LA Politics and Donuts for a Saturday

The Clean Sweep campaign gets its first candidates' forum off the ground this afternoon.  Among the candidates confirmed are not only Phil Jennerjahn and Stephen Box in CD4 (worth the price of admission alone) but the only incumbent with the cahones to show up, Bernard Parks, and his Betty Pleasant appointed opponent, Foreskin Hogan Family or something like that, a previous campaign ethics violator.  Despite that nearly most of the candidates who are showing up are koo-koo for cocoa puffs Clean Sweep did make a very good move in snagging local reporters Michael Linder and John Schwada as moderators.

A funny thing happened on Mitch Englander's way to get anointed as the next Clowncilman from CD12. Ali Wolter reports that popular community activist Kelly Lord has filed to run.  Now Lord will have to convince us he's going to raise money, build an organization and not just run a vanity campaign but it appears that voters tired of the status quo and the special interests may have an alternative in Lord.

Jose Huizar wants the City to run all elections almost entirely by mail. Tell me how that isn't an invitation to fraud.

Any of you carpetbaggers who want to move to a new district to run for City Clowncil next year better move there and get completely moved in by October 9th.  Otherwise Steve Cooley will come and slap a felony charge on you.

Phil Jennerjahn spends the night with Meg Whitman.

Last year I got an invite to the blogger prom. This year no one from Mayor Sam did though I'm certain we have a larger readership than most of the blogs invited. However when I recently referred to "The Midnight Swin" as a place where "hedonistic, narcissistic, brain dead young people engage in self-aggrandizing stupid events." I think the blogger who wrote about that event blackballed me.  She runs the Blogger Prom.  Kind of a head cheerleader for the nearly thirtysomething set.

Hey, don't blow my appearance out of proportion.

I already told Clean Sweep that because of my work, I'll probably be an hour late for the event.

Everyone should read Ron Kaye's post about AB 2531 - special legislation for CRA/LA that would give the agency power to spend funds OUTSIDE the boundaries of a redevelopment area.

Great! Let's ship tax increment from Boyle Heights to the Hollywood Hills.

Read the comments on Ron's site! People are really upset. Let's all call and fax the governor to ask that the bill be vetoed.

Why are you rehashing Phil's article and Ali's article? You already posted about them!

But I have to agree that the concept of watching a ultra serious guy like Parks, who is perenially on the verge of losing an election (see: Thomas, Mark Ridley) and Phil, who is perenially a last place loser, on the same stage sound riotous.

But I refuse to clap or ask any thoughtful question of either.

And with all due respect to Aly, I haven't seen anything worthy from her yet. She writes as if the blog is the Community News. She's certainly articulate, but there's no substance in anything I've yet seen from her. Stiff.

They're letting Phil "Last Place" Jennerjohn at the event?

I wonder if he is going to play cowboy with his stupid 10 gallon hat and belt buckle, or play dress up in daddy's suit, when he squeaks with his high pitch voice.

Prediction: Steven Box will get AT LEAST 1,000 votes more than Phil, and both will lose by at least 5,000 votes, and probably much more, to idiot Tom LoBinge.

Phil, are you gonna regale the Clean Sweep crowd with stories of how you spent the $200,000 that you CLAIMED you raised for the recall, yet you can't explain how you didn't get out a single mailer?

I hope if anyone going there today is reading this that you challenge Phil on that.

Also ask him how he got the $10,000 he needed to enter the World Series of Poker.

After I hounded Phil with this question, Phil "changed the story" (read: covered his ass) by saying that he only entered a satellite.

BULLSHIT, PHIL! That's not what you originally wrote. Where did you get the money for the $10,000 gambling buy in and the rental of a "sweet Mustang?"

I think with your writing about your gambling exploits all over the web, you MAY have a gambling problem. And any gambler who claims that they're ahead in their life is either already on TV as an expert or just lying about their losses. To deny this is to be an addict.

Someone is obsessed with Phil.

So, Higby, you DON'T think it's odd that Phil said, if I recall correcting (perhaps the commenter remembers more clearly where it is on this blog):

"I raised (for the Recall) fifty times what Ron Kaye raised ($4,000) at the first Clean Sweep meeting."

Those are Phil's own words.
That's $200,000.
If Phil was lying, which we know he often does, then he is a liar.
But if Phil was NOT lying, then he needs to account for the $200,000 and explain how it was applied.

You're telling us that you don't find it alarming that he doesn't have a pot to piss in; doesn't own a car; doesn't have a regular or decent income for a guy who SAYS he went to graduate school, but JUST BEFORE HE PUTS THE RECALL ON ICE, he says he rented a car to go play in the WSOP in Vegas? And then, after asking him about this for months, he tells us it was "only a satellite!"

Bullshit!

You're not alarmed by this?

Our putting the pressure on Phil to either admit he lied, or to explain where the money went IS NO DIFFERENT THAN YOUR ENDLESS ATTACKS ON BETTY; PHIL'S ENDLESS ATTACKS ON BOX, LABONGE OR ALARCON, AND ZUMA & DOWD'S ATTACKS ON WHOEVER.

It's not like I made this up.

These are Phil's own words! You're buying all of this mularkey? I did as the commenter said and Googled Phil's name and "gambling" and he writes about this obsession all over the web.

That doesn't alarm you given that HE said that he raised $200,000 but can't account for it?

Would you have been surprised by the Bell scandal if you heard whispers about it before it became a big story?

I think of you as smarter than that.

Hey Mayor Sam, why not post all the new polls that show Jerry Brown kicking Nut Meg's ass?

Looks like the public has finally figured out this phony. She claims she's going to "create jobs" on day one. If she cared so much about "creating jobs" she would've put that $150 million to work creating a company that could create and maintain jobs instead of blowing it on an ego induced vanity effort.

If she cared so much about govt. and politics she would've voted once in the last 28 years.

No one beleives the lies she's spewing out of both sides of her mouth.

Perhaps you should give her an award for being the biggest dum dum the blogosphere has ever seen.

These rich people never learn.

So I hear that the main highlights of the event were that Parks left early, Jennerjahn got there late and that Stephen Box did an impressive job.

Bernie Parks must have felt like a fucking moron being on the same stage as NOBODIES. Then again, Parks IS a fucking moron.

Phil is a fucking moron too, but Parks makes about a HALF MILLION DOLLARS in PUBLIC MONEY (salary and pensions) each year, so he actually HAS A CAR, unlike Phil and Box.

Higby, instead of telling us what you HEARD, how about getting the link to the story on Rony's website and sending the readers there? Who cares about what you "HEARD"?

Phil is a simpleton, but don't you begin to wonder if that person who keeps posting the same anti-Phil stuff over-and-over might have an unhealthy fixation on him?

Phil hasn't done anything to cause anyone to spend this amount of time on his failures.
