Who'll Get the Last Laugh? Richard Alarcon to be Indicted

It looks like Richard "Lopez Canyon is Mine" Alarcon will indeed be indicted by an LA County Grand Jury as early as today. Councilman Alarcon has long faced accusations that he does not reside in the district (CD7) that he represents, but actually lives in CD2.

From the Times-

Prosecutors have been trying for much of the last year to determine whether Alarcon lied about his residency, which can be prosecuted as a felony. They served search warrants in January on two homes owned by Alarcon’s wife, Flora Montes de Oca -- one in Panorama City, which Alarcon claimed as his residence, and another in Sun Valley.
The latter house is outside Alarcon’s district and is in a neighborhood represented by Councilman Paul Krekorian.

Just last month, 6 members of his staff were called before the Grand Jury to testify.

Speaking of Lopez Canyon, the Community Alliance for Open Space filed suit against the City of Los Angeles and the Bureau of Sanitation on July 29th for the unlawful approval of a truck driving academy on land designated as Open Space. The Alliance raised money to file the lawsuit through donations and a series of bake sales. Read the Writ.

UPDATE-
- 2:30pm- Alarcon being booked now. To be released on OR. Multiple charges.
- 2:45pm- Pleads "Not Guilty" to 18 criminal charges including voter fraud and perjury. Court date Sept. 27th.

Think how much a special election in CD7 is going to cost, now. But, ohhhh will it be worth it. See ya, Richie. Are you still a hero to kids? (One time a supporter of Richard's told me to back off blasting him publicly because he is a hero to kids.)

The man and his wife were charged today with some heavy duty felonies and yet he still clings to his warped sense of arrogance and entitlement.

He's a thug in a suit.

Hey Michael-That ain't fair. Is there something you heard? Can't you give us a hint?

What irks me most about Alarcon's indictment is what he probably won't be charged for. He was, allegedly, trying to spend our tax dollars to redraw those district lines to make himself legal. Did anyone else hear about this?

This is AR's last term. I think districts probably couldn't be redrawn in time to help him out anyway. Not only that but Krekorian's community members will squawk like banshess if anyone tries to x them out of his district. Why should AR get special treatment. I hear he's going to try to get back the Assembly Seat he gave up for the city council. At least he does live in that district, but I don't know what his chances are of winning it back again. If it were me I wouldn't vote for him if only for the reason that he gave it up because he was greedy.

It’s time for the former Los Angeles Chief and current Los Angeles Council member Bernard Parks to show Angelenos dignity and bring forth a motion item requesting whether Council member Alarcon should be suspended or not. This would allow Angelenos in his district to comment on his suspension before a close session.

Los Angeles Charter
ARTICLE II - OFFICERS OF THE CITY
SEC.211. SUSPENSION PENDING TRIAL.

PENDING TRIAL, ending trial, THE COUNCIL MAY SUSPEND ANY ELECTED OFFICER, and the appointing power may suspend any appointed officer, AGAINST WHOM FELONY CRIMINAL PROCEEDING,
OR criminal misdemeanor proceedings related to a violation of official duties as described in Section 207(c). The temporary vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the Charter.
