Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
My dad reads Mayor Sam everyday and when I don't write he is concerned if I am okay. Don't worry Dad, I was out of town on business and forgot to tell everyone. I'm back now and ready to have fun with the dum-dums again. Special thanks to all the Mayor Sam burros who kept the lights on, with a big welcome back to Red Spot. Lots of good stuff from the team below my crap here.
What makes Council Member "Hamburger" Jan Perry annoying to the the Lincoln High 90031 blog? Perry's "arrogance on ethical issues." Though she owns a home inches from the controversial Grand Avenue project and stands to see her property values increase Perry has failed to recuse herself from a number of votes on the matter.
The unions representing many of LA's public employees must be really scared of Carmen Trutanich becoming City Attorney as they plan to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of their members' money to oppose him. In the meantime, a parade of activists turned public comment at Tuesday's Council meeting into a bashing session on Trutanich's opponent, Council Member Jack Weiss.
Is the Daily News' Rick Orlov getting lazy? A story about redevelopment at the fabled Laurel Plaza shopping center in North Hollywood contains a few rookie errors by the "Dean of City Hall reporters." First off Orlov says the property is located at Burbank and Laurel Canyon (it's actually at Oxnard about a mile north of Burbank Blvd) and that the former mall once contained movie theatres (it never did). He also quotes a pipe dream of Tom LeBong's; that is to ask the developers to work with the MTA to extend the Red Line to the area. That will never happen.
Voters who approve big government bond initiatives based on the promises of politicians should take the following bait-and-switch into consideration. One of the promises of multi-million dollar bond measures offered up by the Los Angeles Community College District was to turn the site of the former Van De Kamp's Bakery in Glassell Park into a satellite campus of Los Angeles City College providing post-secondary education to residents of Northeast LA. Looks like the LACCD is going back on it's promise and instead of a college satellite the facility will house a labor center and a charter middle school, both of whom will pay rent to the District. Obviously, residents are up in arms.

Nobody even noticed you were gone, except for the fact that there were NO hotsheets on ANY day, and Phil Gendergone and Pink Dot posted boring, endless or outdated things. nothing about the budget talks the city is in now. not a word.
I predict that by tomrrow your clickety clicks fall to 20 and zuma dogg's rises.
Your "business" trip is a goofy excuse, since the internet is available everywhere including hotel rooms and you do own a laptop.

Instead of bashing others the way you do mayor sam, take note that Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Roderick takes the high road.
This morning he posts "An L.A. blog that aims high"
Why do you always bash others? You are just a big fat mean stinky bird turd.

Lazy? Geez, can't a guy make a mistake? It was one of three stories I was working on that day and I mistyped the location.

hael you are so blessed to have a dad who cares about you. Hi Michael's dad. You must think we're all crazy, but in reality we are all very passionate about our city.
Anronio is having his budget talk in front of the illegals Monday. He will tell them he is going to create one stop centers to help them. But forget about the rest of the residents who have lost their jobs and paid a fortune in taxes. Antonio is taking and shutting down CDD non proftis to help illegals. Everyone is staying away from crwods but the illegals are marching today using our dollars for permits.

Dear Mr. East Coast Investor:
Your email address was a fake so you did not get my reply so I thought I would let you know with a comment here. Because I can tell Mr. East Coast Investor posts comments here all day.
I left you on comment on the original post.

The arrogant assholes are marching and tying up our city. LA is on the brink of bankruptcy and I want to know how much this shit is costing. Zuma Dogg hit up your friends in city hall.

-- ``Immigrant Rights/Legalize LA,'' which will begin at 4 p.m. at Seventh Street, west of Alameda Street, then move north on Central Avenue, westbound on Fifth Street, northbound on Broadway -- converging with another march, eastbound on First Street and then north on Spring Street to City Hall;

They will all be marching back to Mexico as soon as the social welfare money runs out and there is no more money to send out of the country.

It would be fine if it was really a march for immigrants. Who doesn't like immigrants? Heck, the majority of the country is descendants of immigrants.
But marching for illegal immigrants...and the political establishment promotes this?

Rick Orlov is wrong more often than he knows. He gets "most" of the facts right, but that shouldn't be acceptable.

May today's marches be blessed with the copious sharing of Swine Flu-lets.

boo hoo. nobody cares what your dad reads. you could just as easily have sent him an email or called him. we don't need to hear higby go "wee wee wee" all the way home. Dumbass.

Yeah, my dad reads the Wall Street Journal but before right now, you didn't hear me whining about it.
HIGBY: why don't you go on another "business" trip and get the hell off of this blog. Turn it over to Zuma Dogg who is kicking your ass in clickety clicks you fat, obese freak!

Welcome back, MS. Let's keep Phil.
5:59, budget talks.
Yes, this is the hot news item. It's pretty clear I'm no professional reporter. (And yes, have fun with that. I don't fancy myself as one, just someone who occasionally has info that others might want to know.)Anyway, I was downtown for some of it yesterday and have been listening on Councilphone.
My feeling, and I guess this could be an editorial, is that [ahem] Zuma is right- it's a sham. The Mayor has created a City budget predicated on a number of things that cannot or will not likely come to pass (union consessions, parking sales, perfect complaince with the 10% shared sacrifice).
At some point the whole thing will have to come crashing down and these departments will have to redo their individual budgeting with the real City budget and a deficit of $750 mill-$1 bil.
Right now all I can do is watch. To sound like Simon Cowell, it's kind of like watching a dog who fell through thin ice on a freezing pond try to get back to shore. Surreal, slow-motion. Horrifying, yet mesmorizing. It's just a matter of time before it's over. Then it'll start all over again with the real budget.

Take it easy on Rick Orlov.
A wrong street intersection is not a big deal.
Not worth even commenting on it, let alone insulting someone over it.

It's easy to mock
~
Most writers mock politicians. That's their role.
Kevin Roderick mocks other writers. That's his.
UPDATE: Matt Welch is unimpressed with the new LAObserved cartoonist. I'm with Matt. Those look like parodies of editorial cartoons.

Did you assholes ever hear of the word "errata"?
It is to allow writers and editors to correct their mistakes.
My uncle used to say "If I don't make a mistake, I'm not doing any business."
Look, the DN staff is down to bare bones, from writers to editors, so we are damn lucky to have a guy like Rick around who knows his beat and writes with skill and knowledge.
Anybody can make a mistake and I, for one, am glad to allow him how ever many he wants.
Keep it up, Rick, you are the best thing the Valley has, and without you, we'd know nothing about City Hall.
Certainly that moron Dave Saltsburg could not cover this beat, nor can he spell his own name correctly.
These guys are a bunch of jerks, Rick. Don't take it to heart. We love you.
Michael Higby said:
We love Rick too and know that he's in a hella of a messed up environment - that's why more than ever we need him to be on top of his game.
Missing an intersection is one thing, maybe forgetting the mall never had movie theatres is another thing, but really not challenging such an idiotic idea by Tom LeBong? Come on folks.

Why would you drag ZD into this? You are as wacky as the tea baggers you scoff. For the record, I like Rick.

IF YOU WENT TO MEXICO AND DID THAT TO THEM, YOU WOULD BE BUT IN THERE FILTY PRISONS AND MAY HAVE TO PAY BRIBES TO GET RELEASED. THESE PEOPLE IDEALIZE "PANCHO VILLA" A THIEF, MURDERER AND DICTATOR WHO CREATED THEIR FINANCIAL MESS 100 YEARS AGO. THEIR ONLY BRIGHT WHEN IT'S IN THERE INTEREST TO BE. LOOK OUT WHEN THEY HAVE A VOTING MAJORITY. LISTENING OBAMA AND NANCY PELOSI THEY WON'T KEEP YOU AROUND WHEN MIGUEL RUNS.
