CD 14 Fundraising Totals
The latest rumors on the street have Pacheco raising approx $80,000 and Huizy at around $160,000. Official reports should be out soon.It shall be interesting to watch this race unfold. Huizy will need the money advantage to take Pacheco's name ID out. Pacheco keeps capitalizing on free LEGAL media. Yesterday's example was this which the Chief ran with.
While the move certainly does raise awareness, I'm not sure who it helps judging form the reaction we are seeing in the comments section.
However, the LA Times notes:
Later, to a reporter, Pacheco said: "My objection now is that public resources are being used to campaign for a particular candidate."
That's a serious allegation. There is heat in the kitchen. We'll see if the Chef's can take it.

Isn't that what Parke Skelton said about Nick, that he used public funds in 2003. None of the allegations were verified. Now these same guys are complaining that Nick is "crying" by making this same complaint. As a lawyer who passed the bar and former Assistant DA, you can bet that Nick has the proof on these allegations, something Parker never had in 2003.

In a previous thread, El Sereno - who everyine knows is Enrique Gasca, board member of the LA32 and all around brown noser - offers Nick some advice to keep getting signatures. Weren't you, Enrique, Quintanilla's campaign manager in 1999 in a similar CD 14 race. He had the endorsement of SEIU 347 and a virtual who's who of Latino politicians, yet he was disqualified for not getting enough signatures! And you're offering Nick advice?
And you also mention that Nick doesn't have Molina's and Roybal-Allards endorsement, I'm sure Nick is shaking in his boots. Molina is an albatross around Huizar's neck and Lucille Allard, as she was known before she ran for office in 1987 - hasn't lived in Boyle Heights or the district since 1961. She used the address on 6th Street for ten years and when that guy got cold feet, I'm sure you know the other address she used. Didn't the Mayor of Huntington Park go to jail for pulling the same stunt?
Tricky Nick's allegation is a lame joke. Evidence? Argument? You would never know he had legal training or prosecutorial experience. This is a piddling political gag by a candidate who should have better things to do.
The facts of his funneling public money to the same people who spent the same amount on a supposedly independent expenditure campaign on his behalf have never even been in dispute.
Enrique Gasca is LA32 member, I might imagine the irony in all of this. I will meet with him on the next meeting and debate his faulty points.
Nick again is able to get press and bring up a valid point. Although I'm leaning toward Huizar, Jose has not shown the same sort of energy that Nick has. Nick is everywhere right now and Jose is no where.
He's even skipping out on his Board meetings to attend campaign events (particularly unnerving when you consider the board was voting on a a bond to build schools).
^ That's why if I lived in CD 14 I would vote for Pacheco. He's clever.
Well, Little Sleazy Huizy Jose has shown the voters he has no balls. He's leaves his board meeting right before a crucial vote yesterday. Yet, he was at community meetings last night touting his endorsements of the sleaziest of them all Molina, Fabian, Antonio. Roybal Allard is not liked in the community because again another two faced politican. She campaigned hard for Nick in 2003 stating he was the best candidate for CD14 now turns around and wants Little Jose because of AV. She's given money to non profits who already get $$$$$ from gov't for her own agenda.
Sleazy Huizy admits in today's LA Times HE ADDED HIS NAME. Everyone knows CD14 staffers like Hernandez, Sarno, Ulyssess are all campaigning for Jose at community meetings. Very funny they didn't have those flyers with Jose's name on them at the community mtg last night. They sure had them at the Operation Yes Resource Fair over the weekend.
Ok, this only shows that Jose has support and Nick doesn't.
Nick's a man in his 40s, but you wouldn't know it from the high school level approach he and the Pachuecos take to politics. There's a hole in these guys' lives that they're trying to fill, something they missed or didn't get along the way. They don't even know that their maturation is somehow flawed and incomplete. Too much time in the hood, perhaps, talking to each other. Getting out to college didn't do the trick. Their minds are stuck back in high school -- and they don't even realize how they appear to the grown up world.

Sad that he needs all he can get cause no one knows him, parents are pissed that he mismanaged LAUSD funds, students hate him because he hasn't done crap about their schools, residents don't like him cause they now see him in the community and never did before. Antonio's CD14 staffers are gossiping about him and his indescretions. Didn't Jose get nailed for not obtaining a permit to do some construction work on his house?
say what you want about the maturity level of some of Nick's campaign tactics, at least the guy is causing a stir. i am honestly inclined to support huizar just because i think the northeast community needs some new energy, but jose's running a pretty lame campaign so far. he needs to let people know not just who he is but also what he stands for. until he does that, nick will continue to set the tone for the race, even if that tone makes us wonder if he's running for president of Eagle Rock HS... my advice to eric r.
La Colectiva, Mothers for Nick, CAL Inc. and Las Madres de ELA Santa Isabel--Juana Gutierrez (Not the real Mothers of ELA) are Nick's fundraising confidants.
I heard the same things about the permits.
Did the kids who worked for La Colectiva back in 2001 ever get paid completely for their work? I know that when Nick was running for re-election, the Mothers for Nick group (which I believe turned out to be a rebirth of La Colectiva) did some major fundraising for him. Just want to make sure that all those young made were paid for their hard work.

Amazing how the only thing the same old Antonio lovers know how to do is critize anyone who doesn't think, dress and act like them. LAME. You can't debate with them because they are uneducated and get emotionally charged and threatening. This is typical of anyone who follows AV. Damn it to donuts, AV used "public funds" every day he was running for mayor and months before that on his campaign -- all those "cleanups" in CD14 started almost exactly to the day he decided to punk Jim Hahn.
Every event, every district meeting, public funds for AV to be mayor, every damn day... for 8-9 months.
Time for some new rules, yokels, like when IPO companies have to go "quiet." Once you announce for another job, neither you nor your staff can do ANYTHING more to increase your visibility. period. Get your PR in before you have an opponent. Until that happens, campaign finance reform is a joke, and the incumbent (or anyone in local office) starts $1 million ahead.
NOW, lets talk about the huge newspaper ads scumbag Jose took out in CD14 when he was running UNOPPOSED for LAUSD board... just weeks before he announced he didn't REALLY want to try and fix the city's schools after all (doesn't pay enough).

Funny quote in a local paper last week. An AV supporter says "no difference in CD14 constituent service" now that AV is mayor.

1) There never WAS any constituent service, and,
2) AV never had anything to do with what they tried to PRETEND was constituent service.
PLEASE, we don't need an ADV-lite, like Huizar in 14 after two years of no-go, no-show, no-progress.
Huizar (also) has no accomplishments, no plans, no work on the community's behalf -- and HALF the charisma of godfather Antonio.

What about them? Paid for with campaign money thanking voters for their support of same said campaign. Where is the violation?
Are you saying that he violated some law by buying these ads? Was there a misprint somewhere? Did someone not get paid?
It's a moot point. There is NO point in disucssing this issue because no laws were violated.

Hey, El Sereeeeno... newspaper ads didn't thank ANYBODY. They had HUGE pictures of Huizar's face and said "Vote for this guy" (because no one else is running...??)
Don'tcha think MOST campaign contributors would have been just as happy to see those funds returned or go to some GOOD use, maybe in El Sereno, where AV's leftover staff STILL can't figure out how to fund a bus shelter for Hillside Village with the $1 million dollars they've been hording from that furniture fund for TWO YEARS???
Using funds given to elect you to a job you DON'T intend to stay in, in order to get people to notice you for ANOTHER job may not be "technically" an ethics violation, but it's about as shitty as a politician can get in terms of negating the public trust.
