Feast or Famine for "Connected Non-Profits" ??
Memo to Celeste Fremon at Witness LA.
How can you be surprise that the former Tony Villar, now known to all as Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, fail to keep a promise ??
Look if the guy could lie to his wife, then what would keep him from saying that the "Check is in the Mail", to the man he once equated to Jesus Christ, Father Greg Boyle ??
Non-profits like most for-profits entities are suffering through hard times made even worst by President Obama and those socialists that reign in Sacramento, but I digress.
Homeboy Industries has been held up as the shining example of what a non-profit, with an visionary front person can accomplish, with the sincere support of those in the public and private sector.
But sadly, sincere non-profits are being usurped by "connected non-profits", created by elite insiders, for the benefit of the exclusive few, not for the greater community.
And as you push Homeboy's "Virtual Carwash Fundraiser", which I'll link here, in the spirit of seeing a carwash use for something positive, and not for raising funds to bury another young life. Let me highlight how some "connected non-profits" use public money.
Take this motion on tomorrows City Council Agenda.
Barrio Action Summer Sports Activity - $10,000 --This activity will provide funding to
Barrio Action Youth and Family Center to support a summer sports program between July 1,
2009 and September 19, 2009, Sport activities will include basketball, volleyball and indoor
soccer. Funding will be used to provide a recreation coordinator and necessary sports
equipment A total of 200 youth will be served, (another handout to Tammy)

soccer. Funding will be used to provide a recreation coordinator and necessary sports
equipment A total of 200 youth will be served, (another handout to Tammy)
EI Centro de Ayuda-Youth Enrichment Project - $13,000--This activity will provide funding
to the EI Centro de Ayuda to support a community Youth Enrichment Project (YEP), YEP will
provide gang prevention and violence prevention services by working with at-risk youth and their parents on school campuses and in the broader community, engage and educate local
communities on these issues and to promote public policies that directly impact these issues,
Funding will enable YEP to focus on the community engagemenUeducation and policy
developmenUpromotion purposes of the Youth Enrichment Project, including costs associated
with holding community forums in northeast Los Angeles communities of Boyle Heights and EI Sereno, honorariums for key forum/community speakers, staffing the project, and publication of policy recommendations resulting from the forums, (Raul makes another Harley payment)

Then there is the new poster boy for "connected non-profits" Legacy LA.
But Celeste, while Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has yet to come through with the $500,000 for Homeboy Industries, let me share this little nugget of public funding coming their way from the proposed budget for the Summer Night Lights Program.
c. Allocate up to $210,000 for a contract with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) to
manage youth squad and community program coordination team members providing services at the 16 SNL sites; (the same group DWP payed $100+ per tree to plant)

****d. Allocate up to $200,000 for the costs of shirts from Homeboy Industries for SNL.program participants and staff; and
e. Allocate up to $50,000 for custodial services, utilities and staff time directed towards the
operation of SNL at the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center by the Los Angeles Unified
School District (LAUSD);

So Celeste, not all is lost for Homeboy Industries, at least until Antonio's associates come calling for those franchise fees/ campaign contributions.
Your thoughts...........

Homeboy is a joke that's why no one is giving them anymore money. Why did they buy a $10 million building? Father Gang Banger Boyle's gang members are still causing havoc in communities. Wendy Greuel should audit all the non profits in the city. More than $65 Billion is given to non profits in California only. Almost $1.5 billion alone in Boyle Heights where there are over 100 non profits but look around and you can't see a difference. The directors like the Tech Center's Ozzie Lopez drives a brand new Mercedes SL all on taxpayer money. Not all the Mayor's gang programs are even in the city. This is all a bullshit racket of our money. The Summer Night Lights guys working for Antonio are making big bucks too.

". . .worst by President Obama and those socialists that reign in Sacramento, but I digress."
Didn't you MEAN to say "but I digest"????

Sounds like Red Spot runs an UN-connected non-profit.
Make nice with Huizar and the dough will roll, Spot!

OMG!!! Leave it to the bimbo gang banger lover Janice Hahn and the other idiot Tony Cardenas to be y talking about another gang parcel tax. Yup, the Village Idiot Jeff Carr gave a made up report to their Ad hoc committee and like fools they fell for it. Are they no learning about all the gang bangers running these programs getting arrested? Didn't Janice Hahn support the gang banger in Watts and hurt the careers of two good officers and Chris Blatchford of Fox 11 called her out on? YES. Not one more dime to these losers. Clowncil idiots waste enough of our money now to help gang banger, I don't think so.

3:12, digress it is.
3:15, Huizar will be making nice to Richelle as he re enters the private sector in 2011.

Huizar better make nice with Richelle when he re-enters the private world and leaves the political world forever... Especially if he plans to keep Francine Godoy on a string and in his pocket.
Jose Huizar sucks at politics. He acts like a child when constituents question his intentions and support on issues that affect CD14. Always crying like a fucken Pansy!
Richelle in reality has 4 kids and Jose is the infant. A FAT one at that... Bald too : )
Daaaaah...
Huizar is so lame because he doesn't realize constituents have rights and taxpayer rights to question him and his actions when he fucks up and he has been fucking up for a long fucken time!
Basically Huizar is way too stupid for the political world... At the LOCAL, STATE and NATIONAL level... He doesn't have what it takes to lead! He is a not even a follower. He mentally masturbates about how he thinks he is so great. Poor child of ____.
That is why he always following Antonio Villar like a fart or a bad case diarrhea. AV another political loser. Later AV... You are out too!
You'll never make it either AV in state and national world of politics!
And please AV do not run for CD 14 again! You are not wanted there either. Get a job somewhere else!
Time to call Jimmy Hahn and Bradley from heaven to take care of the City of Angels!

Anonymous said:
Yes, Greuel must AUDIT ALL 501 C3 NON-PROFITS! ALL of THEM!
Start with East Los Angeles Community Corporation which is a poverty pimping organization that Huizar is connected to.

Homeboy should have spent all their money on that $10 million building. Dumb move and waste of money. Word is Homeboy has contributed thousands to various politicans campaigns. How can we find out how much and to who?? Is this the reason Laura Chick N Shit didn't want to audit them? does Wendy have the guts to do it?

Good stuff, Red Spot. We should talk. (Also loved the questionnaire posted above this post. I needed every one of those laughs. Poor Matt. Poor food ordering guy/girl. Poor....well, all of us.)
Now I'm going to go back to staring disconsolately at Jeff Carr's Tuesday report to the City Council. I'll post on that and although it won't directly answer your post, it will hopefully continue the discussion.
Celeste
PS: Yeah, $200,000 for shirts. On the other hand, if they had to buy the overpriced SNL shirts from somewhere, at least they thought to buy them from LA's one silkscreen outfit that relates to SNL's declared mission---as opposed to a vendor in, say, Wrightwood.

Celeste,
Thank you for the kind words.
Take into consideration that since today is Friday, one could come up with some other positive endevor than reading some bogus report from the "General Secretary of Gang Intervention".
BTW, is there a electronic version that you can send me at redspotincd14@yahoo.com ??
Looking forward to the dialog and keep away from those Black Widows.

The non-profit situation in Los Angeles is close to being a total fiasco. Is anyone minding the store? If they are, then try explaining the countless applicants with superior qualifications and degrees who are passed over regularly so that less qualified candidates with little or no comaparable experience or education can be hired by virtue of the "neighborhood" or "buddy" connection that they have to the staff and hiring recruiters who are as equally unqualified as them. Try explaining how employees who were fired for issues related to their ethical and professional behavior at AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION found lead jobs almost right away at JWCH Incorporated where they remain to this day happily on the payroll. Explain how those same Managers at that organization brand employees "unrehirable" who leave on good terms, give due notice, and leave without one disciplinary write-up on their record. Isn't it about time that non-profits like JWCH, AHF, and others were seriously investigated and audited to clear the record about potential discrimination and unethical practices in their staffing and hiring practices?

The blatantly unethical and discriminatory hiring practices, lack of timely evaluations, and lack of background checks needs to be investgated at all non-profits. The situation is outrageously out of control, and the clients who rely on services at these non-profits pay the price. People are being hired in supervisory positons who have serious ethical issues and lack the education and experience to justify their titles. It's a disgrace.
