Political Expression from Los Angeles
"Political Art = Free Speech ??"For many years since the start of the Reagan Administration, walls, construction sites, overpasses and underpasses in Los Angeles have been plastered with the "art attack" of Robbie Conal.
Conal's "plaster and paste" commentary come from a far-left perspective. Many will remember his "Contra Cocaine" and some of his other "plaster and paste" rendering of conservative figures Ronald Reagan, Oliver North, and Jesse Helms.
But today, local and national media have gone into a "double-standard overdrive" in seeking out the artist and group behind the Obama renderings which has been popping up in locations city wide.
And it did not take long for the race card to appear courtesey of Earl Ofari Hutchison.
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson is calling the depiction, politically mean spirited and dangerous.
Hutchinson is challenging the group or individual that put up the poster to have the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves.
"Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery," says Hutchinson, "it is mean-spirited and dangerous."
"We have issued a public challenge to the person or group that put up the poster to come forth and publicly tell why they have used this offensive depiction to ridicule President Obama."

What was wrong in depicting members of the Reagan Administration as front people for Cocaine Dealers ?? What was wrong in depicting George W. Bush as a trigger-happy warmonger in the Robbie Conal creation posted above ??
Nothing!! It is call "FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION!! That includes the Obama "Socialist" creation which is right on!!

I tend toward the liberal side Spot but you are right.
Now that the other foot is in the shoe, that skin is sure thin... or is that racist too?

Reagan & Bush were guilty. Obama is not a socialist. But I like political
expression no matter the form.
JOE b, if you claim Obama's not a socialist, read, actually read, his healthcare plan. For example, the mandated electronic medical records would be instantly also linked to OUR/ your financial records, via the IRS filings: bank accounts, etc., in case you default on your medical bills.
That would be available to hospitals when you do in for major procedures IN ADVANCE, And you'd have a family financial cap for your annual allowed, covered expenses -- many services would be raitoned, that is CUT OFF, based on age, as is the case in places like Britain but even much worse. And the age cut-off applies from age 50, gets drastic by age 65, but MediCare would be eliminated in the process. Terrible stuff.
However it's Pelosi as much as Obama -- some say he's really a shill for her policies, which is why she pushed so hard for him over Hillary who can't be pushed.
This kind of ad campaign only depicts the "artists" in such a bad light their legitimate warning is tuned out. It's just dumb and tacky.

Are you on drugs? During his campaign, Obama repeatedly talked about "spreading the wealth"....(i.e. taking it from those that produce and giving it to those who don't)
Obama is such a far left liberal that he is pretty much a Communist. Our government had no business seizing car companies, seizing insurance companies, and seizing health care industries. It is flat out thievery, anyway you look at it. That is something that happens in Banana Republics.
The stock market will continue to tank because no investors want to risk their money with a government that behaves like that.
Say what you want about Bush... the stock market hit record highs when he was in office. You will NEVER be able to say that about this current administration.
Of course, the depiction is correct. Obama is a socialist and is doing his best to move the country in that direction, while deceiving us by indicating that it isn't so. R. Conal needs to add to his poster, depicting Obama as The Joker, by depicting Obama as The Two Face, also.
I love the fact that obama is now trying to see if he can raise taxes on the middle class.
I hope he raises taxes on ALL classes to pay for all of his insane spending.
The rich can always pay their bills even if their taxes are higher, but the middle class won't be able to. This pinch is gonna hurt big time and it'll serve them all right for voting for this idiot.

Obama is not a socialist, but even if he was, I'll take that over Bush, Reagan, and their corporate cronies any day.
Whether this piece is in bad taste or not shouldn't matter. Free speech is free speech and it should be guaranteed, no questions asked. If someone chooses to express their opinion about it, whether in favor or opposition, that's also free speech.
The fact that there is an open dialogue is what makes America great.
The LA Democratic Party has already put in a request to Bratton to prosecute this "artist."

On the flip side, how is picturing Obama as an economic "Joker" (from Batman) on the political scene, "demonic"?
Most rational people will agree that political satire and criticism has been flowing in our bloodstream since the founding fathers, and has to flow freely.
It also has to be a TWO-WAY street. Unfortunately, from what I can tell from this post, both Spoot and Earl are in need of some "driver's training" with their misguided commentary.

the only problem with the poster is it should say fascism with some socialist tendencies. neither of these two puppets is or was working for the american people. we have been heading this way for decades and the lastest rat in the white house is every bit as bad as the last. some people are beginning to wake up and realize this. if you listen, you can hear an audible pop as americans pull their heads out of their asses. stop buying into the sides issue, there are no sides anymore, no good difference in the two parties. they work for the world banks and the federal reserve. with the exception of a handful, congress needs to be ousted and replaced. there is such obvious corruption. anyone who likes what is going on is completely ignorant of the issues. again, stop being fooled by the side aspect. the only side issue is us against them. enough with un-american people in government. it is our duty and moral obligation to get rid of these people. time to grow up and be responsible for our lives and our country. the sole purpose of government is to protect our rights... the constitution is not an instrument to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government... patrick henry

aug. 4 2009 6:09... what's bad about socialism is it has no place in a free society. just as we live in what was founded as a constitutional republic not a democracy. we were set up this way in order to avoid many of the problems we are now experiencing. a corrupt group of people along with the apathy of the american citizens has allowed a continuance toward a democracy. democracies never last and always end in tyranny. in a republic every individual is protected, democracy is mob rule. socialism is bad in that it takes money away from some people in order to give it to those who haven't earned it. if you can't see the problem with this then you do not understand much about america. it is unfortunate the ignorant are allowed to vote but i guess it goes along with congress who votes without reading the bills. i suppose some find this acceptable as well... idiots. seriously, if you have to ask what is wrong with socialism in a constitutional republic, you really aren't paying attention.
