Is Hahn Going to Pull a Villaraigosa?
Here's the setting. Hahn proposes tax increase to pay for cops. Councilman Smith proposes a way to get more cops without raising taxes. Villaraigosa takes credit in the last debate for the now "Villaraigosa-Smith" proposal. Hahn's proposal fails in Council.
So what do you do now if you are Hahn and you fail again today? Pull a Villaraigosa. Endorse the now "Villaraigosa-Smith" proposal and try to get it renamed the "Hahn-Villaraigosa-Smith" proposal...
If you think I'm out in left field on this one, read deeper into the Daily News story today:
Hahn tries to boost support for cop tax
Rick Orlov, Daily News
2/11/2005
One of those contacted was Councilman Greig Smith, a leading opponent of the measure.
"The mayor was very polite and acknowledged what the councilman had done," Smith spokesman Mitch Englander said. "The mayor didn't ask him to change his vote and the councilman wouldn't have anyway. The mayor said he was confident they could work together."
Smith, who has endorsed Hahn's re-election, has proposed the city hire more officers by borrowing against money it expects to get from the state through the vehicle license fee.
Anyone else want to pile on board?

Mayor Sam: You're dead wrong -your claim that Villaraigosa is trying to take credit for the plan is false. Read the legislation - Villaraigosa's name is on it.
Jim Hahn called the proposal "Sacramento style economics" and now he wants to support it. Give me a break.

He never made that claim - you are constructing a false proposition to bolster your false claim.

This morning Hahn is wiping off all that egg yolk that was smeared on the last few days. His campaign is in disarray. The potty mouth comments of his "spokespeople" where everything is muthaf***a this and Bit** that make him look like a complete and mind blowing and flaming jackass. He is running scared right about now.
Some big announcement is expected over the next 10 days regarding the pay-to-play scandal from the DA's office and/or the Justice Department.
Meanwhile Tovy V. has been making the rounds in the black community promising that if elected mayor he will, in his words "reign in the LAPD", while at the same time speaking on the West side that "we should let the investigation take its course".
Additionally, Hahn AND Bratton have decided to allow this tragic incident to mushroom some, so that when one of the planned protests go sideways, they will be able to hold up their hands and say "told you so". "We don't have enough Police Officers".
The fanning of the Anti-LAPD flames is presently in full gear and by the mid-to-end of next week, expect some visible discontent.
It is sad and tragic that an incident such as this is being used by Hahn and Bratton to further their political ambitions.
Also, next week, Hahn is expected to announce $100,000 rewards to all black kids killed by cops. (Hey, if it gets him a couple of votes....), while Bratton will work hard to alienate some additional members of the city council. Real smart Bill. Sort of cutting off your nose to spite your face. At which time LAFD Chief "Farklempt" Bamattre will speak about "the children knowing what dead bodies look like". C'mon Bamattre, you are so full of shit. If bullshit was electricity, you'd be a power station.
The rank and file ALPD officers are embarrassed by your statements of "the city will go up in flames" etc. Is that what you really think of the 1000's of officers that bust their asses everyday to make you look good? Are you allowing your true colors to show? Its pathetic. Someone should finally have the courage to say "The emperor has no clothes on".
And your partner Bamattre. What a loser! Let's all remember Tim McOsker, Hahn’s Chief of Staff and UFLAC President Pat McOsker (His brother and LAFD Union Chief), meeting with the mayor on January 12th. Here is a press release issued by the Fire Union about that meeting:
______________________________________________________________________
January 12, 2005
UFLAC President Pat McOsker met with Council President Alex Padilla on Tuesday January 11th, and Mayor Hahn and his Chief of Staff Tim McOsker on Wednesday January 12th regarding a public safety dedicated ½ cent sales tax measure being proposed for the May 2005 citywide ballot. In both meetings President McOsker presented Local 112’s priorities for inclusion in the ballot language, and he relayed the necessity of including those priorities in order to receive the endorsement and support of Local 112 in May.
For the record, our priorities items include Inside Firefighter staffing increases, the upgrading of ambulances to Paramedic status, conversion of V-staffed ambulances to full-time status, and OCD personnel increases. Both meetings were productive and UFLAC will continue to lobby this issue. Ballot language will be finalized in the near future for presentation to City Council prior to the January 26th cut-off date for May 2005 ballot inclusion.
They basically turn to Bamattre and lay it out to him that he will get on-board this “Shaft the Taxpayer Gravy Train” whether he wants to or not. As we all know the Fire and Police unions control the purse strings at the Mayor’s office. I believe he was promised “something extra” in his weekly envelope if he really gave it his best. Boy did he try. I believe the City’s EIDC is submitting a complaint and bill to the LAFD, since the proper acting permits by these clowns (HAHN-BRATTON-BAMATTRE) was not filed.
And get this, Roberta Yang, yeah, the one that is “working on the campaign” “FULL TIME”, is actually running all over city hall twisting arms for votes with empty promises of glory. At a meeting this past weekend, she gets up and “Assure you (Hahn) that we have this in the bag”. Mayor Sam and Chief Parker, the yelling you heard was true. She is a shitload of hurt, right about now.
Start the Titanic music….
We’re going down….

DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WORK IN CD14 FIELD OFFICES:
Ordure: "excrement" -- (Oh shit, what was I thinking, you already knew that one. Tony V.'s been having you provide ordure-y constituent service since you were bussed into the area 20 months ago).

The Fly is full of shit. Bratton wld never use this tragedy asshole. You obviously don't know him well. Antonio claimed credit for Smith's proposal the day it was approved by council. remember everyone when he put out that pres release with his name on it? Interesting you're not saying anything about Bitter Bernie who well Chief did absolutely nothing to help with the Black community. Now all of a sudden he decides maybe he should act black cause he's running for Mayor. Those assholes in council who didn't give 557,000 people who voted for measure A a choice to make need to get booted out of chambers. I hear the Eastside is really pissed with ADV and he can say bye bye to that vote. They are spreading the word all the way to the Westside.

We keep hearing that-- "10 more days til someone's indicted"... when and who???
Anonymous said:
Leland Wong and Ted Stein are singing like canaries trying to outblame the other guy for all of this.
If its Stein that gets indicted the impact is even worse for Hahn -- especially with his daughter and his wife all basically calling Hahn "boss"
Go Indictments!
