The Cleen Sweep mailer is a classic mis-fire. This is what some Republicans in Woodland Hills think of when they infrequently deign to imagine our communities. Frightening, garbage strewn, crime ridden.
It is not what the residents of CD14 see. They take pride in their neighborhoods, which, overwhelmingly, are neat and well maintained working and middle class communities of people working for a better future for their families. I, one longtime CD14 resident, am offended by their patronizing depiction of my community. Mr. Kaye, I do not aspire to live in Encino. Not for one minute.
Wow. Just got back from walking for Huizar for get out the vote. There were hundreds of volunteers and I think they covered every single precinct in the district. A lot of people not home on a nice sunny day, but everyone I talked to was holding firm for Councilman Huizar. And by the way, I did not see a single Martinez volunteer anywhere, all day.

Volunteer?!! That's a laugh - city hall staffs will be able to take a day off next week - so technically they are paid and you must practice blind faith to believe that labor is out volunteering - they also get paid.
The last true community mobilization that Huizar saw was when he was supporting Nick.
WTF? Team Huizar being told to post. 2:23pm a groupie of Huizar who has no conscience and obviously lives some place other the Boyle Heights. There are illegal vendors, graffitti, blight on every block. You would think you're in TJ. I'm Latino and insulted that our Latino politicians have failed their own people. Why is it that Eagle Rock doesn't have illegal vendors and so many garage sales, men working on cars putting oil all over sidewalks and streets? Both pay the same taxes. 2:23pm YOUR COMMUNITY LOOKS LIKE SHIT. Like Charlie Sheen you're in denial. Every newspaper has had stories on the issues. Even the union who endorsed Huizar didn't give as much as they gave others like the $1 million the candidates like Hogan-Rowles, Englander and LaBonge, CaArdenas got from them. Negative publicity is what people read and see. Huizar has had more negative publicity then Martinez. Refuses to answer where $1.5 million CLARKS $$ went. Voting to supporting all DWP motions. Lapdog to Failure of Mayor, Missing in Action, called the "laziess" councilman by LA Weekly.
I, too, am a long time resident of CD14, 2:23, and while I also have no desire to move to Encino, I am not pleased with the progress in our district. Don't you see the graffiti? Don't you see the unlicensed street vendors? I don't see those in Encino and I don't want them in my district.
It's my community, too, 2:23, and there is a lot to improve.
Just received the Huizar mailer "Knows Every Child Deservers the Opportunity to Attend College". Is he running for School Board? Someone needs to remind him what job he's running for...
As a Councilmember I don't think that's one of the budget items you would be voting on?????

I agree about the street vendors and grafitti in Boyle Heights. Although I see it everywhere in the district. I like to visit restaurants in Boyle Heights. But the past few years, it just doesn't seem safe with all the vendors and grafitti everywhere you look! Not to mention how dirty and shabby the business district has become. THe sidewalks are so dirty. It's scary to see these vendors in neighborhoods when you are going to visit family and friends. It would drive me crazy to hear those bells ringing all day long as they walk the neighborhood. It's quality of life issues that are not being handled. I don't feel safe to get out of my car anymore. Jose may live there, but he has a very big wall around his house... I wonder why?

Got a mailer on Saturday which has pics of the Team Huizar groupies who are the do nothings in the community. Out of the 80 Fake Neighborhood Watches why did only 1endorse Huizar and their faces on his mailer. Its shocking how lame and uneducated people can be. The fact is for Huizar being the incumbent he only received a measley $76,000 from the unions that endorsed him. Doesn't look as if they had high hopes for their candidate when compared to Chris Essel who lost her election and the unions poured $$$$ for her campaign. 2:23pm is sadly one of those saps who sees the blight in Boyle Heights and like Huizar turns a blind eye. 2:23pm should be upset Huizar has turned the community into Tijuana, Cairo, Bagddad looks better and cleaner then the mess Huizar has brought in. 68% of population thanks to Huizar is ILLEGALS NOW. Don't forget the drunks and loud parties with the quincereas because illegals don't care about our laws and don't get a permit for a hall they the events in their backyards.
My neighbor lived in another district, he's lived here for the past five years... His old neighborhood streets have been repaved two times since he moved. I think that says it all...
Start spending our tax dollars where it's suppose to be spent on public safety and city services (i.e. streets, sidewalks, lighting, stop signs, traffic signals, etc). This is the entire problem with these city councilmembers and the mayor. They just don't get it!
Over 200 people were volunteering for Huizar over the weekend, to get out the vote.
If Rudy Rich had 2 dozen, I'd be AMAZED.

The Clean sweep m ailers were not mailed out broadly and are being sent much too late to have any effect.
Judging from the size of their IE filing, it's only being sent to only the "regular voter" batch of 10,000 or so -- many of which have already voted.
Wasted money, but that's pn them.
In three days time (with only two days left) the "visdeo" as Scostt Johnslon calls it, by Clean Sweep has been viewed just over 200 times, most likely the majority of these were people who were already Huizat haters.
YUP, that'll pull Rudy up to "force Huizar into a runoff" as the daft and politically out-of-touch Doug McIntyre mentions in his Daily News article. (snicker, snicker)
(Um, Dougie. CIVICS 101.) When there are ONLY two candidates on the ballot, there's absolutely NO chance of a runoff. Did you study MATH with Red Spot. American Institutions with Jennerjahn?)

I tried to go volunteer at Huizar's El Sereno office today (phone calls, door hangers, whatever was needed...) They had so many volunteers, they sent me and several others away with an apologetic "thanks anyway"). By 1 p.m., there were so many volunteers, they had nothing left for any new ones to do.
All precincts covered, all phones fully booked. In ONE weekend, the weekend that matters most for day-of polling.
And, just to recap, and compare-- just a week or so ago, Rudy Martinez told the LA Weakest newspaper that, after walking the districts precincts for several months, they had still about half to go.
Rudy's volunteers (friends and family) had covered only half the district in several months.
Huizar GOTV volunteers -- same territory, fully canvassed in one weekend.
Sorry, Scott Johnson, Clean Sweep LA, etc. and all the other blamers and haters.
Huizar is reelected Tuesday, with a double-digit lead. Guaranteed.
(In the end, it really didn't matter who was running his campaign -- just who HE was and what he's done).

Only 200 on GOTV weekend? Not quite a Grass Roots movement, is it? I remember capaigns were over a 1,000 people would show up.
No My Name Is Michael - what kind of dumbass campaign would send volunteers away. Cesar Chavez always said that if you have to have volunteers cut confetti, put them to work cutting paper - just don't send them home because then they are devalued and the effort of the campaign is diminished. Huizar's campaign should have had those "extra" volunteers cleaning off the eggs of Huizar's billboards.
Thanks, you just told us why Wendy didn't do her job and audit CLARKS FUND and why Jose spent our tax dollars to go to Princeton and Mexico... Maybe we should start researching her and the job she does as our City Controller. You have to audit everyone, not just your enemies... Is she using this job to crush her opponents for Mayor? I think we need to watch her... If she was there helping Jose today, than we have a problem with her... We are asking for transparency, he and his staff have not given it to his district... If she thinks he's behavior has been ok then I concerned about her...

7 people will be vying for the Mayor position. Wendy Greusome will have a rude awakening. There are so many people pissed off that she's done a lousy job as Controller everyone will be campaigning AGAINST her and any incumbent like, Jan "AEG" Perry, Eric "Come out of Closet" Garcetti, Austin "Corrupt" Beutner. I know who is going to be the People's Hero and its none of the mentioned. And to the lame ass who says Huizar had 200 volunteers yesterday a lot were students. Did they get paid? The power of the internet is what its all about.

Rudy Rich would have given another 100K or his left nut to have 200 people pounding the pavement for him, even students, even paid, last weekend of ANY weekend.
But he has no support.
When Rudy had his mama's stolen lists from Huizar's offices and the opportunity to trawl for 500-600 community leaders, he FAILED miserably.
No backup, no support.
As far as the "power" of the Internet... Rudy's "Youtube" videos have been viewed by 200 people at most in months (there's that "200" number again).
His subscription-required e-mails lists that he sends lame e-messages to - between 300-400 names, no more. Most already committed to vote for him... NO net gain.
Almost half the actual voters in the district don't even have a readily accessible e-mail; this is still one of the most digitally divided areas of town. NOT conducive at ALL to a "grass roots" online campaign.
Rudy's Website (and Huizar's too for that matter), are static billboards that attract hardly anyone. Most areas of them haven't been updated in months, since they were first launched. The read like the same slick mailers that have been scanned and left to rot. Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Pros like Huizar and Parke Skelton use snail mail heavily because it is STILL the only universal means of reaching every possible voter.
They use it because it works. They use it - MUCH better than Rudy's dirty alley mailers - because it has provided Huizar with landslide victories TWICE for City Council, EACH time over someone BETTER known than Rudy.
Each time over someone who HAD a track record of service to CD14 (Rudy's only "record" in the district is the one that contains 4 CRIMINAL convictions, and fleeing the scene of a crime).
BUH bye Rudy, and even better BUH bye "Martinez Family" posters here - but I'm sure Red Spit will welcome all 5 of you continuing to bash Huizar here for the next 4-8 years, while he decides whether to run for mayor in 2017.

Also, CD14's demographics skew towards younger people much more so than the city at large.
What truly is sad is hypothetically if Huizar wins the constituents are no better off and all the bad negative publicity of Huizar will still be in the minds of a hell of a lot of people who wanted him out. If Rudy wins then its fresh eyes and more of a passion not to be lazy and be in the community unlike Huizar. Huizar can't ignore there are many who opposed him. They will be nailing him every chance they get at meetings all over the district. This is why Huizar can't go anywhere with at least 15 of his staffers and calling anyone who can show up with him. He lacks the character to stand up like a man

Oddly enough, it's been Rudy Rich who's been the coward in this race - from day one.
Hiding the real details of his criminal past, being unwilling to discuss why he fled an LAPD investigation into his wrongdoing as a volunteer there, and most recently ducking out of the "clean fight" challenge he agreed to at the Eagle Rock forum.
Mr. Martinez has waffled and equivocated on every policy stance, and has no "plan" for the next 4 years.
The entire district would suffer greatly under such an amateur approach from such a dishonest man.
$180,000 a year should not be trained to community service "trainees" with questionable pasts and unplotted futures.
Even his supporters can't tell you what he's "FOR" - only what he's "AGAINST" (i.e., Jose Huizar).
CD14 is not so impoverished in leadership that we need to step so very far down as to elect supposedly "rehabilitated" criminals, who only just a few years ago refused to cooperate with a valid police investigation into their own actions.
As Rudy's own campaign literature says... "we deserve better" -- but Rudy Rich is NOT better. And he's said or done nothing that would convince any intelligent, rational person that he can even BECOME better given 4 years to do so.
