Los Angeles becoming "Dope City"

"Excuse me while I light my spliff" are the famous opening words to the song "Easy Skankin' " by Bob Marley - a song that has become an anthem to the pro-cannabis crowd.

Well, voters here in Los Angeles better get used to hearing that phrase. It is about to become a permanent part of our culture here in Los Angeles. The overly lax enforcement of Californias Medical Marijuana Initiative has led to cultural armageddon...the proliferation of over 1000(!) marijuana collectives and shops here in Los Angeles. Yes...that is not a misprint..ONE THOUSAND! marijuana shops here in Los Angeles.

New City Attorney Nuch Trutanich and District Attorney Steve Cooley have decided that this is a fight worth winning and are willing to take on the pot shops, declaring them to be "100% illegal". As a Conservative, I admire their character and toughness, but I worry that they may have picked a fight they can't win. As I mentioned to another involved person, I said "I think the toothpaste is out of the tube on this one." Even if Nuch and Cooley go crazy and bust 100 shops this week, I'm worried that 125 more new ones might open next week.

The Cannabis activists are a little less confident and worry about Nuch and Cooley. Degé Coutee, director of the Patient Advocacy Network, says that "Patients feel threatened in a new way in Los Angeles. They (Cooley and Trutanich) are re-creating reefer madness and are out of step with the will of the people. We want acceptable rules, not raids."

Cannabis Activists and Patients have arranged to protest all over the State of California tomorrow.

The Los Angeles protest will be at City Hall at 2p.m.

I already saw one protesters sign --- "ZINE! WTF!!"
(I'm sure Councilman Dennis Zine will like that one!)
I hope someone makes a big sign that says "LOS ANGELES IS DOPE CITY!!"

Because, as an activist pointed out to me .."There are now more dope dealers here in Los Angeles than in any place on earth...!"

This is depressing.

When you elect people like Villaraigosa and the City Council Members, you reap what you sow.

Phil, the blame goes to the PLYM Committee and Ed Reyes and Huizar sit on and for a couple of years allowed the marijuana shops to open without doing anything. Oakland and San Francisco in the meantime where proactive and closed all the loopholes. They have maybe 100. Thanks Huizar and Reyes for meeting with marijuana activists and taking their sides. Now there are robberies at these places and crime is coming into neighborhoods. IDIOTS

Lead Times story: "Trutanich Accused of Bullying AEG" and other top officials.

Gist: he showed up at what was supposed to be a simple coffee Starbucks meeting "wearing sunglasses the whole time" with two "private security detail" at OUR taxpayer expense -- he brings these guys like a mob boss does everywhere he goes -- demanded $6 million or threatened to "go after you," shake them down with the full use/abuse of city attorney's office. Part of his intimidation tactics were to send inspectors out to try to sue over broken sidewalks near AEG venues. (Sounds like if ANYONE might have had the B & S head Adelman framed, it would be "the Nooch" because Adelman didn't play along. Would be out of the Nooch "fixer" playbook. But NOW playing Corleone with our tax dollars.)

Also, he doesn't understand the exclusions in the ICO which grandfathered in certain signs including the ones in question: THAT could cost US the city hundreds of millions if the moron keep playing thug. On top of, he oculd be sued by the interim head of B & S and others he's bullied. Even Perry if he doesn't back down.

ON TOP OF THIS the idiot wants to start a war with legit pot shops: seems he's got Zine and Smith agreeing to circumvent PLUM and the pro-medical cannabis community who'd been working with PLUM and take issue straight to full council.

(Koretz now sits as on PLUM as a known Assembly supportive voice for safe legislation - but Koretz has gone along with whatever Smith tells him on issues like reducing LAPD to oppose Bratton so has he been immobilized?)

The medical cannabis community had gone out in numbers to vote for Koretz and work for him so he's in a pickle if he doesn't support them, may WANT an excuse to punt? The community worked even HARDER for Trutanich, walking precincts and getting out thousands of votes because he promised "to uphold State law" as they understood it, so being thrown under the bus when he all along intended this hardass approach has made them mad as hornets.

His bullying the cancer survivor patient at City Hall all over YouTube only shows how his thuggish tactics are wildly unsuited to public service. They want a recall.

Phil, you are more than right to "worry" this won't turn out well. The only ones I care about is US the taxpayers: this grandstanding buffoon's running up huge lawsuits out of stubborness and stupidity while he's nickle-and-diming those like Chick's lawyer he'd vowed to support to get her endorsement: in the end, that will cost MANY times more than than $100 thou her lawyer would have settled for this spring, even this summer.

I'm happy he's such an open nutcase because it proves everyone who warned the voters and ostrich- like media MORE than prescient. Firing Jim Newton at the Times is nowhere near enough to make up for their lack of civic responsibility. BUT the financial waste...

Phil, you moron. You really think we have just become a drug city?

I guess you could feel that way since you just arrived as well.

But those of us who grew up here have known for a long time that the underbelly of Los Angeles is one of the dope centers of the world. Our proximirty to the Mexican border makes it a natural.

Go back to where you came from.

Phil's marijuana stance is easily justified
anti-marijuana = anti-mexican.

I'm sure Phil will cling to that red ant pesticide story. I am a patient and I know where and how my caregiver grows - haven't seen any red ant pesticide.

Those involved in the movement know that the cannabis collectives have played a major part in stopping illegal weed from Mexico. The competitive nature of these dispensaries - as with any business - has raised the bar substantially for high quality marijuana. The better the quality the less you need and marijuana grown outdoors in Mexico cannot compete here anymore which is why these cartels have shifted to meth.

Once you have obtained the high quality product avialable, there is no going back to the seed laden, THC deficient Mexican weed.

And for those complaining about crime, stack up the crime statistics of the local liquor store or neighborhood bar in comparison to the local dispensary.

YEAH WE LOVE THE TOUGH GUY TRUTANICH WHO IS FINALLY CLEANING UP THIS CORRUPT CITY. Trutanich is the talk around circles of how he's making politicans nervous with his hard tactics. He makes Rocky look like a whuss. Things are getting done around LA and community members are applauding Trutanich strong leadership. We have nothing but weak ass, whimpy men who have no balls. Finally a guy who has them big enough for the entire city council.

Yeah, Sheriff Bull Conner also had a lot of balls. Fortunately the cannabis community has a lot of lawyers.

Probably being paid in weed - that's good deal!

Now this is one issue I really DO care about.

(And just as soon as I can find the notes I made about it -- I wrote them on a stray Zig-Zag wrapper I misplaced around here somewhere -- I'll let you know what I REALLY think).

9:13 "moron": 6:34 SAYS the security detail "is at our taxpayer expense," yeah, using LAPD to sit there while he wears sunglasses and shakes down a leading citizen and behaves like a mafia thug makes it ALL better to you, right? Threatening citizens like this, cancer patient survivors, and threatening to toss officials who are HIS bosses in jail as well as paid and unpaid city officials and board members for doing their jobs: yeah, good format for "public service."

Must seem a dream come true for a thug who barely got through a night school that closed after a few years because it never earned Bar Accreditation, who spent his life as a small-time "fixer" in Long Beach getting rich by playing both sides of the turnstyle with the DA's office - even had the goods on Rocky after being hired as a special assistant in '05 - but too bad for him, his openly thuggist style is him to the core and all he's got, it's doing him in.

FOR STARTERS I DO SUPPORT MEDICAL HASH BUT FULL LEGALIZATION NO WAY. WE NEED TO PROTECT THE LEGAL VENDORS AND GET THE BAD SHOPS. MANY OF THE UNLICENCED SHOPS SELL PRODUCT THAT CAN KILL PEOPLE. THIS PRODUCT IS MADE AND HARVESTED IN VARIOUS WAYS AND CAN KILL YOU. WE NEED REGULATION AND IT MUST BE ENFORCED. SO I DO SUPPORT MUCH OF THIS EFFORT BY COOLEY AND NUCH. DRUG CRIME WON'T END WITH LEGALIZATION ANY MORE THEN LEGAL LIQUOR STOPS DRUCK DRIVER ACCIDENTS.
