Longtime Gil Cedillo Staffer Arturo Chavez Announces 45th Assembly District Run
Will Chavez face off against Silver Lake Resident Assemblyman Mike Gatto and others in a newly drawn East LA District?
Arturo Chavez, this is your time.
After being passed over by the powers to be during some past "power meeting" at Getty House, longtime political staffer and former husband of Cynthia Ruiz, has taken ownership of his political destiny. In a email to community members, Chavez is seeking support and cash for his quest to replace Assemblyman Gil Cedillo.
If the current draft for the newly drawn district gets approved without major revisions, current 43rd AD Assemblyman Mike Gatto's (mom) Silver Lake home would be within the boundaries, setting up a possible primary challenge. Other names mentioned as possible candidates include Luis Lopez.

Noone cares.
Gatto will beat Chavez hands down. Cedillo wouldn't be much help against another Skelton barrage. And Skelton would add another notch to his record of taking down Latino seats.
Hope Gatto chooses to stay in the 43rd. We as a party have finally united behind him and hope that he will continue to serve the district he currently represents.

The district is going to be wiggiwamed. There's a nice, friendly Latino (not Arturo, sorry) in the wings.
Paul has not forgotten what Gatto did to him. Nor have his friends. Karma.
If Mike Gatto moves to Glendale, Burbank or Pasadena...he will not be welcomed with open arms.
Perhaps Gatto can move in with his "mentor" Brad "the doofus" Sherman and run against Berman in 2014, after Berman kicks Sherman's ass in 2012.
Gatto can pay Sherman the same rent he's paying his mommy right now.

I always liked Chavez, but if Red Spot is for him (and it sounds like he is), then I gotta look around some more.

Arturo is a great progressive and pro-labor candidate. He has experience, knows the district, has lived in the district most of his life, and is well known in the district. He has also put together a strong campaign and is getting the support and funding he needs to win this election.
Gatto will lose the campaign against Chavez if he decides to run against Chavez.
