Mid-Morning Briefs and Outtakes on Anything but Michael Jackson
"Observing West LA Life and his old, collectivist, shrinking Times blogger Kevin Roderick's favorite fishwrap, will have some new electronic competition when Ron Kaye's "OurLA Journalism Project" takes off.
And as Ron Kaye opines, the pressure at the "Old Gray Hag On Spring Street", is driving some like "Crayola Scriber" James Rainey to waste column inches on the journalistic merits of Fox 11 News Weather Gal Jillian Reynolds.
When, in the rare moment of television watching, that I tune in Fox Morning News and see Reynolds. The last thought in viewing Reynolds is "Pulitzer Award Winning Journalist", but then I can say the same thing about a certain "Westside Blogger", but I digress.
If the likes of the "Old Gray Hag On Spring Street" and the "Daily Moldy Green Sheet" want to survive as wrapping for my fresh Salmon or Trout, then one must return to "local engagement", rebuilt the wall between the newsroom and the opinion writers, then enthrall your local readers with stories that effect them now.
Maybe that is why the "Weekly of Record" has eclipse the "Former Paper of Record" in regard to breaking news and leaves the likes of Rainey to whine and cry.

SOMEONE ALERT Kevin James. . .
One of City Hall's LEAST powerful committees is being propped up for a "special" meeting to make us think they're paying attention to the people pissed off about the $20 out-of-LA City "box" lunches for MJ cops. Don't expect any earth-shattering changes to the process, however.

Paul Koretz is the chair?
Is this just interim or permanent?

HELLOOOO PEOPPPLLLEEEE These assholes put on the agenda to grand stand because they know it will bring out the media. All city council members and Mayor are MEDIA WHORES. They always do shit AFTER the fact like the idiots they are. Word is Matt Szabo and his other 7 press people and many city employees attended the memorial all on our dime and city time. How can we find out how many went and how much that cost?

Petra, you don't get out much, do you?
Koretz is the chair because Weiss was the chair, and he has Weiss' council seat and all his committee assignments now. But, as a previous poster noted, this is "barely" a committee. Council takes some of the ad hocs more seriously than this one.
"Public Safety" is like mom, apple pie, and hugging doggies. Just all "fuzzy" and warm.
Motion: "Everyone should look out for their neighbors, wave to the police, and keep bottled water in their garage in case of disasters."

I agree with Rainey here and about his assessment of Jill Stewart except for one thing: calling the 42-year old Reynolds "middle aged" and telling her it's time to "grow up." Just because a woman is over 40 or even 50 if she looks hot and feels like playing it, go girl.
Sure she comes off as pretty dumb, rude with her head in a magazine or text messaging ON AIR while her perky colleagues are reading the news (though she's probably right to be bored and reflects the audience's feelings there).
And above all that with Fox's conservative image, her wanting to be nude in Playboy and talking all kinky on Howard Stern is bad for their image. Rainey's point is that there are a lot smarter people being let go, who have a passion for the news she doesn't. So this is hypocritical in many ways.

No one pays for my lunches. Unless it is an emergency the city taxpayers should not be paying for lunches, especially provided by a vendor outside of the city of Los Angeles.
