Random Musings on CD2
Looks like candidate Christine Essel is fast becoming the joke of the campaign. Between writing her wrong address on a petition and getting lost in Sunland-Tujunga its not looking good for her. More concerning, her big wad of cash from all the you-know-whos.
Several candidates have taken up the offer by Joe B. for his famous Sunland-Tujunga tour. Having taken this tour myself I highly recommend, followed by the de rigueur visit to Joselito's, one of ST's favorite watering holes.
Grassroots candidates like Frank Sheftel and others are making the yeoman efforts of attending the usual events such as chamber of commerce mixers, neighborhood council meetings and tonight's National Night Out. The question is are you guys as well building an effective get out the vote organization or falling in the Walter Moore trap of making signs and hats?
Essel - sounds kind of like Edsel.
The more reports I get about Paul Krekorian's staff the more I am convinced he is the choice for CD2. Residents in his Assembly District report getting excellent service from his field reps. With CD2 suffering some serious neglect right now we need someone who can hit the ground running with constituent services. We don't have the time for Essel, Galatzan or the others to figure out how to hire a staff and outfit them with GPS devices to find Sunland-Tujunga or West Van Nuys. It will be far more effective to put in a local guy, with a team already on the ground that can start untangling things from day one.
Whatever happened to those rumors about Stuart Waldman or Jim Alger running for CD2?

Stuart is a big fan of Paul Krekorian.

Chris Essel has an uphill battle since its out she's an Antonio person and hasn't been involved in anything at all but made tons of money as a Paramount exec.

Since when is it a crime to make money? Ini fact, I'd rather have a councilperson who knows how to make it rather than spend it.
Krekorian is a poliotician who spends, spends, spends. Does he actually make any, or know how?
Give me an executive any day over a tax and spender.
Michael, I am surprised at you; you have never pushed for a taxer and spender like this.
Michael Higby said:
I didn't say it was wrong Chris Edsel makes lots of money. I'm saying she's clueless and has no idea how to serve this District.

Better to tax and spend (Democrat) than to spend without tax (Republican).

Higby:
If you wanted someone w/ experience and knows their way around a district/knows about constituent services, why did you not endorse Koretz for CD5?
He obviously knows the District and has worked constituent services/knows his way around city hall.
HYPOCRITE
Michael Higby said:
Because Vahedi was a better choice, and ready for prime time.
Koretz only ran because his wife would have otherwise made him get a job.
Petra Fried in the City said:
Wow Michael, since when did you move to CD 2?
I've lived here for a decade and Paul Krekorian is just a business as usual carpetbagger. No thank you.
Anonymous said:
Well, Higby, you are wrong again.
Koretz is essentially unemplyable. HIs wife did us a favor; otherise, he'd be standing in line at Club 55 waiting for his weekly check from Uncle Sam.
Anonymous said:
Will Krekorian do for us in CD-2 what he did for the State? i.e. cut services to the poor and the elderly and essentially drive the govt into the dirt. No thank you.
he can keep his staff of carpetbaggers as well.....

10:45: That same M O worked well for Trutanich under John Shallman, who's managing her as well. Never did anything for the community, at least not for the last 25 years - worse, worked against the public interest on behalf of criminals. This made him "the outsider" with no baggage of any kind, something no experienced pol or incumbent can say. Certainly not Krekorian, with his old-school demeanor, tax and spend, and ethnic ID politics.
EXcept that it was Shallman himself who made "Antonio tainted" money like the names AEG, Wetherly, Paramount etc. "the enemy" yet now he's got his girl going the same route? John's caught in his own slimy web.
Something other local campaign mgrs. need to think about when they play dirty. John's in the SAME CD2 base area again, and he helped create the perceptions he's fighting now? Poor Essel.

Add to the negatives Shallman's created for himself, his "unknown quantiy candidate" is already the Carmen, the Soap Opera, High-Fivin' while little girls are dyin', huffin' and puffin' I'll Blow Your House Down, laughingstock of L A.
Chris is a far more decent person, the total opposite of Carmen in fact, but he's ruined it for her.

11:29: Yes, Higby's a hypocrite, alright. What B. S.! Wants someone who can hit the ground running, no time for on-the-job experience, with a top professional staff who gives good constituent service (even Jack's detractors admitted his staff was the best): sharp intellectual legal mind vs nightschool grad from a ridiculous, defunct school.
Higby actively worked for that buffoon Trutanich who is the opposite!
Yes, even Koretz over Vahedi would have been more consistent, though Koretz replacing Jack has meant a significant loss for L A -- he's been marginalized on public safety committee, no clout on anything to do with LAPD, now Smith/Zine are ruling the roost opposing Bratton. Although I otherwise like Smith, a decent man.
To be consistent he should pick anyone BUT Krekorian, and go with Essel - but she's not slimy enough for him, I guess? And she hasn't honed her "fancy speeches and soundbites," that "are not just empty words, but lies." Yeah, thanks for your "service to L A" Higby.

Now Trutanich is responsible for Essel's failing campaign too?
Get a grip.

Nuch may not be responsible for the swine flu (yet) but he did go from 120 to crash faster than a Ferrari.

Experience? I think we did pretty well with Wendy. If you feel that strongly about it, Grab a spot in the Tujunga wash, throw down a dirty old mattress and call it home. Register to vote here, then I'll care what you think.
"Hit the ground running. Yeah. Crookarian will hit the ground and start running for his next office.

I think a race between Waldman and Alger would be fun. Or funny.

Okay, I apologize. I see I posted on the thread before this one, then I came here and accused you of not posting my comment.
Nevermind. It's time for a cup of coffee for me.

Well, I can't make up my mind who is cuter. Alger or Stuart. Luckily they aren't running so I don't have to worry.
But check out Shallman's ass. Ooh baby. He's bangable. Oh yeah...

Michael,
All the most experienced politicians who know how to untangle the mess are the ones who created the mess and drove the state and city into this financial mess.
It comes down to the decisions you make and who you think will make the decisions based on the community's voice, not the special interest voice.
All the councilmembers are very experienced and ready when they are sworn in for second terms.
But then look how they spend and what they approve. And Paul is one of those. (Career politician.)
I would prefer to hear reasons based on things that he has done that you admire. Or positions where he took a stand or something real.

Look, I think Wendy did a great job while in office, and whoever she throws her support behind has at least my attention if not my vote of confidence. I think we need not only a leader with a head on their shoulders, we need the right man for the job and we need to take a serious look at the specific aspects of each candidate.

I liked Wendy in the beginning, but halfway through her term she started to irk me. It got to be obvious she was just sniffing out her next job.
Therefore, who she endorses in unimportant to me.
No, I can't vote in CD 2 but I surely do care how the person who wins votes on issues that I care about.

how the hell is Krekorian a "local guy" he has a postage stamp in the district and hasn't left Burbank/Glendale until now. He still refers to ST as "the Valley" .... last time I checked it's part of the foothills... and isn't in the valley. Mary seems to be the only person who gets that.
My other issue with Krekorian ... he's a professional politician who's not even from LOS ANGELES!!! How can you trust that he isn't just making "campaign promises" that he'll forget he made on Dec. 4th.
