Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Monday
Mayor Villaraigosa's Deputy Chief of Staff Jimmy Blackman - a longtime part of the Mayor's inner circle - is leaving reportedly to "spend time with his family." What we're hearing is that Blackman was pushed - by new Villaraigosa point man Austin Beutner.
Councilman Eric Garcetti is throwing some red meat to the anti-billboard NIMBY wackos by seeking to ban supergraphics in Hollywood however the business community is fighting back. If there is a place in LA that is suited for this type of signage that creates a district where economic activity could benefit all of LA it is Hollywood. Someone please explain that to the Birkenstock wearing, soy milk swilling BANANAs who don't care if LA goes into the economic crap hole.
Apparently folks Downtown are more concerned about what restaurants get big rankings in the Downtown News than anything else.
Attorneys for the Hare Krishnas have succeeded in getting blocked at least for now of an LA City law that would have prevented them from soliciting at LAX. However putting a nativity scene on public property is still considered to be something akin to pornography.
Have a complaint about a tow truck company in the City of LA? The LAPD has a new hotline you can dial up to turn them in.
Despite near universal satisfaction with his performance amongst his constituents, Council Member Paul Krekorian still hasn't won over one detractor. Phil Jennerjahn's latest screed rips Krekorian with near Zuma Dogg like passion.
And finally it's been a time for anniversaries lately. Congratulations to the always excellent Village to Village Blog which marked it's first anniversary this week.

The only way that I will vote FOR any city council incumbents is if Phil Jennerchoke says to vote AGAINST them.

I like Paul's Village to Village blog. It's good for people who don't really follow politics and just want a basic, surface explanation of certain things. Kind of like simple, summary re-caps.

higby are you reading all of Zuma Dogg's Tweets from today? He referred to you as a "fat sack of crap," unless there's a hidden meaning to that perjorative slur. WTF?

Will Jimmy sing to the feds?

If Mayor Beutner dumped Jimmy that's great. Can't believe AV let him go so easily. My guess is that Jimmy was there for the sole purpose of getting AV elected governor, but that no longer possible this may signal that some real work is going to get done and Jimmy is the guy for that. The standard reason stated by those who are getting tossed out is that they want to spend more time with their family.

Los Angeles: Tyranny of a Bankrupt City
by Lawrence Meyers
The City of Los Angeles – you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Slowly, ever since the departure of Mayor Richard Riordan in 2001, the parade of inept mayors and spineless city councils have dragged the city into a morass
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has always been an empty suit, a smirking, glad-handing fool of epic proportions with a history of questionable ethics. Besides successfully lobbying President Clinton to commute the sentence of a convicted cocaine trafficker, Villaraigosa pulled a John Edwards by allegedly fooling around while his spouse was undergoing cancer treatment. Add to this the L.A Times report that the Los Angeles Ethics Commission accused him of 31violations of campaign finance and disclosure laws during his 2003City Council campaign. Toss in the report that Villaraigosa was a member of MECha, a Hispanic separatist organization, while at UCLA, and attended an unaccredited law school in Los Angeles that allegedly promoted illegal alien causes (He failed the bar exam four times).
This is the Mayor of Los Angeles, and Angelenos have gotten what they deserve. They re-elected a man who has shown absolutely NO leadership in times of crisis.

Antonio doesn't realize it's HIS policies that have failed. Starting with his refusal to see a difference between legal and illegal immigrants from Mexico. To him it's all about "they just want to come here and take care of our children," not that they can't be allowed to flaunt our laws - that the rest of the world, whose people are more educated and tend to speak English like those from Philippines, China or Poland, just can't come here even though they'd have a lot more to offer America.
He's in Arizona as was Trujillo and the rest of the gang "making America a better place." For whom? He ran on the platform of "bringing all people together" but to him, that means ramming the Mexican world view down everyone else's throats. The Asians like the Korean-Americans are angry at him and have voted Republican as protest votes.

Jimmy left town just ahead of the folks who realized he was taking just as many if not more free tickets to Lakers, Dodgers, you name it. As a Deputy Chief of Staff, he should have had to report all his freebies, too. Bet none of it was reported.(Of course his boss didn't either, claiming it was "official business". Unfortunately Jimmy can't even pretend to claim that. For instance, Jimmy liked to hang out in the most expensive seats at Dodger stadium with his lobbyist pals. Just because he resigned doesn't mean he shouldn't be investigated. Cooley, Brown, Trutanich where are you?

LET'S MAKE IT CLEAR THIS CITY HAS BEEN CORRUPT SINCE THE BEGINNING THESE PEOPLE HAVE LEARN THE BEHAVIOUR FROM THE PEOPLE BEFORE THEM. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A TRUELY DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT. THIS IS WHY YOUR VOICE LANDS ON DEAF EARS. THE CITY NEEDS A MOVEMENT TO FINALLY GIVE THE PEOPLE OF THIS CITY CONTROL OVER SPENDING , DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING AND ENERGY ISSUES. IT'S NOT A ONE MAN SHOW. AN ORGANIZATION OF STAKEHOLDERS WHO ARE THE GATE KEEPERS OF CHANGE WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS. ANY VOTER VOICE WOULD BE HEARD AND CONSIDERED. THAT'S REAL CHANGE YOUR KIDS WOULD BE PROUD OF.
