Friday Free for All
I'm back. Yet another visit to the Pacific Northwest with the added opportunity to avoid YAWNmageddon.
Now that Janice Hahn is going to Congress, the fight begins for her seat with yet another special election. While I don't have a horse in this race, it appears that firefighter union head Pat McOsker is quickly becoming the bloggers' favorite to be the whipping boy of this race. McOsker, part of a politically connected family equally known for it's salty and surly aggressiveness as for it's dominance on the LA political scene, is already showing a need for anger management therapy. Street Hassle reports that McOsker gave an expletive laden retort to questions as to his ability to simultaneously helm the union and run for Council. In the meantime, anonymous detractors of McOkser have started a blog and apparently endured the wrath of McOsker's brother, Mike.
A case involving gadfly Matt Dowd may have further exposed failings in City Attorney Carmen Trutanich's office. The prosecutor is going after Dowd, according to Zuma Dogg, for "standing in the wrong place."The prosecutor, as noted by the LA Dragnet blog, is claiming that Trutanich's reassigning of attorneys to his pet projects has strained the department and added to workloads necessitating the prosecutor to request more time from the judge to prepare.
Valley Village must not want Mike Gatto as their Assemblyman. Residents there are protesting a section of the suburban blue haired burg being attached to North Hollywood as part of the work of the state redistricting commission.
Speaking of Gatto, the astro-turf blog dedicated to him, the Burbank Blogger, seeks to fan the flame between the 43rd District Assemblyman and one of his legislative enemies, Anthony Portatino.
John Dancler, an employee of the City's Department of Transportation for 23 years has been fired for appearing in a porn film wearing his DOT uniform. He's appealing.
And finally, you can show your support for the Southwest Museum, under attack from the Autry Western Heritage Museum (or whatever Jackie is calling it this week), by attending a soda tasting at the legendary pop store, Galcos.

So Higby, Mayor Sam has added beloved City Attorney Carmen Nuch Trutanich to it's hit list of political enemies by linking to a purely gratuitous attack from a disgruntled former employee? That's a new low.
The fuss over "the Martin Declaration" has been blown out of all proportion and now will be used by the City Council to strengthen their case to hire private attorneys to do the jobs that Trutanich doesn't want to do.
You've been used.

the main point of all this is that there were 10 court appearances in total, before convicting this infraction, then the appeal process began, notices, statement on appeal, opening brief, then 2 one month extensions by City for respondent brief, waiting for oral argument now, and all because Dowd's bike and guitar case were standing on the Venice sidewalk at 8.45a.m. when expression 'starts' at 9 am. ps. Dowd was not at the location at the time. he was waiting elsewhere.
now you tell me, is this what the PEOPLE of California wanted?

Wow there is one person who still supports Carmen?
When all of your buddies and favorable bloggers turn direction, something has to be wrong.

7:20: Who has been used. No one put anyone up to any of this. Matt Dowd showed me the document. I found it shocking and asked for a copy. I sent it to Los Angeles Dragnet and Mayor Sam. We all thought the memo is hilarious and makes Trutanich look like the loser that he is. So we all LOVE it. No one was used. But Trutanich looks dumb. Council had nothing to do with this. It's just that people know a good joke when they see on. (THAT MEMO.)

The profanity laced rant and verbal attack on a fellow brother union member by council candidate Pat McOsker is absolutely true. On a side note is anyone concerned or does anyone care that Pat McOskers brother Mike is an integral part of the McOsker campaign? The concern centers around ethics and integrity. Mike McOsker retired from the Los Angeles Fire Department on a tax free disability pension for an alleged back injury. Mike McOsker was also investigated for Workers Compensation fraud. Mike was then hired by his brother Pat to work at the firefighters union as a "business representative" for an $85'000 salary. Does anyone think that this ethical or right? History repeats itself and we need to learn from it. The cronyism and unethical behavior will continue in city hall should McOsker get elected. Caveat Emptor

Are you suggesting because someone is on disability in extremely their physically demanding job as fire fighter that running a political campaign proves fraud? And what's the big deal about someone having their brother run the campaign? I don't know anything about any of this, one way or the other, but seems like people are just looking for stuff to turn into controversy.

Why does this blog keep referring to the salary someone is paid for their job? Should all jobs just pay minimum wage or whatever you are making? Should Pat McCosker turn down the salary or ask for it to be cut? Isn't the salary out of union dues, anyway? Maybe you should petition the union to reduce the salary, if you feel it is too much. Or just use it for some political agenda. Do you think anyone is affected by your conspiracy theories?

Matt Dowd and David 'Zuma Dogg' Saltzburg are blights on society. They bitch moan and complain, file frivilous law suits and drain the city of much needed resources.

The point I was trying to make about the McOskers is that they are unethical, greedy and arrogant. They have used the good name of the Firefighters union for their own personal gain to the detriment of the 3500 plus loyal union members. The main issue firefighters have with McOsker is that McOsker will not step down from his position as Union President while he campaigns for City Council. Our union dues pay for him to be a full time President. When a member asked if he would step down, he verbally attacked that member. No class. A candidate for City Council should have the highest ethics and integrity. Pat McOsker and his brother have proven otherwise to the members of United Firefighters of Los Angeles. What they have done that is illegal and unethical would fill a book. Do you really want a City Councilman with that type of record?

2:40pm,
I only know of one lawsuit. The one they won in Federal court. Do you know how hard it is to get a Federal Judge to even accept a case? And then they prevailed, so hard to call it frivolous.
And when you say they are draining city resources, well now, you're just trying to make them feel good.
Matt Dowd said:
yes, the lawsuit was sooo frivolous that a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against the whole City of LA permit and lottery system at venice, because it violated the FIRST amendment to the constitution of the United States. I think thats the thing you live and breathe under, so yeah, sorry to be a blight on a society thats violating rights. its foundation stuff here. and yes, we drained half a million, so far, and Council approved commissioners who drained the whole pension fund for billions, and caused half the City to be fired. yeh, we're the drain on resources.... such a great comedy post 2.40pm. how about the attorneys draining resources chasing an infraction conviction for two years. its a $100 fine. what are they nuts?

I worked with a lot of the Deputy City Atty's.
In addition to Trutanich being a lousy manager, Martin is one of the laziest and most inefficient of all the DCA's I have worked with.
She is also dismissive to community members.

Being a city hall denizen, there is one thing, I can guarantee that most of the employees aren't worth the tax-payer funded wages they collect. If it was upto me, I'd fire 75% of the work force. Most are lazy, over-paid sobs, starting with LAPD & LAFD.
