Krekorian Kicks It Off
On the eve of the announcement of his run for the Second District City Council Seat (something we predicted months ago) vacated by now Controller Wendy Greuel, Assemblyman Paul Krekorian visited the Mid-Town North Hollywood Neighborhood Council Wednesday evening to shake hands and introduce himself.
Krekorian spent most of his time during public comment on non-agenda items (which unlike voters who attend City Council meetings is not timed for elected officials) touting various achievements during his legislative career and to squarely peg Governor Schwarzenegger for the state's budget mess.
Krekorian was asked by a board member of the Neighborhood Council "what he was running for," to wit he answered he is "considering" the CD2 seat. The Burbank Assemblyman who recently moved into an apartment in Valley Village announced his entry into the race - which has already attracted a wide field of candidates - at a press opportunity Thursday in Valley Glen.
The election to choose Greuel's successor will take place September 22nd. Expect a crazy campaign between now and then.

He will be the top dog in this race followed by Tamar.

Paul is an all around good guy who is picking up all the Neighborhood Council folks in the Valley.
Hard to dislike the guy once you meet him.

Tamar-no chance in that district and will raise bad money.
Mary Benson-great basics, not polished enough and without the ability to raise the money.
The others - who are they again??

Paul is #2 in the State Assembly behind Buz Cut Bass. Well Paul you have been there three years and the state is broke. I am sure the folks who were waiting for their checks will really appreicate the IOUs they are receiving instead. Thanks alot! As you have already started to shift the blame on Arnold, you must realize the disaster you helped create will follow you on the CD2 Campaign trail.
Being a Carpetbaggder may raise some eyebrows, but your attempting to leave the Titanic ahead of the women and children is much worse.
Stay in Sacremento and clean up your mess first. After all you can move into Tom's district after he terms out.

Paul is the Top dog in this race and has his seat in the Dec 8 Race,
Thats what the poll done by Essell shows, Paul in the top spot and Tamar second fallowed closely by Essell in the 3 way race (without all the other no Names)
Essell has paid top dollar on opposition research on Tamar and will be hitting Tamar HARD! (as payback from the Mayor, for the Millions he spent on the School Board Race). Essell's poll shows that after the hits on Tamar the runoff is Paul and Essell.

Don't count Frank Sheftel out of the race. He was the first to file papers and the first to start campaigning. The man is truly FROM the community rather than the carpetbagging machines. He's been showing up at most events from the beginning and is getting a great response from the community.
Watch out Krekorian and Essel...Sheftel might be a force to be reckoned with if he keeps up his grassroots campaign.....

I've heard good things about Chris and Tamar has been on everyone's radar for a while. Looks like CD2 will have some good choices to choose from.
I've known Paul the longest and agree with Anon 11:19.
Policy positions notwithstanding, he is an all around good guy, works hard and is very likable. He served on the Burbank School Board before the Assembly and would bring some great experience to the council office.

How is Krekorian supposed to change L.A. when he completely failed to change things in Sacramento?
The only think Krekorian wants to change is the size of his paycheck.

FOS
How the F*** do they conduct that kind of poll?

1:52 or Chris (Viacom Billboard queen) Essel staffer:
Its time to go back to spinning your BS with the down town lobbyist set.
So far she has had her lunch eaten by Tamar and Paul in the district.

Apparently Essel didn't factor in favorite son Pugliese who just entered the race yesterday.
6000 CD2 voters just voted for him 4 mos ago and another 2000 2 years ago.
Walk around CD2 and ask who's name the VOTERS recognize- Essel or Pugliese.
I agree- 9:10 is a crock.

Just came from Paul's kick off, about 50 or so Neighborhood Council types there to endorse him.
It looks like he has every one worth having north of Studio City lined up as endorsers.

I think your right, Paul has all the community leaders people and Chris has the downtown set.

Its Paul and then a fight to the death between Tamar and Chris for second.
The next round will be fun.

The LAUSD angle might be good enough to put Essel in the runoff. But I think Tamar's will campaign will be tearing Essel apart on her CRA gig and support of billboard companies.

How can Paul have the Neighborhood Council leaders behind him when half of the the other candidates are NC Board members and are running against him. The ones that aren't belong to SLAP and he and the other carpert bagging professional politicans are already in their cross hairs. Good spin job, you are earning your keep.

If this was an issue race (and no city race is) Pugliese would pummel all of them. Make no mistake, Tamar won't win by calling Chris an insider and billboard hugger. The best shot she has against Krekorian and Essel is the carpetbagger label. And Essel dinging Tamar for her LAUSD gig? Hah. What can SHE do? The ONLY one who can hit Tamar on LAUSD will be Pugliese.
The only negatives in this will be the carpetbagger thing. Watch.

The last Sacramento Politician to run for CD 2 was Tony Cardenas and he lost at a time the State legislature was far more popular than it is today. In fact, the legislature has never been less popular in the history of California. The last school board member from the Valley to win a City Council seat....has it ever happened? The only thing less popular than the legislature is the LAUSD. Essel and Pugliese will be in the runoff. Galatzan will be recalled and Krekorian will face a stiff challenge for reelection in his the Democratic primary after being embarrassed in the Council race.

Every one thought Barny Madoff was a "good guy".
A terrific line of BS and a carpetbag full of snake oil wrapped in dollar bills goes a long way in this city. IMO
Follow the money and watch who they sleep with.
