Los Angeles Politics for Tuesday

Lots of fun stuff in the race to succeed now Congresswoman Janice Hahn in her vacated CD15 seat. The latest is an unconfirmed report posted by one of our readers that the firefighters union executive board split 3-3 on an endorsement of their President, Pat McOsker, for the Council seat. With the panel deadlocked, McOsker claimed the right the cast the deciding vote. If true, this would be a shocking display of hubris by a wannabe elected official.

A USC report states that Los Angeles' economy and business climate can prosper if the City were to drop it draconian business tax scheme.  Blogger Paul Hatfield argues instead for a flat income tax and elimination of the sales tax. History has shown that when taxes are reduced, the economy prospers and government revenue increases.

Minority groups are jockeying to gain legislative districts drawn to allow more of their lot to be elected to office, as the State's redistricting commission wraps it's work. African Americans are finding that their shrinking numbers viz a viz rapidly growing Latino populations could foreclose on several elected officials. It seems to me that the color or ethnicity of a legislator should not matter.  On the other hand, the new maps might put hard core liberal Democrats such as Maxine Waters and Karen Bass in jeopardy of losing so maybe it's all good.

just what we need is another union suck up to stick the residents of LA with another anchor around their neck. Can anyone imagine how this city even stays afloat?

The membership of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11 got duped when their President (a McOsker labor buddy)gave a premature endorsement.

Even the Fire union (Bell-FLAC) doesn't want to endorse their own guy and that dipstick agreed. Now he can't take it back and the DWP must be fuming! That's a big oops!~

Typical Pat McOsker. I will get my way no matter what. The majority of his own Executive Board does not want to endorse him so he calls a special meeting and has a vote when one of the dissenting members is out of town at a brush fire and the other dissenting member is off duty injured. McOsker then has the hubris to cast the tiebreaking vote. Can you say CONFLICT OF INTEREST?. Leopards dont change their spots. The citizens of the good 15th Council District should do everything they can to see that this rube is not elected.

Hubris display, yes.

Shocking? No.

What exactly would you have expected of him? The man has no shame.

If he is elected, it will signify that the LA Council has finally hit rock bottom. What the heck, it has been a long time coming, while the spiral downwards continued.

Perhaps if he loses, they will get the drift and finally cut him loose. He is radioactive and can do no further good for our brave and wonderful firefighters.

They deseve better.

WHO ENDORSED OR PLANS ON VOTING FOR THESE PEOPLE. THERE LIES THE ANSWER. DON'T JOIN THE BRIGADE!! FURTHERMORE, TELL OTHERS NOT TO JOIN TOO!! AS I'VE ALWAYS SAID IT WILL TAKE REAL ORGANIZATION OF STACKHOLDERS, BUSINESS OWNERS, TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND ALL THE OTHER GROUPS WHO ARE HIRT BY THIS BY THIS TAX,FEE AND SPEND GOVERNMENT. THE NEW LEADERS WHO RUN AGAINST THEM MUST OPEN THE DOORS OF COMMUNICATION TO THE PUBLIC TO FIND ALL THE PROBLEMS AND LEARN THE SOLUTIONS. IT'S CALLED DEMOCRACY AND EMPOWERMENT SOMETHING NONE OF YOU OR YOUR PARENTS HAVE EVER SEEN IN THIS COUNTRY. WE GET PROPAGANDA THAT'S OUR GOD!!
