Joe B misses the big picture.
If the driver doesn't have a license, they can be arrested and THEN if they cannot demonstrate who they are, they can be deported.
Obviously, the BULLY JOE B. wants to frame this as a victory. But that's what liars and bullies do.

Look here is what you have to do to solve the immigration problem:
1 - Secure the border.
2 - Enact severe restrictions on employers who hire illegals
3 - Deport all illegal from US jails.
4 - Create a tamperproof ID card (or use fingerprints)
The next thing is to create a program for mitigation for the illegals already here. Depending on how long you have been here you either go back home and get in line or you can fast track citizenship here in the US. If you're some single guy who is here for a couple years, go back. If you're a family that came here 20 years ago and you've been working, paying your taxes and never committed a felony, pay a fine and start the process.
If you're a youngster who was brought here illegally then join the service or go to college, get a degree and get a job and you can skip the fine and after three years of working following school you automatically get citizenship.
If the Democrats or Republicans don't like this plan they can kiss my ass.

But don't we also need some sort of a guest worker program for those jobs that nobody in the U.S. wants. I was watching a news item on TV the other night about some ag area where the farms are going to have to close because they can't get people to work in the fields.
Higby, while it would be good to deport illegals from our prisons to save money, billions probably (no one will give us an honest figure), it would only play into their hands since back in Mexico they'd be free to come right back across our border. The vast majority of those deported for crimes do, many times.
The conviction rate in Mexico and Guatemala for crimes: 2%. They'd be free as larks anywhere UNTIL we have some sort of agreement with Mexico and other Latin American countries to KEEP THEM IN JAIL once they go "home."
I think your suggesting that they have to be here 20 years before getting "a path to citizenship" may be reasonable, but the current number bandied about is 5 years, with many wanting NO waiting time.
It's appalling when you consider that ALL of LAST YEAR only 30,000 people from all over the world were granted political asylum. And that after grueling, rigorous and often expensive application processes via the "system." These are mostly from Haiti and Africa, some Guatemalans - meanwhile, some 30 MILLION illegals may reside here.
Also, what do we do about their relatives they'd bring over if they're legalized? They often have extended families at home, including elderly parents who'd need MediCare.
It's totally unfair the way those south of the border get different treatment from genuine persecution victims elsewhere in the world.
And then, many don't appreciate it, want "their own culture" at our public schools, etc.
We should definitely publicize THEIR immigration laws more.
The "Dream Act" would take money away from legal citizens' kids. The MOST discriminated against in the real world are middle class kids too "Rich" for scholarships but too poor to afford college.
No one is telling kids of illegals they can't attend college, just that they shouldn't get financial aid and tuition discounts meant for legal state residents. They can pay the out-of-state rates.
Liberals can fund scholarships.
Problem is, we can't have a reasonable discussion because any attempt to enforce the law and discuss genuine crime coming up through the border is called "racist" by the left, and on the right, we have genuine bigots and idiots, led by the likes of Walter Moore, Kevin James and nationally, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.

I voted for Obama, but this is going to cost him dearly on the political front.

The pundits are saying that this will be overturned in the SF Appeals court.

The special on Mexico's criminal justice system last night on KCET was harrowing. It made it seem like the worst country on the planet.
Detectives and police can point a finger at anyone and lock them up for twenty years, regardless of evidence. Even when they have no tangible evidence, they can do this. If they believe an accuser, the accused has no power whatsoever. Trials take place in front of administrators who admit they're being paid to lock as many people up as possible. Mexico needs America's help.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 the LOST Angeles City Council is Awaiting A Quorum Again which is customary here in Los Angeles. Council members Richard Alarcon, Bill Rosendahl, and Ed Reyes were late today. As a constituent said during public comment, the habitual late council members would be out of a job if they were working in the private sector.
Tuesday, July 27, 2010 Council members Paul Krekorian and Bill Rosendahl were also late. Additionally, Council member Jose Huizar was unable to lead the U.S. Pledge of Alligiance on Tuesday before council meeting but appeared to be a proud American Wednesday due to the blocks of part of SB 1070 by the Federal Judge.

The portions of SB1070 which have the most impact have been left. Anyone applying for any public assistance or program who is in the country illegally must be reported to Immigration. The person doing the intake will be charged with a crime if they fail to report the applicant. The employees Supervisor will be charged with a crime if they fail to report the employees failure to report. This is for all public programs including education and medical not just welfare or housing.
This section of SB1070 received little or no attention.
I am strongly in support of the sections of the Bill which were striken, but this section that goes into affect tomorrow is going to make criminals out of public employees. This is just too much of a step.
At last, the line's been drawn in the sand. The lib-dems think they've won, but come the elections the voters of this country will deliver a resounding thumb's down to Obama's administration. After that happens, and it will happen because the majority are royally pissed off at illegal immigration, it won't matter what the Federal Courts say about Arizona's right to secure the safety of their residents, because you'll see a 180 degree U turn by the failing community organizer as he tries to 'get tough' on illegals. Think of it as another BP 'foot on the neck' thing. OTO (One Term Obama) is sinking faster than a Louisiana Turtle, only he doesn't know it.

If the Federal Government chooses sides with the illegal immigrants, it could cause the political breakup of our country.

Both Joe m AND last poster are right: in Mexico, cops can make allegations without backing them up to get people thrown in jail for a long time but by the same token, a "lack of evidence" in cases where the drug traffickers are connected.
Case in point, according to the L A Times just last week, part of its series of articles on mass murder in Mexico: only 2% of criminals are actually convicted.
Meanwhile, the killers of the 17 people at a birthday party were let out of prison to commit the murders, then allowed right back in for protection by guards.

Judge Susan Bolton needs to read the constitution of the United States before making any rulings.
