This is such BULLSHIT!!!! The city is going bankrupt, 1st responders are fighting a fire they won't get on top of til Sept. 8th, two firefighters have been killed, public safety officers will start to get furloughed next month and these ASSHOLES think it ok to party and celebrate? This shows what a bunch of classless, no leadership, morons, imbecile, low life goons these politicans are. If they dont' see anything wrong in going through with this then I hope they all get their due KARMA. The only people to go will be the same kiss ass, lap dog, insecure losers we all know. BASTARDS

RE: Summer Night Lights (SNL) Contract

DATE: September 2, 2009

To Whom May It Concern,

We the artists of the SNL Gang Reduction Program demand immediate payment for our services. Many of us turned down other work to be a part of this important effort. The SNL programs success is majorly due to the arts component that is present at all 16 parks. We all depend on this - this is our work, we have committed ourselves not only to our craft but to our community to provide the services they all deserve. Likewise we deserve to be treated as professionals in our field of expertise. The Arts community is one of the most effected groups from the current economic downturn and continue to be disregarded by this neglect on the part of the City of Los Angeles.

The experience working hands on with the community has been remarkable. Many of us artist have gone through various lengths and have over exceeded in order to sustain the art, music and dance workshops for Summer Night Lights. For example, asking our colleagues, friends and organizations to donate materials, paying directly from our pockets, swiping our credit cards, borrowed money for equipment and materials. Although we have been partially reimbersed for materials, we have not been paid for our time and professional experience. There has been a significant amount of preparation, time, planning and effort to make SNL a success. Our efforts have over exceeded our expectations and requirements. The latest press release sent out on August 24th regarding White House Conference on Gang Violence and Crime Control states the following: “U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder praised Mayor’s SUMMER NIGHT LIGHTS program as an innovative approach to reducing gang violence.” This press release illustrates the success of the program however on the other hand we are outraged that we have been left in the shadows; we have been left to fend and find innovative methods to implement and succeed on our own without proper compensation. We have not been paid for our services or materials and equipment.

The contract clearly states that the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Mayors office will provide modest budgets for materials and equipment, we were told by, Michelle Berne, DCA of a budget cut from our original proposal for equipment and materials, soon after we received 25% of our materials budget three weeks into the program. SNL is now in the last week and we have not received not a single payment for our services.

We need answers today, via email, letter and a follow up phone call.

Thank you for your time and effort in bridging our communities thru the arts.

Sincerely,

SUMMER NIGHT LIGHTS 2009

MASTER ARTIST, COMMUNITY WORKERS, AND APPRENTICES

There's plenty to criticize him for, but Latino Heritage Month ain't one of them. First, the celebration has been taking place well before he came to office. Second, it's all privately funded so NO PUBLIC DOLLARS are used. That means no furlough money and no "first responder" money. So calm down.

Tony! Toni! Toné! . . . DUDE!

How many times I gotta tell you - you really need to update your "honorees" list to include some Latinos known for doing stuff in THIS Century.

What's this, the (Dead) Kennedy Center Honors? If you're not careful AV, people are going to think Latinos stopped doing things worthy of being honored in 1990s. (I think the last time Sheila E. had a song on the charts, you and Corrrrrrrina were newlyweds, and cellphones took up the whole glove compartment).

If you're not gonna take my PR advice, then I just won't cash the checks. (HA! That's a good one!)

Get rrrrrrrrrrrrelevant, Mister Mayor. It's okay to be a "lame duck" for now -- just don't be so LAME-O! If you can't get the BIG names, then do without.

(Or, maybe you DID try for more up-to-date icons, and they're just not taking your calls anymore? Well, we'll work that. I think maybe I can get George Lopez to make a cameo appearance, just for effect).

All he's done along with his other Mexican Mafia corrupt fools like Huizar, Alarcon, Reyes, Cardenas is bring a lower class of illegals here to cause blight and waste billions of dollars. Dumb ass media never reports the facts or truth. Ask anyone who lives in South LA and they will tell you the Summer Night Lights program has been an absolute failure. From July to August there were over 30 homicides. Each of the areas where the homicides took place had a SNL. Then if you read Connie Rice's gang report the Mayor stole the idea from someone else. But lazy ass LA reporters take the easy way out and skip the facts. They report what's easy for them. Is it any wonder everyone now gets their news of LA from other cities and internet sites?

What's wrong with the mayor getting in touch with his Latino heritage? The last time we saw him appeal to the Latino community this way, was when he wanted their vote.

Not that this event is a big effort on his part, but it's nice to see that after a full term as mayor, he's willing to do something more for his own community, other than just charm them to get their vote and then act like they hardly exist.

Any thoughts on whether it is preferred to "pay back" LACERS over five years or 15; and what the benefits of each would be; along with the negative impact of each decision? Which would YOU chose. Now THERE is a topic I would like to see come up somewhere during the campaign cycle. Or how about simply posting agenda items and asking each candidate how they would vote, or even to explain what is being voted on. You might be able to narrow things down that way for you undecided voters.

Creating a "sanctuary city" here in Los Angeles played a big role in heading the city in a downward path, drawing in more poor and prompting the exit of a lot of the middle class, contrary to whatever Tony claims.

None of the politicians want to acknowledge this particular element as a part of what got them to this condition but it did help. Not the only reason, but every little bit hurts.

Perhaps the Mayor of Failure could nominate himself for another Achievement Award and go to South Africa again on our dime. Only this time, give him a one-way ticket.
This is an offensive irresponsible waste of money, unless they get some heavy lifting equipment to hoist Paul Koretz for use as a pinata. I'd pay for that!
Wouldn't it be great if the Feds came along and celebrated another cultural activity - serving grand jury subpoenas.

"I'm a TAXPAYER," one says, but if you really looked at the dollars and cents of it, they're on the DOLE in some form or another for major portions of their life -- being PAID FOR by the people who seldom have the time or inclination to chase public officials around hassling them.

Why? BECAUSE WE'RE AT WORK, paying for the like of these BUMS for the first 3-4 hours of every work day.

(Not to mention that any City employee who did happen to log on here, to hassle those loudmouths or whatever, is probably ALSO paying 10 times the amount of taxes as the DEADBEATS they're supposedly dogggging.

Or, did you forget, the government -- at EVERY LEVEL -- zings City workers, too!

I'm still waiting for public comment on agenda items from Van Nuys city hall. I'm the only one here. Not TOO lonely. At least I have free wi-fi here to pass the time. I was going to leave, but then I would just be blogging at some coffee shop with a lot of noise. So I may as well just stay here, if I can make it through this "golf cart vendor" item, which is shady as hell. Dennis Zine said he has NEVER been lobbied so hard, from both sides, in his eight years as councilmember. Alarcon and Cardenas are on opposite sides of the tug-o-war, on this one, so that is interesting. Jan Perry stood up in outrage over some comments made by one of the panel members on the topic over the issue of "cash" operations.

ZUMA LAYS IT ON THE LINE: O.K., I got caught up in the moment at the public comment podium and I declared, "It's put up, or shut up for Zuma Dogg. There's an election on the 22nd, and I'll either carry on as Councilmember, or fade off into the sunset because I cannot carry on this way any longer (as a public gadfly)."

DION O'CONNELL GOT ALL EXCITED and Eric Garcetti tagged my public comment with, "City Attorney Dion O'Connell wanted to know if you would put that in writing." LOL!

And although I just blurted that out cause it sounded good from the podium as I was talking about the election in a couple weeks, on a day I have never been more burnt-out, broke, dark and hungry; you gotta remember it was "David" the candidate, and he doesn't speak entirely for Zuma Dogg, so you never know what will happen on the 22nd.

I'd like to think that I have been hanging in there a little longer for the election, which is coming up soon, FINALLY...but seriously, if I'm not elected Councilmember as a paid gig, I GOTTA MOVE BACK TO MALIBU AND TRY AND REBUILD MY LIFE AND START LIVING REGULAR DAYS.

I hope I win and can REALLY get in there and do everything I envision doing and being that "reformer" people expect me to be.

on the gafly tip, today council started to say the stuff i was saying the REAL problem is regarding medical marijuana (medi-juana) collectives in the city of L.A.

I have been saying in meetings it is the doctors who write prescriptions to anyone, and I blogged about the doctors who "recruit" patients at Venice Beach Boardwalk hundreds at a time who are creating the demand for all of these collectives.

Today, Huizar and Zine stood up and said that stuff during a BIG item on Medi-juana.

So first this week they adopt my call for "Special Event Fee Waiver" reform, as Richard Alarcon complains that I am "dictating" city policy (cause he doesn't want his shady money cut back); and now, Council takes my cue and gets to the root of the problem as described by Zuma Dogg as told to him by the medical marijuana community in the first place. IT'S THE SHADY DOCTORS.

I'm not even bitter, but feel very, very good when I see Huizar and Zine echoing the content from my blog posts and comments I made during council and committee meetings along with comments I made to them in person on this issue of the medi-juana doctors.

ZUMA DOGG FOR LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL. I'm already working with these guys on the BIG stuff. Imagine if I was their full time consultant as councilmember. There would be so much less insanity! I'll try to find one of those "Men in Black" mind erasers and look right into it for you, then shine it on everyone in the city, until there is no memory or history of Zuma Dogg anywhere. Then Wackos and Loons can rejoice in perfect harmony!

There has to be something illegal about this that happens all the time in council. Where's zuma? Yesterday they debated for two hours on the golf cart issue. Mitch Englander is the Chief of Staff for Greig Smith. His uncle is Harvey Englander the lobbyist for the golf cart company that got the continued contract. Then you have the Pplitical Union = Police Union PPL press person who works for Harvey Englander. The PPL has paid thousands to all the city council members. Is this shit legal?

After an intense lobbying effort, the City Council rejected the recommendation of the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners to award a 10-year contract for cart rentals to a new concessionaire, Sherman Oaks-based Ready Golf Centers.
Barry A. Sanders, president of the park commissioners board, said the city's longtime golf cart operator, J.H. Kishi Co., will continue on a month-to-month contract while the panel starts over. Harvey Englander, a lobbyist for Kishi, said he was pleased that the council "saw there were deficiencies" in the process of rating the bidders.

The event at council was very silly.
lots and lots of talking, way too much, flags of every central and south American country came out, read by Alarcon, then all the Mexicans had to talk, of course, the mayor too who stumbled even more than usual over his words. That big incompetent Trutanich was there but Wendy and most others wouldn't make eye ocntact with him, then some fat ladies danced and jiggled some Columbian dance.
It was the three least coordinated gringos, LaBonge being first, then koretz and Rosendahl who joined them. Rosendahl had to tell us that he the spirit so moved him he was dancing even after hernia surgery. TMI.

Later, they upset LaBonge and Cardenas' golf cart plans, sticking with the same vendor they'd had for 40 years because they'd kick back a bigger percent to the city, even though they hadn't done a great job so far. Worried about backlash, afraid of their own shadows now. The Daily News said the would-be new vendor had spent $250,000 meeting the RFP so far and wishes they'd never gotten involved with the city. Jan Perry got defensive about the current vendor being possibly dumped. No one knows why there's been so much lobbying for these contracts, that even Sheriff Baca had to try to throw his weight around fo rhis preferred vendors.

At some point Alarcon's daughter got confirmed to the one well-paid commission gig, replacing Cardenas' brother, who was really mad at the Daily News editorial about nepotism. (Andrea had briefly just been a taxicab commissioner to give her resume for this job, but she said she'd also worked for numerous other legislators after law school and that she had never intended to practice the law.)

They were a sad spectacle, not one leader among them, really pitiful.

I am so BURNT OUT on Villar's pathetic "Latin King" mentality that I'm ready to "vomitos" pronto. Why does he stop here? Why doesn't just go ahead and crown himself the Aztec god of Aztlan, complete w/ a huge Queztlquaddle (sp?) head-dress and loincloth. Then he can declare Spanish and cholo-speak the official languages of L.A. and restrict us from speaking in English. (Mondays-and-Thursdays-but-not-during-the-hours-of-9:AM-and 4:PM., hokay, Meester Mayor?) Then Tony le Tigretto can establish a curfew for all gabachos in a gang "out"junction declaration entitled Special Order Patty. Let's face the mariachi music, People: In Los Angeles, EVERYDAY IS LATINO HERITAGE DAY. Along w/ Jaime Escalante, Jiminy Smicketts and Speedy Gonzalas, Villar should've given a posthumous award to Pancho Villa and declared Fidel Castro Man of the Year. And did you notice all those Bra-zillion dancers were black? Ha, ha-- that must've bugged the HECK out of all the racist Mexican city officials!Woo-Hoo!!

I love Antonio and I'm so glad he's our mayor. I hate white people who give other white people a bad name. Like that old woman named Rita. What the hell is up with her?

Rita, are your great and great-great grandparents from here? Are they Native American killers? They must be. You are more bitter than Bernie could ever be.
