Swine Flu Hysteria Goes Global
The AP is reporting that the country of Egypt is getting rid of its Swine Flu risk by killing every pig in the country.Raising pigs is not illegal in Egypt as it is in a number of other countries with significant Muslim populations. The estimated number of animals who will be slaughtered based solely on an overreaction to a virus that to date has infected a minute fraction of the average number of people who actually die from regular flu annually in the US is ... 300,000 to 350,000.
And you thought your local TV station had taken the Swine Flu thing too far.

LA HABRA -- Octuplets' mom, Nadya Suleman, is vehemently denying reports that she worked as a stripper for a year, going by the name "Angelina."
The report, which surfaced in "In Touch" magazaine, claims the self-proclaimed "octo-mom" worked as an exotic dancer at a nightclub in San Diego at bachelor parties between 1999 and 2000.
Suleman tells RadarOnline.com that the reports are not true and says she is willing to go to court to prove the story is a lie.
The article relies on a limo driver, an exotic dancer named "Sage," and the owner of the strip club. All three, according to "In Touch" say Nadya danced at what is now Spearmint Rhino.
Suleman denies ever meeting the people who were interviewed in the story and insists that the closest she ever came to stripping was a lingerie contest at a night club when she was 19 years old. Suleman adds "I won!"
Suleman has asked her attorney to file a slander suit against the owner of the nightclub, saying "There is not one ounce of truth to this." Suleman goes on to say that the article is wrong in its claim that she tries to emulate Angelina Jolie. "No offense," she says. "But I wouldn't want to look like this woman."

9:55- example of another off-thread's topic to post a gratuitous hater message. Lots of posts on MS's blog have a few on-topic or theme, and then almost spam-like unrelated posts, some just cut-and-pastes of news stories, lots without attribution and dates for sources.
As for the topic, I suppose there's not anything in Egypt like 4-H clubs. And if so, this wouldn't help.

Egypt has a longstanding historical record at scapegoating.
Parts of Asia killed all the chickens during the outbreak of the poultry flu. So Egypt isn't doing anything different even it it seems overreacting because this swine flu is most spread by human contact in crowded conditions. Thy should be educating people to wash their hands regularly, cover their mouths and so on. But LOTS of people even in our society could use those reminders. Some who regularly pop up here.

THE FIRST CASE WAS IN MEXICO A FEW BLOCKS FROM A FACTORY FARM, WHICH THAT AREA'S MEXICAN RESIDENTS WERE TRYING TO SHUTDOWN; BECAUSE THE WATER RUN OFF WAS GOING INTO THERE WATER SUPPLY. THIS FACTORY IS AMERICAN SUPPORTED. THIS IS HOW THIS KIND OF PANDEMIC STARTS. IT MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM FOR YOU NOW BUT GIVE IT TIME.
