Tamar Galatzan & Her Problem Husband

CD2 Candidate Tamar Galatzan made her first appearance in Sunland-Tujunga at Wednesday night's Neighborhood Council meeting. She came not to stump speech or lay promises on Wendy's former constituents, but to address a sticky issue that threatens to derail her campaign in this foothills community; her husband, former VICA CEO, Brendan Huffman.

Brendan, as you may recall from past Mayor Sam stories, is the outspoken and uninformed shill who showed up at several hearings pleading on Home Depot's behalf. At these hearings, Brendan predicted City wide meltdown if Home Depot was not allowed to open in Sunland-Tujunga. He wrote an article in the San Fernando Valley Business Journal where he mistakenly claimed that Home Depot owned the property, mislabeled the community fight as a fight by a competitor, blamed it all on day laborers (never an issue), and failed to understand that just because you are Home Depot, you can't open where you damn well please.

Tamar opened her remarks by saying something like, "You know ladies how often our husbands can be wrong". This brought a chuckle from the room and helped to break the tension. Tamar told of the many "discussions" her and her husband held about the Home Depot issue and then added that no one tells her how to think or act.

She continued by relating the numerous cases, as a prosecutor, that she has pursued against Home Depot in Van Nuys for their unwillingness to deal with their site being overrun by day laborers, who she said "urinate, fight, gamble and drink".

She is to be commended for finally making a trip up to S-T to take on this issue. She dealt with it pretty well, she managed to place some distance between her and Brendan, and just maybe the community can try really, really hard to separate her from him. It won't be easy, but tonight was a good start.

Tamar has some real competition in this race with Krekorian, Essel, Sheftel, Benson, possibly Pugliese, and others. The last thing she needs is to have to drag around the baggage of a spouse that's never seen a proposed development that he didn't love.

Chris Essel is the best candidate for this seat. She has balance, she has experience, and she has good judgment.

There most certainly will be a runoff and she and Paul Krikorian will be in it; Tamar will not be in it.

This is a time for Higby to get behind a business friendly, savvy woman and propel her to the seat.

C'mon Hiigby what are you waiting for, Saltzburg to declare so you can pimp another loser? It is time to back a winner and restore some credibility to this blog.

How can Tamar do any of her taxpayer paid jobs while running for office? She needs to resign from either or both of them. She's another one of these Rocky Delgadillo cronies who gets a tenured position and then runs around campaigning on our dime. She just ran for school board 2 years ago, she campaigned for Jackass Weiss against her new boss and now she's campaigning again for City Council. LAUSD has a massive deficit and is worse off today than when she first joined. Meanwhile she has no problem collecting her salary while teachers are being laid off. Then she collects her City of Los Angeles paycheck--another employer with a massive deficit--all while campaigning for political office.

And she's worried about her husband's record? That's the least of her problems.

I think Jim Alger should move back o LA and run for CD-2. Sure would be better then most of the choices we have. By the way, how the hell did he get nearly 30,000 Twitter followers when I can barely get 300????

Sherman Oaks vs ST.

It is not just her husband who is the problem but the other men in her life. Lets start with the Mayor who raised over 2 million to get her on the school board so he could get control and put Monica at the helm. How about the man behind Measure B and Prop R, Steven Kaufman; he is involved in her campaign right now!

Yes she has taken on many issues but activity is not accomplishment. Why does Sherman Oaks have one of the worst squatter problems in the valley. She has been unable to get them out of the homes that have been foreclosed on. Why has she been unable to get the day labor crowd out from infront of Rydell Motors costing them much business. Why has she by her own words been unable to go after illegal drug sales "outside" medical marijuana clinics?

While she was cutting cost by making the kids wash their own towels, she sat back while the Mayors Board diverted millions to consulants.

There is a reason summer school has been cancelled and she is one of them.

Sorry, you can not blame all of your failures on the men in your life. We already have more than enough of those political buck passers on the council already.

Stick with LAUSD and as Wendy Greuel said, "The best thing you can do is finish what you start"

Alger won't run in CD2 if for no other reason but those 30,000 Followers on Twitter. He is doing much better in DC where lowlifes aren't bashing him all day. Don't see him uprooting his family to come back here.

Pretty soon we'll hear how every candidate running is a loser, corrupt, did who knows what to who-knows-who, and then wonder why no one good runs.

Slime away!

Money talks and BS walks.

Watch the filings; the two top fundraisers will be the two left standing after the primary.

After that, it will be who gets the most support from the other unsuccessful candidates.

For your information, this post is the kind of posts that belong on this blog, not the cut and paste, smear and belittle, ad hominums about husbands and girlfriends, and "cute" punning on people's names.

Does anyone remember this blog when it was like that? Before Higby fell in love with David Saltsburg?

It's an Essel vs Krekorian runoff w/ Essel winning in a landslide. Tamar comes in a not-close 3rd

The other candidates won't raise money and aren't serious. That's no reason for those of us to go and bang our heads against a wall (like Ron Kaye does on his blog today)

We have three choices. One of them is a woman who is moderate, pro-business, and who is smart enough to know she will need to fight to limit oversized developments b/c that's what CD2 constituents want.

The other two - they campaigned for Jack Weiss.

http://www.jackweiss.com/index-3.html and scroll down

Not a hard decision.

It was a great ice breaker but there is still more needed from Tamar to understand why she wants to represent CD2.

Chris Essel was not at all informed or aware of this job and the areas she wants to represent. She couldn't even say the community names correctly.

Krekorian has government experience but we still need to know more about him.

We need to wait til the Candidate Forums so we can see these folks in action and get to know them better.

Trying to make jack weiss a neg for 2 of 3 like previous poster is lame lame, that's all you got? He was by far the better choice than the neophyte blowhard Zine who are crude and vulgar enough to have let Perry twist in the wind so they could have their buddy Kevin James label her "stupid, an idiot, a moron, an incompetent" as he did last night, and then be mediawhores all over the media as if THEY weren't even more responsible.

And the Trutnich "team" is all old white guys (except one old black guy dragged back from retirement) all of whom are recycled hacks hand-picked by Cooley from the old CIA/FBI/and Cooley's own office. (Of course you people like that demographic -- SLAP IS the old boy's tribal network of suburban reactionaries mentally in the 50's.)

One older guy from within the City Attorney's staff of 650 lawyers. They'll all need that one to give them on-the-job training at our taxpayer expense -- and Trutanich is using the LAPD to teach him too while he and blowhard Zine second- guess Bratton who did a great job.

Trutanich saying that cops cost "10,000 per person" since their successful crowd deterrence resulted in only 2500 ticketless people instead of the many more who otherwise would have showed, is typical hyperbolic soundbite designed for the dumb masses who were turned out in disproportionate numbers by that nasty James, JonKen, McIntyre.

And alienate a major corporate sponsor by turning them publicly into a Bernie Madoff, when in fact AEG kicked in for the Lakers parade when asked, and there's a decent way to negotiate with them to pay for City's costs, and the "lacking in any class" way Zine's doing now on behalf of Trutanich.

Business-friendly my ass -- while I think it was dumb not to get AEG AND the Jacksons and anyone else who profits from the SHOW of the event to pay upfront since this is not a First Amendment event, the blowhard way they're going about it vs. Greuel's businesslike way is opportunistic and typical of the buffoonery rightwing radio and Zine have as a trademark. For you people "elitist" is a dirty word, but give me the manners of Weiss and Bratton any day as a counterpoint to the degradation of this city Zine & Co. bring us.

Of course you people love Zine's low- class style, you love zuma dogg and there's no difference between them except that Zine's on the public's payroll.

Since zuma likes Essel and claims she's kissing his butt, that's a huge negative for me. However she didn't endorse anyone in the Cityh attorney election, being new to the game.

Tamar is independent of the mayor on many issues, you would never know he helped elect her based on her voting pattern, but she's NOT dumb or crude enough to ever sink as low as Trutanich to totally rely on these rightwing vulgarians to get elected. Paul I don't know, but being recently in this Assembly is not a plus.

Its always annoying when a committed limousine liberal like Tamar, when running for office, tries to position themselves as some sort of mainstream, middle class, aw-shucks ladies you know how nutty our husbands are, type candidate.

Louis Pugliese has filed.

Louis is a brilliant man who understands the issues, has experience as both a teacher and business person.

Louis also understands how to run for office. In his first run for LA School Board he received the endorsement of the LA Times and forced a runoff.

In his second run he came within a smidgent of votes of defeating Mayor Villaraigosa's handpicked candidate who should have won in a landslide.

Louis would no doubt have an uphill battle against the developer and union money backed on Essel, Krekorian and Galatzan BUT with a crowded field, no unanimity amongst the city elites on a chosen candidate - combined with pissed off, anti-incumbent, anti-development and anti-carpetbagger mood in places like Sunland-Tujunga, Studio City, Valley Village, West Van Nuys (or whatever they're calling it these days), etc., Louis - if he works it right - has a perfect shot to get into a runoff with Krekorian or Essel.

Tamar's husband shilling for Latham & Watkins/Home Depot is the same albatross as those on the Southwest Society who shilled for Latham & Watkins/Autry. The Mayor and Jose Huizar are going to be dragging those lame hangers-on around in the next election. The community knows who it was who tried to betray the best interest of the Northeast -- just like S-T folks will not forget Tamar's "Problem Husband".

That is a desperate attempt by Tamar to fit in out there in Sunland-Tujunga. There are many, many, many more reasons why she would be a bad candidate also besides Home Depot.

Independent of her husband's opinions? Oh please. We've all heard that before. What a crock of shit.

Good luck trying to get her views to match yours in CD 2 on any other issue.

She started as a school board member, so let her finish it out. Don't keep contributing to the stepping-stone-to-the-next-higher-paying-office candidate.

She's done nothing for YOU in CD 2 and she won't later so count her out now.

She ran for school board with this CD 2 run in mind and she's blinded by the money.

No Tamar Galatzan!

Cutesy doesn't cut it. I can still smell the stink of VICA support for HD hanging low over the Valley.

Why do they only care for me until I sleep with them and then throw me out in the morning then look for their next conquest?

I want my councilman to represent our local interests. The rest of the council can have their vision for the future for the central city and take positions on global warming and Michael Jackson while we live in squalor.

Follow the money and who watch who they sleep with.

BS walks and money talks? - ask Home Depot if that is true. Your money doesn't mean squat here.
