The 14th District City Council race has started not with a bang, but a whimper. Actually, it's more a complaint than a whimper, though it's the type of complaint that prefigures a lot of whining, name-calling, accusatory mailing and mudslinging.

The 14th, which includes portions of Downtown Los Angeles, is a wonderful but weird place, the kind of community Alice would have ended up in if she'd tumbled down a political rabbit role. The last person to represent the area, Antonio Villaraigosa, trampolined to the mayor's office, even though he was about as visible in the district as Casper the Charismatic Ghost, instead spending much of his tenure a) trying but failing to get John Kerry elected president, and b) trying and succeeding to get himself elected mayor.

I really want to support Huizar, but it seems he and his staff are prone to make mistakes. I'd like to see one week go by where they don't screw up.
Once it reaches 9:00 a.m, we'll see more activity on this site because that's when the government workers arrive to work. Between 9:00 to 3:00, there will be a flurry of post. Then, at 3:00 the government workers go home, having put in a solid 5 hours.

Too bad the CD14 election is being fixed by Antonio. Little Sleazy Huizy wouldn't have a chance. Antonio is using CD14 resources and staff to campaign hard for Jose. Lisa Sarno, Paul Hernandez, Ulyssess Sanchez are all pushing Jose to constituents which I think is illegal.
Someone tell Jose that his campaigners should NOT be wearing the same t-shirts he used when he was running unopposed for LAUSD board. They're so stupid they don't think people notice. I think that's a violation if Jose doesn't declare them. DUMB DUMB DUMB

Yeah, and Nick screwed them over so bad last time. Reduced crime rate, increased municipal services, effective youth alternative programs additional low income housing, and much more. All Parke Skelton did was launch four DA investigations against Nick - nothing remotely criminal coming out of these investigations. How exactly did Nick screw over people. He kept his campaign promises, unlike Antonio and Parke.
Antonio doen't want Nick to win because it will prove that his time in council was just a sham. It will prove he doesn't really have connections in CD14, just Latinos wanting to be part of history. And a Nick victory would erase any notion of the great brown hope that Parke has waited for his whole life.
oh yea, Nick was so great the people voted him out of office after just one term...IN THE PRIMARY! what a joker
Maybe what the previous poster (poli-tick) meant is that by being effective and hiring good staff, Pacheco screwed over VILLARAIGOSA'S people. Let's face it, AV's brain-dead field deputies from hell would have looked relatively competent had they followed Allatore's (snort, snort) people into office. But Pacheco's people raised the bar too high for AV's personal cheerleaders and CYA-specialists to even get a good look at. . .
People voted for Villaraigosa in 2003 on the "promise" that he would deliver and the "promise" that he would stay.
That's two strikes -- he did neither.
Now the promise is he'll run "clean" government.
Who's on deck!? They better get ready, because EVERY damn appointee by AV so far is a boot-licking campaign contributor from his mayoral campaign.

Sleazy Huizy is NO Villaraigosa.
He makes AV look lucid and informed by comparison (something even AV's slimy handlers couldn't do against Hahn in the debates).
It's been a couple weeks -- isn't it about time for Parke to make some lying scumbag ethics or criminal claim against Pacheco (like the false one he littered he 2003 race with) and waste another couple $100K of public money having downtown investigate Pacheco for violations nobody committed.
It's his stock-in-trade; watch for it... watch for it! It's got to come any day now, because double up on campaign contributions isn't going to undo Pacheco's 4 years of getting things done for the communities of CD14.
One large neighborhood council is STILL spending the "Pacheco" money he left behind for them for public improvements (and AV gave them SQUAT in 2 years).
9:58's claim is basic.
Villaraigosa beat Nick in 2003m and that's all that matters. AV's lies, failure to perform, and character assasination are all forgiven -- because he won.
Ends justify the means.
This is how we get "effective" leaders in the city. Reward the ones who tell the "best" lies.
Nick Pacheco, stop spending so much time blogging and start walking precincts.
Take Ricardo Torres, III and Eliseo Villanueva with you to show the people what success you can be with such stellar support.
Show them the sliming of Mayor Villaraigosa and the the recall of Councilmember Villaraigosa, and how you engineered both by skillful management.
You will then be rewarded with everything that you deservc.
Honesty is the best policy, and they need to know what kind of man you really are, so they can vote accordingly.
Start walking.
Huizar's third rate campaign staff are a joke. It is really CD14 staff, Jimmy Blackmon and Parke Skelton running this campaign. Huizar works from 9am to 8pm. Then he goes home and let's Team Villaraigosa do the work for him.
Sounds like Huizar is putting in a long day. He must want to win.

9:57 - Believe it or not, history matters. And the Pachuecos thought so too when they were young Molinistas, and when they had their own dreams of power and glory just two clicks ago. No doubt they'd like to believe it again if they could just measure up and finagle themselves back into the game. They sure don't like how they appear in history up to now, so they keep telling themselves and anybody who'll listen that it's all about the 'hood.

I loved the story about how Huizar told the downtowners he'd get on getting them paid that $60K for their BID money, ASAP (now that he's running for a council district that covers that area). Even though he's known about it for two years.
Maybe his advisors need to spend less time trying to slime Pacheco and figure out some way to dry joven-Jose off behind the ears and fit him for some long pants.

Pacheco "has" a four-year track record of delivering for the people of CD14 -- something they'll be reminded of often.
But, what DID Jose "have" that was near and dear to CD14's hearts and minds? An urgently needed school site at Taylor Yard... OOPS!
People weren't willing to punish ADV for what Richard Murelo did in stealing the school site -- too far removed from him. Huizar doesn't have that luxury. He held court over the hijacking, and is still asking "wha-wha-wha happened???"

The Pachuecos are running on sexual innuendo? That again? I know a lot of people in and out of the district who will take that pretty seriously.
You want to talk about a relevant rumor? How about sexual harassment by a certain soon-to-be ex-councilman a couple of years ago in a cafe, in the company of his thugs? He harassed and grabbed the waitress. His boys intimidated her pretty blatantly. She happened to be a student at Oxy and told a bunch of people about it. The Times had the story but didn't go with it because the girl would not go on the record. Certainly there are others that know about this.
Really, what more do you need to say to anyone with one-quarter of a brain.... (leaves ADV out).

Ruby is running for CD 14 and she used to work as a field deputy to Alatorre and some others. She's on the Glassel Park NC. She's a good person that has no money to run a race.
Ok, I got it. Don't blame the person at the top. The unfortunate truth is that he has to take blame.
You know, presidents have little control over the economy, but that didn't stop people from praising former President Clinton for the tech boom. The reality is you get credited/blamed for the good and the bad. The problem with the District is there only bad. Exhibit 1 - Caprice Young. Exhibit 2 - Julie Kornstein.
Exhibit 3 - Jose Huizar (plus, Jose baby sat Disrict 2, but didn't improve it).

The problem at LAUSD didn't start overnight yet Huizar has been there for five years. You'd think, as the only Latino on the Board, he could have come up with at least some ideas to keep kids in school. He never had any vision, other than high office and taking care of his friends. Once again Parke, you don't know your candidate - at least not as well as Nick does - your Torres blunder is proof of this.

Sleazy Huizy is going to have big problems at the debate when Pacheco hits him hard on the mess of LAUSD. Jose has already shown he doesn't know how to answer questions, stumbles and can't think on his feet. Antonio and the other clowns who endorsed him can't answer for him. Oh yeah, let's not forget the parents who are already talking about protesting Jose and his horrible record at LAUSD with protest signs. Jose is Antonio's BITCH plain and simple. The election is being fixed by Antonio. All anyone has to do is get any flyer going around CD14 which states "Antonio V as special guest along with Jose Huizar.

And yesterday's post (the last, as of this writing) touting an upcoming campaign volunteer rally contains two comments dinging the candidate - one for not declaring campaign-blogger and field coordinator Jennie Carreon-Lacey on the 12/31 quarterly financial report, and the other for not being smart enough to offer the site in Spanish:
How come there is not content in Spanish when the candidate is Latino, speaks Spanish and is running for mayor of a city where Latinos are about the be the mayority? There are a lot of Spanish-speaking Latinos who would like to read this information in Spanish and be able to give feedback in the language they feel comfortable with. Saludos!
