Mark your calendars! Your first chance to meet, and hear from, all the candidates for CD2 will be in Sunland-Tujunga on August 8th! This Q&A forum will be moderated by Ron Kaye and Jill Stewart, so expect some tough questions! A segment of this event will be for open questions from the audience. This forum is sponsored by the S-T Neighborhood Council and the STA (the group I am prez of). Most of the candidates have confirmed to participate, with just a few left to be contacted.

CD 2 turning into a zoo...
13 candidates have filed intent papers downtown.
Sheftel, Krekorian, Essel, Sanchez, Benson, Essavi, Healey, Mc Cue, Galatazan, Pugliese, Klain, Bisani, and Zuma Dogg.
That's 3 more people than ran for Mayor.
Some of them will fail to get the signatures in time. It always happens. 500 valid is tough to get... especially in a small district and a limited window of time.
Essel, Galatazan, and Krekorian can all pay people to go out and get theirs...they will be in. Sheftel, Essavi, and Pugliese have shown a tough work ethic and will probably make the ballot also.
I'm rooting for anyone and everyone to beat Essel, Galatazan, and Krekorian... but it looks like it will be tough. Unfortunately for CD 2 voters, I could see two of those 3 making a runoff....
This isn't about endorsements. It's not even about money. It's about name recognition. With 12 in the field, Pugliese hits a runoff with one of the other three. George Bush called it "political capital."
Zuma says on his blog that if we vote for him he'll co-author motions with Zine that Trutanich wants, that sounds kind of good, "Zine-Zuma," kind of has a ring to it doesn't it?
Especially with Janice Hahn already not being as loyal to him as she should be considering they're both from San Pedro and he's treated her like a queen at his parties even though she didn't have the guts to officially endorse him until the end.
At his victory party when she took the stage she said it was a good speech especially since he took a couple of her ideas for it - I'd forgotten what line it was but Kevin James remembered last night and said it on air that she had a lot of nerve to try to criticize him, damn right.
And today in the Times she didn't agree with him and Zine about the AEG issue, demanded an accounting of benefits to the city - calling her a birdbrain is too nice. She wouldn't even be a council aide if it weren't for her family name, who does she think she is already showing disrespect to Carmine.
Will we be adressing him as "Councilman Dogg" or "Mr.Councildogg?" However he chooses to personalize and re-define the various titular formalities of city hall, I'M BACKIN' ZUMA DOGG for CD2 ALL THE WAY!!! And Zuma--I'd be happy to help get signatures, so I'll click on that Twitter-thing tomorrow and do the necessary manoeuvers. 11:08-- Wasn't Janice's delusory conceit based on that all-too familiar, already-hackneyed "Just say YES" paradigm? Whew! (And her glaring lack of self-awareness is the very LEAST of her crimes!) Anyway, GO ZUMA!! HOODIE-HOOOOOO!!
Phil, you said that you're going to get 240,000 signatures, and now you're saying that just getting 500 valid ones is tough.
So, it's safe to say that you're giving up on the foolish notion of a recall.
Please spare yourself the further embarrassment of having to answer for years and years to come that you weren't able to even get 100 recall antonio sigs.
If there is one thing I really dislike, it's cheating.
Zuma Dogg will not be able to prove residency, so I have filed a complaint that he is not a legitimate candidate for cd2.
End of story. I don't want the circus that already exists in city hall to become more of one due to his selfish behavior and childish antics.

But I do think Zuma-Zine would have a ring to it (who'd take top billing?) and they're both bald, loud, childishly vulgar egomaniacs.
Zine and Nuch do like Zuma so his idea of them being a Triple Threat isn't as far-fetched as it sounds.
But only Zuma knows the secrets of both Deming and Sun Tzu. With some Tony Robbins thrown in. I don't think Zine has ever read a book so Zuma is an intellectual compared to Zine.

No, zuma did NOT prove his residency. He CLAIMED his residency and you can be sure that I will draw attention to it. If he doesn't have a lease or mortgage with his name on it, it's going to be unverifiable and he will be disqualified. Plus, it will become abundantly clear to people that he is homeless, which will prevent any false confidences in him from developing.
Anyway, i don't want someone representing me if they are incapable of feeding and housing themself.
It would be a test of character to see if Trutanich accepts Zuma's help now that he's not just the aspiring, no name city attorney.
People are saying he's changed and become what he claimed he was running against -- he's been caught by the Times parking in front of City Hall in No Parking Zones, with a wink to the cops, shmoozing up the big politicians while barely nodding to those who make him who he is before running away. He's in love with the cameras that were all over L A for the Jackson thing so will he want to support Zuma, or defect to a bigger candidate? He'd pick the Republican but there isn't one in this race and he says he's grateful to Zuma so we'll see.

You do not have to have a mortgage, lease or even social security number to run for an election.

I agree with you that he's totally unqualified to represent me or you or anyone who's not homeless and annoying, but he claims that if he can.
Maybe you should find out how he was able to run for Mayor, when even his mailbox was in Malibu. Can you just claim that whereever you park your van is home? That whole thing may have been illegal but it didn't bother you when he was doing it to embarrass Antonio.
Frankly he's an embarrassment to the whole city and to Trutanich, but I agree with the person who thinks he and Zine are the same except that Zine's already on our payroll. Clearly being obnoxious is also a plus if you want to get on those radio shows and get free promotion.
So is all this talk about who's running moot now because signups closed at noon? And the Dogg didn't make it? What kind of a jerk starts to get petitions the night before.

9:30 I agree with you. CD2 residents have to work hard to get the right candidate. Obviously they are after the money. How many would be willing to cut the council's pay in half where it belongs. At least they should make less than state officials including NO Pension!!! Wouldn't that stop them from going after 3 terms!

He has lived in this city more tha n four years feeding and housing himself. He got 9K votes for Mayor. We must be the only 9K that had the ba---s to vote against Antonio, but Zuma is a survivor, without resulting to theft. I wish the Mayor and others of the council could make the same claim.
Pugliese has already called for cutting council pay.

847, if Zuma has housed and fed himself for four years as you state, then you're forgetting the other half of that equation.
He's been in LA for at least 9 years, thus he has been homeless and hungry for more than HALF the time he has been here.
He is not only homeless and hungry, and incapable of supporting himself with any sort of dignity, his rudeness speaks volumes of his inability to get things done. My granny can get a cable access show. So, what is it that you're saying he has accomplished? Specifics please. He hasn't accomplished anything. And before you say he got Trutanich elected, he didn't. Trutantich got himself elected because Jerk Weiss is a hated man. As to running for Mayor, he couldn't beat unknown Gordon Turner.

I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you.
It will be difficult for CD 2 candidates to get the signatures because they can only come from CD 2.
Antonio recall signatures can come from any part of the city. There is a hostile mood towards him right now....as evidenced by his big 9% showing in the Mayoral election. Four years of his leadership didn't impress anyone to go out and vote for him -- unless they were dependent on him for their paycheck.
Recall cannot be filed until October...when the Mayor has to be given legal notice. THEN you can start collecting signatures.
I can't do it by myself... I need a few thousand people to help out. If I can get the help, it will happen. If I can't get that level of support...then it won't happen.
If any of the big unions turn on Villaraigosa... he is in big trouble. They have the numbers to help make it happen.

The LA Times Villaraigosa Press Machine fired back up today by already declaring the CD2 City Council election a three way race between Anotnio Villaraigosa's THREE HORSES HE IS BACKING! Yes, this time City Hall insiders are LAUGHING that they have THREE candidates so they triple their chances after Measure B and Jack Weiss losses.
I'm not so sure that if I got on the ballot it would be as much of a slam dunk in the three-way race department between the three Villar-supported candidates, Chris Essel, Roger Krekorian and Tamar Galatzan as LAzy Times would like you to believe.
I WILL DISMANTLE ALL THREE OF THESE PEOPLE WHO ALL OF THE SUDDEN SEEM TO CARE SO MUCH ABOUT YOU AND THE CITY.
BUT FOR NOW...I AM HERE TO TELL YOU: SERIOUSLY...Although I am proud to say I got 1000 signatures MYSELF when I ran for mayor...I am not just hedging here when I say, "I ABSOLUTELY, 100% WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE SIGNATURES MYSELF THIS TIME!!!"
I KNOW IF I GET ON THE BALLOT IT WILL MESS UP THE PROGRAM FOR THE OTHER THREE VILLARAIGOSA CANDIDATES. I KNOW THIS FROM THE FEEDBACK I HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE COMPETITION/OTHER POLITICAL INSIDERS IN THE CITY.

There are some other fine grassroots candidates running I'm sure, but I haven't seen any of them at Council doing everything I have been doing to raise awareness and throw multiple wrenches in their machine.
I'd like to see THEIR cell phone minutes listening to people's complains and problems about City Hall over the past three years.
I'd like to read THEIR blog posts about all the way the city is screwing you.
And YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO GET THE ATTENTION NEEDED AS A GRASS ROOTS CANDIDATE.

Didn't beat Gordon Turner. He SPENT MONEY buying lunches for homeless on skid row and gathered their ballots (good for him) AND said he was "Deputy City Attorney" even though he was no longer working in the office anymore at the time he filed.
WHAT AWARENESS OR ANY GOOD DID HIS CAMPAIGN DO FOR THE CITY. He had the chance to get his message out on NPR, LA Times, Daily News, Good Day LA, radio and other TV and newspaper and CHOSE not to.
