept in contact with many constituents. He truly showed people he cared about CD14. Jose is nothing more than a puppet for Antonio.
Does anyone know why Ulyssess Sanchez and Paul Hernandez were two of the few who didn't get promoted to city hall with the girl CD14 staffers for AV?

Who cares about the 500 signatures. I care about how many votes he gets.
Go Pacheco!!!

Topic is Huizar and Wesson...I vote for neither...I heard through the grapevine of City Hall that Antonio is fired up and extremely upset at one of his staffers. He is aware of the staffer who has been leaking information (rogue staffer), I hear it is a SHE...stay tuned and I will tell more when the time is appropriate. Otherwise, I will suffer deletion in the hands of the Mayors.

Chief Parker, we originally had 1 frickin day, and Villaraigosa screwed that up today be extending the contract.
He screwed us over, the votes were there, he got scared and jumped in to screw us all NO Sayers for sunshine dump.
Why wait 6 months, does he need more funds? The vote was going to be today and he killed it, he does not care about the people or the effects of having such a site near residents, why doesn't he move next door to the dump?

Mayor Ace Smith,

Chief P,
What happened last night?

There is a rogue staffer, they are feeding stuff to LA Observed and they will be discovered.

The rogue staffer was already named, the AV camp is in clear denial and are willing to gamble AV's future over this slut.

Laura Chick>> Olvera Street has been under-achieving and,
again, not because of the tenants and the business owners, but
because of the city not really managing it in the right way.
Anonymous said:
Laura, is Antonio managing anything the right way, the way YOU want it?
Anonymous said:
Can someone audit that bitch's office (laura chick), she has major coverups and is antonio's buddy.
Anonymous said:
Laura Chick has found that the tacos for sale at Olvera Street were actually made in China.
Anonymous said:
the bitch that leaked is doing chief parker, that is why he doesn't talk about it anymore

What a bunch of sissys!!! Parks is the ring leader and puppet for Antonio to put the extension on agenda today. Antonio is controlling their every move. Where's the leadership? No wonder the rest of the nation make fun of LA's city council. They are an embarrassement to this city. They act like children in chambers and its viewed citywide on tv. I cringe when I hear them.

anybody know who the Huizar endorsement press conf was for this morning?

Carvin was hired by the Controller’s Office in March 2002 as a special investigator to “examine irregularity, fraud and impropriety on the part of city employees and contract personnel.” His hiring appeared to mark a new direction by Chick, whose office is staffed primarily with auditors, who generally are not trained to develop cases for prosecution. With 35 years under his belt as a federal and local investigator, Carvin came highly recommended, and arrived with an eye toward examining alleged bill padding by private law firms hired by the city. But when he asked about the performance of the lawyers hired by the City Attorney’s Office to handle a major public-works lawsuit, he was fired within a matter of weeks.
