Vahedi Surges in CD5

BIG NAIL BITER IN CD5 - all but two precincts counted, Koretz lead over Vahedi now down to only 316 votes! Looks like Rick Orlov jumped the gun.

Don't they now have to count the mail-in ballots that arrived late, provisional ballots, etc, like they did for the Primary ? What kinds of numbers are we talking about for CD5 ? A lot of people waited till the last minute to send in their ballots.

David Berger covered it very well last time:

http://berger4cityattorney.blogspot.com/2009/03/watching-last-46000-ballots.html

A real public service.

It drives me crazy that they use "100%", when it's not really all of them.

Question for the group: Is it going to be like that again ??

Not only is it down to 316 votes difference, which means absentee and provisional ballots could make a difference. There is also the issue of 5 precincts where the sample ballots mailed were incorrect: neither Vahedi nor Koretz was listed. This affects the absentee ballots mailed from those precincts, and will need to be sorted out.

It is, supposedly, very rare that they are enough of them to sway election results. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

KOretz wins, but by a fingernail...

Koretz won the 12,204 early AVs by 6%. Vahedi won the 19,295 precinct votes by just 2%. The vast majority of remaining votes are absentees. Vahedi would have to win them by 8% or so in order to overtake Koretz. Not going to happen.

ZOOMA DOGG PLEDGES TO ONLY TALK ABOUT WETHERLY CAPITAL AND THAT IT MAKES NO SENSE ANY MORE TO SCREAM AT CITY COUNCIL. THE ODDS ARE THAT THAT PLEDGE WILL BE BROKEN TODAY.

As an outsider who has been following the race from the beginning, Koretz is hands down the more qualified and savvy of the two candidates. Vahedi alienated himself so much from the current City leadership he would have had a very difficult time building coalitions with his collages. Vahedi is all lip service, Koretz is the real deal.

Higby can you please write a story about how Matt Dowd is now permanently banned from City Council meetings. This is important and I think you have dropped the ball on this.

I hope that Zuma Dogg really lays in to Jack Weiss today even though weiss will probably not be there.

The matt dowd thing from yesterday came when he told the council people to fuck off or some thing like that.

May be we'll be surprised and weiss will tell zuma what we all want to tell him.

How can this District elect a guy like Vaheti who has run three times and goes on the ballot each time with a different name? Something doesn't make sense with this guy and I hope the voters are smart enough to figure it out!

Mat Dowd and Council Rule 16.

I think the City Clowncil asked the City Atty to report on "banning" Mr. Dowd.

When the City Atty reports back, then there's a story. Right now it's just a threat.

Peta, I was standing there and witnessed the whole thing. He is banned. Matt Dowd will not be allowed in today and they suspended the normal rules because he was swearing like a sailor in front of schoolkids who were in the room.

Do us all a favor and don't write when you don't know.

Petrafried,

Please watch the city council clip. Wendy Greuel was advised by the deputy city attorney that they could choose to expand the reach of the city council meeting rules to ensure that Mr. Dowd is not allowed in the room, and that they will have a special discussion about how to not only prevent Mr. Dowd from entering the premises today, but to provide a genuinely long term penalty for abuses.

I don't know if you are a fan of Mr. Dowd's, but it would be better for everyone if you didn't leave major slices of the truth out of your comment.

Sincerely Zuma Dogg

With all due respect, 9:34, I was listening pretty carefully on Councilphone and what the council was going to actually due was up in the air. The City Atty talked about suspending Council Rule 16 in favor of .... ??? A report back is due.

Believe me, I understand the outrage. Public comment is exactly that and with this council, they have become extremely antagonistic toward the public. Yes, there are perhaps inappropriate things said by us common folk, but when this is often our only opportunity to talk to our "representatives", they need to at least pretend to sit and listen.

Well I saw the children, and the looks on the CMs faces. You couldn't have seen the whole scene just by listening on the phone.

The CMs apologized and the children were ushered out. Mr. Dowd will not be back in the council chambers any time soon.

He is great. I love the pointed, articulate comments he makes, but it's not the first time he's used obsenities. At least ZD doesn't do that.

The man will be gone for a while. He will threaten to sue. It will go nowhere, and the cause of the agenda is lost with one less speaker.

You simply don't know all that happened by listening on council phone.

Zuma, I was summarizing. I'm not exactly known for that, and neither are you. I was just giving it a shot.

Since you were actually present (as opposed to just listening) why don't you explain the ins and outs of what happened, and where different people/entities are at fault. How could this have been corrected?

Petra,

He once brought in buttons and read them aloud, including "Fuck that shit," and other wild things.

It was a riot. But the cumulative effect of doing this is going to get him banned for more than one day.

Geez, really? Dowd did that? you're right - I definitly could not know that using councilphone, but then I am stuck at work and can only have "background" noise on while working.

Guess he's outta there for awhile. Not the brightest thing to do with children in the room.

[Again, you are a loser spin doctor because you start off being wrong when you say DEFINITLEY. Secondly you say, "ALONE" so even if I were to claim any responsibility, I wouldn't ever say "ALONE" dummy. But hell yeah, pushed hard for Nuch, but he had a little help from LA Times, Daily News, Baca, Cooley, additional endorsements, 2 radio stations, and THE PEOPLE!!!! (But I did what I could as a citizen.)

"Zooma can now have at Jacko with some impugnity; will he control himself? Stay tuned...I hope that Zuma Dogg really lays in to Jack Weiss today."

NO, that would be pointless and non-productive. Jack LOST -- and will not only NOT be city attorney, but is done as Councilmember.

So I think I have said his name for the last time and typed his name for the last time, except to maybe note that he is no longer attending any council meetings (cause he will probably rarely show his face in chambers anymore, so that's could be a slight issue) or unless he makes headlines in PENSIONGATE.

But besides that, adios Jack, hasn't been nice knowing ya, the activist job is done, and there is no need to mention you anymore because you are no longer a player in city issues.

I wish I had magic to show voters what really goes on with elections.

Anyone it seems can get their name on a ballot. Our system allows someone to have their name PLACED on our sacred voting ballot when they have broken the law! And, it's the law that has to do with campaign contributions! It has already been proven that this individual took contributions that exceeded the limit allowed by law. Why is his name on our ballot!

This information has been known for sometime by the Los Angeles Times and the Daily News. Why are the newspapers not printing the truth anymore? Do they really wonder why their circulation is down?

This council race is not over! At this moment this individual is 300 votes behind the person he has run against and 3,000 mail-in ballots still have to be counted. The other candidate has not broken the law. Why should anyone have to run against a proven liar and law breaker?

I do not personally know this man only his unlawful actions. If this man wins I will personally take him to court for deceiving the American voters and breaking the law. I will do everything in my power to have or change the laws in regards to a recall.

Most of us are either picking ourselves up or have already done so, after years of the letting the government beat us up. And, we did allow it!

This American citizen is saying NO MORE WILL THIS BEHAVIOR BE EXCEPTED. No more will we be deceived! No more will we put up with law breakers or newspapers that only tell us what they want us to know.
Aren't you tired of being lied to?

To change anything in life it starts with one person. I am willing to be that one person are you?

Let me know what you think.
