Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday

The City of Los Angeles wants to speed up the construction of rail lines and is seeking Obama era stimulus funds to do so.  The Mayor's office wants a proposed Federal program to advance money to the MTA for various projects. Deputy Mayor Jaime de la Vega said, "There are 12 major projects that we believe will provide over 127,000 construction jobs and 2,800 permanent jobs minimum."

With a looming disaster facing the City's pension funds the City Council is looking at getting a hold on the costs going forward.  A proposed ballot measure will drastically scale back the pensions offered to new City employees. According to reports public employee unions are already denouncing the move.

If Chris Essel was the Queen of SB1818 then Councilman Paul Krekorian is it's executioner.  One of the new Councilman's first moves was to propose legislation to limit the scope of the controversial measure.

I'm sick of Phil ripping into Paul Krekorian Higby. Can you ban him like you banned zuma dogg?

Enough is enough with Phil. Paul has been in office ONE DAY and Jennerdoodle is already making an ass of himself. I'm glad you gave him the Ass Clown of the Year award.

Has any one seen the photos of Jennerdoodle dressed up like a cowboy at the registrar's office? He is showing a middle-aged belly over his retarded belt buckle.

Some one didn't get enuf attention from daddy when growin up. Since Phil is a law school DROP OUT, he didn't get enuf guidance in his childhood home.

OK. I don't get this. I watch the first few sessions of the City Council and I have a few observations. First, the women seem to be fine and tasteful on makeup. Jan and Janice look fine. But does it appear to you that Tom LaBonge puts bright stuff on his face and Dennis Zine uses the stuff bald people use to brighten their heads up? What is the point? Does the Council employ a makeup person?

Also, it was so pleasurable to Matt Doud (Dowd?) escorted away form "he who has no name" but you wonder why this idiot shows up to a meeting with a guitar. In fact, now that "he who has no name" has housing at the beach, wouldn't it be better for him to have him and Matt set up a studio to make Youtube videos from their home instead of wasting their time at Council meetings? We need court jesters but we need to recycle them.

Anyhow, back to the makeup ... please advise.

Also, can we grade the Councilmembers for grandstanding (this might police them better). I hate Rosendahl wasting my TV time spouting off stuff and reminding the world that he is gay (is he insecure about being gay or what -- what is the big deal?). I do not like it when Cardenas is throwing out softball questions to staff; it's a waste of time. Of course, I guess LaBonge gets a pass on that because his shiny face lends itself to being a buffoon. And by the way. Mike Hernandez is whose deputy? I see him on camera all the time.

I don't know what phil's motivation is, but this confirms that he is a world class jackass. The man has been in office a single day, and he's already saying he's a criminal.

People gave Phil a whole year to prove he is an asshole. Too bad Phil didn't give Paul the same courtesy.

True dat 903! I guess you're right. The more Phil endorses someone, the more we need to stay away from that candidate.

I was just commenting on the level of Phil's childishness. Think about it: he is about 40 years old and dressing up like a cowboy, with his belly hanging over his belt, and has someone taking photos of him at the Registrar's office.

It's like he needs to have something to show his old high school friends so he doesn't feel like a loser. As if coming in last place, failing in the recall antonio effort, and getting fired from Mayor Sam, is something he can overcome.

John Phillips on KABC waxed about this the other day, saying that "rudderless people sometimes run for office even if they have zero chance of winning, or even a likely chance of coming in last place, just to give their ego a boost of b12."

I'm still having a huge laugh at the notion of Frank Sheftel submitting a resume to Paul Kirkorian even after ripping him day in and day out.

That's the definition of a weasel. Trying to destroy someone, then using the back door to try and get a job with them.

I guess the candy & pot business isn't as lucrative! Also, Frank's immaturity in wearing a t-shirt, baseball cap and wool jacket is classic.

Krekorian is the leading candidate for Mayor.

And Jennerdoodle is the leading candidate for Ass Clown of 2010!

Both take the early lead, but one is headed upward, and the other is on course for his second consecutive Ass Clown award!

If it's possible, let's get them the first ever GROUP ASS CLOWN award for immaturity stupidity and hygiene issues.

So I hear Paul isnt returning e-mails and telling people he's too busy now for them. Let see who he DOES hire in the cd2 offices. He's already brought in all his Assembly staff. Thought he promised to hire some of the locals. Mary was promised a job so no surprise there. Sheftel has some balls to put in a resume. But then again Obama did hire Clinton.

Sheftel looked and acted Shifty from the start. I don't care if all the pot shops are kicked out of L A except for the fact that the longtime ones with permits will sue, and have a good legal case.

But it was appalling how Sheftel threw his comadres in the pro-pot community under the bus to hook upto Essel and Trutanich, determined to shut down every single pot shop that exchanges money, which means every one since none are using wompom. (The same self-serving weasel move He Who Shall Not be Named has been doing.)

It's fine to switch to the winner but now when you sold your soul to support the one you thought would win. Someone like this does not have character.

Hey Paul, that is great that you at going after SB1818. But before you cure all the ills of Los Angeles could you atleast get your campaign signs picked up! Surley with the million dollars you spent on your grassroots campaign you have a few schecles left to pay some of the day laborers along Victory and Lankershim to pick them up.

Do not let this become a campaign issue for your opposition in the election coming up.

P.S. you are the leading candidate for the first Ass Clown award of 2010.

Higby why are you allowing Phil to slander Phil without his backing up the accusations?

You are so protectionist about everything on this blog, but when it comes to Paul Krikorian, who has a grand total of one day in office, you're not doing shit and allowing Phil to slander Paul in order to grab attn for himself.

Shut the fucker down!

best as I can tell, Phil has positioned himself to be the world's biggest punching bag because he insists on vocalizing the stupid things that most people with common sense know to censor.

what's worse is that phil equates negative attention with popularity and genuinely thinks he can have a successful campaign for anything. he couldn't even complete a year of law school though i wonder if he ever really attended one. i can't believe that he has what it takes to get accepted.

i truly think he is a simpleton on the zooma scale of dopiness.

Jennerdoodle, I would like to sign your Recall Antonio Villaraigosa petition.

That leaves only 239,999 more valid ones to go.

If you sign it too, then you'll only need 239,998!

According to your stupid math, you only need 1,000 people to get 2,399 or so signatures each.

Regarding those MTA construction jobs, we'd get more bang for our buck if these jobs are at will and not union. In addition, it would ensure that all qualified persons have a shot at employment.

Can anyone run this concept by Paul so he can bat for us?

I am so glad that Krekorian won. It was like Obama being elected all over again!! I know that he is going to stop development in CD 2. We have too many people here already. I cannot wait for him to put the Mayor in his place and stop supporting any new stores or homes, we have all we need. No more by right projects everything needs to be run by the NC and we need to be able to stop these projects. We need to renovate buildings not build new ones. There should be a building moratorium passed immediately by council for CD 2. I know that Krekorians staff has heard this at some of the meetings and I hope that he introduces a bill to accomplish this.

I too am glad that Krekorian won but I really hate to read posts about him writing legislation (he's not an assemblyman anymore), or stopping development (there are 14 other council members to get past), going head to head with the mayor or any of the things that you are expecting.

We are all lucky he is there and not Chris Essel. But I think that you shouldn't expect so much that you're bashing him here in 6 months.

Government is slow for a reason.
