Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday

Looking good baby, looking real good!

Yea we're back. As long as you don't piss me off.

Longtime civic activist Nick Patsaouras is filing suit against the DWP to force them to end their game of chicken with the Los Angeles City Council and compel the utility to make a scheduled $73 million payment to the City. Filing the suit for Nick is former City Attorney Noel "The Good" Weiss. But didn't he endorse his non-relative Jack Weiss for City Attorney over Nuch?

Who knew? Turns out the biggest donor to a drive to place a pro-pot measure on the ballot in November is George Zimmer, founder of The Men's Wearhouse. I guarantee it!

Who was that man walking up and down the street in front of a Los Feliz church early Easter morning picking up trash from the gutter? None other that CD4 Council Member Tom LaBonge. In the meantime actor/director Tom Hanks was seen stalking around Atwater Village ostensibly scouting movie shoot locations.

Great work by blogger Don Petrosky Garza and the folks on Skid Row helping the homeless on Easter. Still you know had to show up for a photo op, despite the City crumbling around him.

A CurbedLA reader from Hollywood wants to know how to establish preferred street parking in their neighborhood. The Curbed readers aren't giving much support to this move. I think eventually the courts will find preferred parking districts unconstitutional.

The LA Can't Drive blog snapped a photo of a motorist driving a BMW steering with his knees and eating a bowl of soup. Well, at least I hope it was some pho!

And finally Phil Jennerjahn's ill executed recall of all elected officials is still pretty much going nowhere. However Phil might get lucky that anger at the Mayor is building so much Villaraigosa may resign before Phil has to suffer the embarrassment of not enough signatures.

"You know who" did not show up at the press conference on Skid Row yesterday, where Carmen Trutanich and Steve Cooley announced a new injunction to prevent 80 known gangmember-drug dealers from entering the area.

The press conference did not go as planned; a bunch of activists were clearly well prepared to disrupt the announcement and the result was Trutanich having to shout over the activists to deliver the message.

You have to wonder how the activists got word of the injunction? One clue might come from the Mayor's absence. The ACLU, apparently, were behind the activists in opposing the injunction. The Mayor's connections to the ACLU are well known. D'ya think perhaps the Mayor might have dropped the dime to the ACLU to torpedo the press conference?

As the City crumbles around Villaraigosa's feet, the last thing he needs is Trutanich showing him up again, so maybe the Mayor of Failure did his best to disrupt the event?

Another figure missing from the VIPs lined up behind Trutanich was Jan Perry. Once upon a time, a long long time ago, the 2009 Political Ass Clown winner had walked Skid Row with Trutanich and urged him to help. That was before Trutanich outed Perry's cozy relationship with AEG and singled her out as the person who OK'd the $6M of taxpayer money she spent on the Michael Jackson memorial show.

Now Perry and the Mayor of Failure are hardly buddies, but she too was probably tipped off to give the even a miss. Or maybe it was Perry who was the poison pill who alerted the activists? It's certainly her style.

It's no wonder that the City is in the state it's currently in with the likes of Perry and VillarParker doing their best to prevent anyone looking like they can do the job.

Yeah, Noel Weiss DID endorse Jack Weiss over Carmen the Clown AKA bully-thug whatever, darling of the Republican tea bag right, "won't take a pay cut because I made more in private practice in Long Beach working for rich sleazebags" Trutanich. That's because Noel is smart as well as driven by a civic duty to pitch in pro bono - UNLIKE the Clown you keep babbling for.

Did this piss you off enough yet, to go away?

Anyway as bad as Carmen is Jack Weiss would have been worse. Noel didn't have to endorse Nuch but he didn't have to endorse Weiss either.

Higby, you have no basis whatsover for the claim that Jack Weiss "would have been much worse," except that it's a knee-jerk reaction to your having played into the hands of his opponents.

The same little clique who got behind Trutanich, the ones who want zero-development and oppose the subway and make billboards their focal point, issues you constantly disagree with them on - he was the victim of a concerted smear campaign which could have been directed against ANY of the councilmembers now or formerly (as they admit). Except that CD5 just happens to have a militant bunch of homeowner activists who are an active but small minority, mainly older and retired homeowners, who want to hijack the district - and ignore everyone else both in the district and the rest of the city.
Weiss wouldn't play into the hands of a few. His big alleged negative, being too close to the mayor, isn't what it seemed to those in the know. But unlike with Carmen, the Mayor would have been able to trust his advice.

Leaving out Jack Weiss, it's hard to see how anyone could be worse than Trutanich, with his war on medical pot after getting the pro- pot community to work hard FOR his campaign, throwing them under the bus like he did Laura Chick and Wendy Gruel, turning them into felons even as real criminals are being released from prison for overcrowding. Mainly to further his boss Steve Cooley's campaign for Attorney General, running to the right to appease Republicans.

Yeah, I think someone who all his former endorsers including the Daily News (all but the LA Slimes, whose editorial board and certain city reporters represent certain other interests) have called out for his word "not being worth the paper it isn't written on," is a bad city attorney.

Not only not keeping his word, but vilifying those who call him on it, like Laura Chick. (And I wonder just how stupid Don Duncan, "godfather" of the pro-medical pot movement, feels now, having been singled out for another of Trutanich's "investigations" according to the L A Weekly?) Or what about his bullying AEG/ Staples, with no legal basis? They invested millions in a newly opened movie and entertainment complex downtown that's a big financial gamble.

As for threatening to jail Jan Perry, sure she made a mess of the billboard injunctions with her side deal with Clear Channel allowing digitals on a freeway (something Weiss is the ONLY councilmember to have opposed), but jail her? If stupidity were a cause for being jailed, most of the council and Assembly would be there, headed by Trutanich himself! (A scenario Doug McIntyre painted a while ago.)

His million-dollar bail for the supergraphics scofflaw - more chest-thumping, attention-grabbing bravado, a side show for the HOA set. What about his going after gangs dealing on Skid Row right now? Ron Kaye himself wonders if it's not just a way to undermine Chief Bratton's strategy which has reduced crime in the area by half, and pleased merchants and residents, by dispersing gangs to elsewhere in the city where they can't be controlled, especially by a reduced police force.

The guy's a loose cannon and you've got so many people calling him a bully, thug, a "high-fiving" boar, over his head on legal issues. He admits he's never thought in terms of the constitutional issues involved having been a small-town lawyer for rich criminals.

That's it from me - I won't be drawn into a draining dialogue with the Trutanich troll who was first on the scene and will be here day and night.

I hope you forget past propaganda.
With the city in the mess it's in, accusations and blame flying this way and that, the politics of nastiness and lies brought onto the scene by Trutanich and his lackeys Shallman and John Thomas, Jim Newton and Ron Greene, isn't helpful.

Anonymous 12:40PM aka Mulholland Terrace, aka Joseph Mailander, just can't get over the fact that Weiss was a piece of shit. A morally corrupt ahole who took money from all the special interests to do favors for them. If it hadn't been for Trutanich and Berger's campaigns, the asleep at the wheel voters would probably have elected Weiss and you would all be sorry now, except for MT and the pot heads.

After all, Weiss was the hero of the rape kits, wasn't he? Hmmm, ok, well didn't Weiss invent DNA, or was that Al Gore? No, I know Weiss what the Mayor's pick for City Attorney puppet, so he had to be cheap. The more MT tries to tell me that Weiss would have been a better City Attorney, the more I know MT is smoking the product.

Get a life MT, get used to the idea that the Republicans are coming and they going to take back huge chunks of the city, the state and the nation. The days of your phony baloney PC bullshit political stuffed shirts are over.

Higby, the recall of Villaraigosa starts April 20th.
The other recalls...we're working on them.
I believe we have the support to do a recall on Janice Hahn and a recall on Ed Reyes.

I can't do everything by myself.
I'm only registered to vote in the 5th District.

2:30 may well be Berger/ Rumpole himself who we know haunts this blog, applauding himself for his slime tactics. Except nasty as the tone of this post is, it's downright civilized compared to his usual lies and smears. And THAT is the guy Trutanich named his "head of ethics" LOL just because he served as attack dog/ Cockney Robin Leach wannabe/ class-envy-obsessed nut who gives "mad dogs and Englishmen" a whole new twist.

WHAT have you accomplished, Berger, other than doing Carmen's dirty work? You are spearheading the "investigation" of poor duped sot Don Duncan, "godfather" of the pro-medical cannabis advocates (founder of GLACA, owner of one of WeHo's oldest pot shops, blogger) because you "discovered" he's advising Reyes and Koretz etc. AFTER you used him shamelessly to campaign FOR Trutanich who would be "sympathetic and compassionate" in his interpretation of medical pot. Right, ask them now - your hatred on this post and elsewhere because they don't like being used and then harassed and arrested is priceless, pure Trutanich and his bunch.

You also attacked Krekorian on-air and elsewhere, and vowed to Kevin James your mental and emotional equal, to rabidly go after Weiss whereever he is, whatever he does. You are a sick man.

Jane Usher meanwhile is also doing his dirty work against the pot people, and you've got Bill Carter calling Laura Chick a liar and idiot for ONCE misspeaking about what "pro bono" means, because she too, is no silent pushover.

You can't save your clown from himself and his own ego which far exceeds his capacities - nor yourself, Berger/ Rumpole. The way you fawn all over him on your blog is beyond obsequious to pathetic. Hanging onto his coattails won't get you where you want - you've got too much nastiness in your wake. It comes out of your mouth and pen every time you speak. Your dreams of becoming City Attorney yourself someday are pipedreams that only show your delusions.
Maybe you can audition for Robin Leach's job when his voice gives out.

The devil on my shoulder says DWP= Wag the Dog…you remember, the movie about creating a fake war to distract everyone from a real scandal.

Union layoffs, budget fiasco, 11% Mayor, infidelity, bimbo reporter part I and II, LAUSD take over fiasco, million trees, vignali letters (nunez letter while we’re at it…) etc. etc. all off the radar.

Wrap yourself in an impenetrable “green” cloth and take on all challengers. Hell, he not only got the sierra club to endorse this scheme that is, and isn’t, but sort of is again about green power according to DWP (because it’s also about fiscal solvency when it isn’t about being green and about being green when it isn’t about getting us out of the budget shortfall and if we can’t convince them at least confuse them) but he got Al-frickin-Gore to phone in a shout out. Al Gore is about as close to Jesus Christ Superstar as it gets for green. (*note, you’d think gore’s “people” would have vetted the viability of the thing first, but I digress).

And let’s call a spade a spade- everyone is focused on this DWP issue where Antonio is the champion of both fiscal responsibility and protecting the DWP’s bond rating AND then will be honored as the Greenest Mayor in the galaxy (I think that’s what the talking points Matt Spazz(o) is spewing claimed) vs the council who is championing the rate payers-business and residential alike.

Wag the dog people. Slight of hand. Quick! Look over there! “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” the voice said.

Where have we seen this before? Well the movie and Bill Clinton’s real life sex scandal were eerily if not comically similar. And what is the common denominator to all this?

Jay Carson.

That’s right. The new guy. The guy who least understands the City Charter. Hey he’s new give him a break- how was he supposed to know that LA’s mayors couldn’t actually fire 2000 workers or close the City for 2 days a week. And he’s in the driver’s seat on this one folks. That’s what he was brought in to do right? Give some grand policy vision direction to this lame duck’s political future.

The Mayor’s talking point says council looks like “Congress during the Healthcare debate”. And something about “the politics of “no”” That’s not an Antonio line. He’s from sac town. He’d a used a Sac town analogy. Matt Spazz(o)? He’s a City Hall guy, he’d a used an analogy about…well…ok…no original thoughts coming from there. My bad. Jeff Carr? The Rev? No, Jeff is behind the “biblical” talking points. This is Jay Carson cutting his teeth.

Well, welcome to LA Jay. Jay, you’ve driven the car off the cliff, and failed to pull the parachute, and are aiming for the jagged rocks below versus a safer landing just slightly to the right that was the council compromise.

Reminds me of the story of a certain mayor who once wanted to raise funds to hire more police officers. But that pesky city council lead by one Antonio Villaraigosa exploited the weak mayor system in the city charter and foiled his plans. Irony? Perhaps.

Phil is such a loser it's not even funny. A well organized recall would be a real tough but manageable job - the mayor of failure's abysmal record means that hundreds of thousands of people would probably fall over themselves to sign a petition to kick that prick into oblivion.

It's a shame that it's Phil Jenerdoodle that's going to lead this recall with a bunch of doppers who screwed up their own effort to put dope on the ballot because they're too stupid to read the really simple instructions - they forgot to sign the signature declarations.

As for MT's attack on Trutanich/Berger/Usher/Carter, it's just more proof that the liberals are crapping themselves over the bloodbath that's coming down the pike.

The Republicans are dumb and dumber and ugly too - except Palin of course who's the dumbest. EMeg looks like Herman Muenster with that forehead, high and with an actual dent in it.

Only by throwing around $50 million and buying the election outright can she win. And because Poizner is the bigger idiot- wants to pull kids of illegals out of schools. Would hurt LA County/ city most, we'd lose billions to other areas of the state. Even Republicans think he's a moron.

Jerry Brown is a chameleon, not the best the Democrats have to offer, but no one else seems to want to confront Meg's Millions. She'd be a worse governor than that other wealthy outsider Arnold - who at least has charm and personality and looks good. Until recently, still better than average for a man his age but he allegedly stopped working out after his accident. Meg in perfect alleged health looks like a scary freak. And her one-note idea of more jobs has worn thin: the state is NOT a company, she can't just mandate things. Ask Arnold.
