Do we need a "Mini Monica" on the LAUSD Board of Education?
LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia
Monica Garcia's Chief of Staff Luis Sanchez
Do the citizens of Los Angeles Unified School District's Area 5 deserve a union-back candidate in Bennett Kayser or School Board President Monica Garcia's Chief of Staff Luis Sanchez? Kayser is a veteran of past LAUSD elections, losing to out-going District 5 School Board Rep Yolie Flores-Aguilar in 2007. Sanchez is the latest "anointed one" via the Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa/ Councilman Jose Huizar faction in Boyle Heights.and served the Mayor well as an Recreation and Parks Commissioner.
More after the Jump.
In addion to Sanchez and Kayser, two other candidates former UTLA Endorsee John Fernandez and Mt. Washington Education Advocate Scott Folsom, who is running as a write-in candidate, make it a strong possibility that this race goes to a runoff.
And if this race does goes to a runoff in May, who has the advantage? The LA Weekly's Mara Meinicoft leans towards Kayser with his UTLA support and as former LAUSD Board Member David Tokofsky states that the strong mayoral influence is a concern, "Sanchez has not distinguished himself from the mayor's machine."
Thus, do we need an "Mini Monica" who acts as a Garcia/Huizar/Villaraigosa's puppet?
Your thoughts..............

Luis Sanchez has missed several forums in the community. He does not have community support and even stated he would raise property taxes. Luis Sanchez has never been a teacher. Never!!!! Check out the video that represents Sachez. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1B4Ty44t2M
Put the video on your Facebook and send it to all of your friends tonight. Mayor Sam, I hope you can put the video on the site.
If you don't want to vote for Kayser, vote for Fernandez. Anyone But Sanchez. ABS, ABS!!!

As a young Latino, I never thought I would recommend support a non-Latino against a young Latino with a good education. Now that we have Latinos in public office, we can also get them out and be more mature. luis Sanchez would be bad for our children. He has lied about his job and has avoided community forums in the Southeast. If you are in Northeast LA, please do not vote for Luis. We know him. He would be horrible. Please don't vote for Luis.

You are correct Anonymous 9:50. He was at a fund raiser last Friday during the only NE forum held. All three other candidates showed up, he did not. It is shameful and disrespectful to the entire community.
Earlier, at the El Sereno forum he made fun of another candidates disability. How can we trust him to care for IEP students, or any child? No way.
do not vote for Luis.
Great video. Lean like a Cholo...

I have the same name and am not the candidate:
I don't know why people who have never taught in schools, or have not taught recently even want to be on the school board. Also, if they are not ever going to teach, why do they want to bad mouth and blame teachers without adequately providing support with student accountability or student discipline. Also, why does the public even consider voting for these people, and make teachers the enemy and blame them for the corrupted system. The system allows for kids to fail and be promoted to the next grade level. This is a grave tragedy which encourages irresponsibility. Imagine if kids were held accountable in earlier grades. Imagine kids not thinking they can go to school do nothing and be promoted. Our students would do so much better. Our society would be so much better.

I BELIEVE IN TEACHERS NOT POLITIANS RUNNING OUR SCHOOLS,WHO BETTER. WE ALSO NEED ENGINEERS AND TECHNICAL PEOPLE WHO CAN BRING IN NEW IDEAS AND ACTIVATE THE MINDS OF ALL STUDENTS WITH PROGRAMS THAT RE-ENFORCE EDUCATION AND GIVE THEIR LIVES A MISSION.
