According to the Coalition to Ban Billboard Blight, the proposed new outdoor sign ordinance was supposed to be considered by PLUM on May 26th. I don't see that item on the PLUM May 26th agenda yet, altho that could change.
This ordinance brings to mind a couple of sayings, one involving too many cooks and the other pertaining to once you've screwed something up considerably, don't screw it up further.
Apparently, the City has not accomplished much with its halfbaked billboard regulatory approaches, other than greatly increase the billables of attorneys representing the billboard companies.
One more quagmire that Carmen Trutanich will be stepping into.
And another area in which Weiss can create mischief for the City, lasting long after Weiss has left his CD5 position.

Actually it's not Weiss who ruined Antonio's career, nor is it ruined by this one thing. He's come out of worse.
The blogs are saying it was the anti- Antonio bias of all the three major papers which made them hammer Weiss and choose someone who's "more like a Vegas pit boss" than material for a big-city attorney, not just in looks but his positions on issues he'll have to deal with.
Joe Mailander over at street-hassle.blogspot.com 5/20 thinks the anti-Weiss campaigning might be partly to get even with Antonio for not having hit him harder before March, and they're so derelict in their duties that when they finally disappear it won't be soon enough.
Celeste Fremon over at witnessla.com takes apart the Weekly's endless hit pieces on Bratton because he's associated with Antonio too.
So what we've got is all three papers writing hit pieces so further their own political pre- ordained conclusions, as Bratton tells the Daily News. (Except the Daily News and Times are little better -- maybe just not QUITE as obvious as Jill Stewart and her minions at the Weekly.) Then we can add the LA Mag cover, though the editor is "coincidentally retiring" right after it came out.
I think if Antonio got that close to Jill Stewart's boobs he'd want to do a lot more than the usual.

David Zahniser, Patrick McDonald, and other writers starting to FINALLY dig into City Hall corrupt practices is long overdue.
These were no hit pieces on Weiss. They were shining light where it should have been focused long ago.

Zahniser and McDonald are doing a tremendous public service. It's called "investigative journalism," and this town has been without it for far too long.
Instead of merely re-printing career politicians' press releases, or broadcasting their photo-ops, these two journalists actually investigate City Hall and report what they find.
Real reporting like theirs could, I suspect, boost the circulation of their papers. In any event, I'd like to see more cross-pollination between Zahniser and McDonald, on the one hand, and McIntyre and James, on the other. Each could increase the audience of the other, and "wake up" more voters to what's going on in this city.
The contempt for journalistic integrity as long as it benefits them displayed by his acolytes here is exactly what we've seen of the Nooch and his "style" so far.
I think I just need to set up a "recall Antonio hotline" to take calls from people who want me to be involved in a "Recallaraigosa" campaign. I think 40,000 signatures is all it takes to get it on the ballot, because of low voter turn out during the March election. You can file for the recall 90 days after he is sworn in on July 1st.

I was just wondering, what does it mean when the price mechanism is interfered? It means that there is less likelihood rather than more likelihood that there is fairness in the allocation of resources beginning with precious resources like water and oil that are not replenishable.
What few realize is that there are other resources that get blindsided when mindless rogues hijack the marketplace, and less greedy and malicious animals become extinct as the increasingly deprived of humanity human keeps constantly trying to take advantage of the next person all the while talking about “saving human lives” whether it is scientists coming up with new medicines, new cures; and yet illiterate people know the problem is that there are too many humans who are so very out of touch, but how can mindless people objectively gauge that their words a product of the company they keep and the mostly dead food they eat don’t come close to matching up with mindless action that the rest of the animal kingdom seem to get right from the start; less food less of them and there is more of them; it is just that they are increasingly domesticated animals because we civilize-tame them, make them our friends and then eat them, not because we are physically stronger, because we are not, just better with weaponry.

On Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. the Supreme Court of California will post its decision on its website regarding the constitutionality of Proposition 8.
I'd say Carlos Moreno's seat on the US Supreme Court may be in the balance...

We don't mind good investigative reporting. Everyone is asking why didn't David Z report Trutanich clients if he's a good investigative reporter and it was legal to do so? The Kelly Candaelle piece was brilliant. Factually, what was the slur their? It was the truth; a city councilmember (Weiss) attends a fundraiser hosted by a city commissioner. That's a crime. 49.7.8 of the LAMC says so, not the Daily News. So how does reporting a sitting LA Councilmember's involvement in a crime become is some way wrong?
As for Weiss's fundraising with a convicted felon, Fox 11 got there first and beat the print media to the story. If David Z was what you say he is, he'd have run the story too.

Those who know me will tell you I hate flaming. I must make an exception however. It apparently hasn't crossed your walnut-sized mind to view the public video on the Los Angeles City website regarding the petition drive to recall Mayor 55% (reference my previous comment). It's there in the archives for all to view.
As for your erroneous conclusion that Mister Dogg plans to finance it, I have it on good authority that Mister Dogg has had nothing to do with this particular movement - and neither do I. It came as something of a shock to me, but I wasn't surprised - my assumption was that the recall effort would be launched after he started serving his second term.
That the recall effort is being launched in the waning days of Mayor 55%'s first term makes for some interesting legal questions - it would be much better if this particular individual or committee were to hold off until the second term has started. The down time between the present and Mayor 55%'s beginning of his second term could be used in organizing this recall movement.

Walter you're missing the point. "Everyone" means a lot of people who attend meetings where they circle the wagons and talk. The problem with David Zahniser's reporting is the bias was so blatant. C'mon you had to be blind, deaf and dumb not to see it. Steve Lopez doesn't write 6 hit pieces in a row the week before the election. The other problem with David Z reporting is fine if you want to go after Weiss as many of us wanted BUT when you don't report the clients of Trutanich as many radio talk shows, op ed pieces and others asked for which was legal and David failed to do that's a big problem. That's where he lost his cred. He never reported the sneaky, deceitful TV commercial Trutanich aired. IF Weiss had done that sneaky commercial you know David Z would have reported it.
Wacky Whiny Walter is saying that the media couldn't be THAT rightwing because if it were, it would have covered and promoted HIM sooner and harder, not just on the talk radio airwaves of Kevin James, Jon&KEN, Doug McIntyre, all of whom were for him and his ticket and then switched to Trutanich as the closest.
Well, the Times did give him a feature before the election which made him a whole lot MORE of a mainstream candidate than he deserved.
But they couldn't do TOO much without being more obvious, seeing as his staunchest supporters like "West Valley Dave" and countless other regulars on the Daily News, refer cheerfully to "Greasy Tony" and in every post reveal just how repellently revolting they are themselves. When THAT is your main base, of course you have to sit here and claim that the media isn't biased ENOUGH.
This was a case where these rightwing buffoons literally got out the unwashed masses (think one local mascot who's Michael Higby's candidate of choice for Mayor) and went for the WAY lowest common denominator.
That Trutanich at SOHA last Wednesday, disgusting. Standing in front of a giant poster of his own campaign, phony pompous pieties about "slaying the philistine," what a buffoon worthy of his compadre Zine. And if you look at Ron Kaye's report on that meeting, the comments expose Jane Usher's absolutely ignorant take on two major issues, the trash fee hikes being usurped by the new "heroes" of the Budget committee, and billboards.
You people wanted some pompous uncouth novice who wants to return L A to its last gasp of provincial tribal buffoonery, buckle your seatbelts.
Here's the real scoop. Weiss made an issue out of opposing illegal billboards and supergraphics and was involved in cracking down on them, while Trutanich gave it lip service but never lifted a finger against them -- like with every other issue.
Instead, he favors a 2-year moratorium on all new legislation i.e. to "study the matter" to come up with the "best solutions" which include the desires of residents AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, which favors more billboards. And the councilmembers who demand sign districts to stand permanently will fight for every inch.
During this time, billboards will proliferate at an accelerated rate, bigger and flashier and more dangerous than ever. They will all be grandfathered into the new law. Drafting of which will be dragged out as long as possible.
So while he's had Usher out there trying to pin the blame on Weiss for being "the only other lawyer in the room" when Rocky handed the companies that favorable deal (but in fact Weiss wasn't told the details at the time anymore than anyone else), she's also been saying in that quiet voice of hers that we should "take a pause" for two years before doing anything.
THE BILLBOARD COMPANIES OWN TRUTANICH, like they did Rocky. They also put pressure on Antonio and word is, the cash-starved MSM.
This election, like the last one against Feuer, was brought for you, bought for you, by the billboard companies. Except learning from their last mistake they didn't so much give Trutanich money or free ads they had to declare, but got his opportunistic promise, as did every other special interest group he could broker a deal with.

One of Trutanich's hardest workers, Mort Allen, had posted on L A Times NOW blog a while ago that they would take advantage of the fact that Weiss was trying to stop illegal billboard activity.
So they'd use that against him to broker a deal with the companies: meanwhile saying one thing to get the gullible old white people's support (the kind who really care about the issue, and respond to Trutanich's phony pieties like "we slew the philistine thanks to you" sickening stuff he told SOHA on Wednesday) but in fact, promising to drag out future legislation for two years or more, as long as possible.
So they could bash Weiss by unfairly blaming him for what Rocky did by no linkage other than he's a lawyer too, and yet use his refusal to cave to the billboard companies against him.
Who better to pull this off than jane Usher, with that voice that sounds like she's always on the verge of tears for the city? And has demonstrated commitment to it. How much she is intentional accomplice, how much suckered, we'll have to see.
I think were all being fooled by someone with quite a wry sense of humor. After all, the very notion that anyone who reads and comments on this blog would condemn any report for outing a sleazy morally corrupt politician like Jack Weiss is laughable.
Frankly I am impressed with the way 'big media' did a real service for Los Angelenos and published the shocking truth about Jack Weiss and all the corruption that he brings to the table.
It wasn't David Z, however, who came out with the truest words ever said about Weiss; that he is "Unfit" for the position. That was courtesy of the Times Editorial Board.
You really have to wonder just how low you have to go to get the label "Unfit" from the TImes? Unable to identify any sources for his vague references to "everyone," he has two responses:

Change the subject: call his opponent a right-wing gun nut. Can't disprove L.A. Magazine's conclusion that Villaraigosa is a failure? No problem: just claim the magazine's circulation is low.
Poor staffers. Three more years, and it'll be time to put down the keyboards and pick up the leafblowers.

Berger's website has a picture of Weiss hugging a staffer after it was all over. Who is more worried - Weiss or the staffer?
Both should be because when Trutnich, Cooley and O'Brien all sit down after July 1, and figure out who get to lead the Grand Jury, it'll be the same as in New York - first to make a deal doesn't get jail raped.
Staffer must be wondering if Weiss will finally get to use his 'experience' as the US Attorney's office and get a deal before she does. The rats are leaving the SS Weissgate faster than Jack can spin a lie. And that's fast.
All this crap about Trutanich, the Times and billboards is just more smoke and mirrors. Face it Weissholes, you're all going down and Jackass is going to take you down with him.

Conclusion: no one, aside from the anonymous staffer, has anything but praise for the true investigative reporting done by Zahniser and McDonald. Nor has anyone come forward with a scintilla of evidence to disprove a single statement of fact in either journalists' articles.
This shows the depths to which the the puppets in office in L.A. have sunk.
Then again, perhaps the problem is they don't realize they are merely puppets for special interests. Perhaps they're deluded into thinking they and their bosses are in office because people support them, when in fact it's just special interest money that put them there and keeps them there.
Anyhow, looking ahead, let me recommend one of the electric leafblowers, so you can tout your "green" credentials and keep that carbon footprint respectably small.
That picture of Weiss on the street by the Times is another case of just meanspirited and selective reporting.
You can bet that if it had been Trutanich they'd have shown him in a hopeful spin saying something like "we came close, next time I'll win," pushing that boxer picture they used while only slinking on the street to get Weiss in the most unflattering moment.
I'm sure he's shrugged it off by now and has a lot of good options. He's got a lot of support from his own original base and the democrats. It's unfortunate for him that he got too closely tagged to the mayor who he helped make -- the papers clearly tried to clip Antonio's wings by all the hits on Weiss.
I agree with poster who said if Weiss had used an unauthorized Bratton endorsement they'd have featured it big, but they refused to even print it. Weiss never even used Baca when he had the chance, didn't seem to want anything less than the strongest endorsement. Trutanich didn't have the decency to not use someone who explicitly did not endorse him and expressed doubts.
If Weiss had claimed to be running on things he hadn't done in 25 years and since done the opposite, you can be sure the Times would have dissected every bit of it.
They reported mere unfounded griping from some colleagues who were jealous he was running for higher office, who questioned some of his claims-- even though it was all documented and they could easily have shown it as would have been professional and ethical instead of just printing the griping. In a couple of cases they printed the confirmation of his claims MUCH later, so that the original falsehoods stood alone.
Meanwhile they were a virtual P R operation printing Trutanich's untruths verbatim.
He clearly is an ungracious man, a chest-thumping bully like Joe M says, a throwback. Spiteful even in victory.
And on both billboards and trash fees for hikes, his spokeswoman Jane Usher also gratuitously and falsely hurls blame to SOHA on those videos, she's clearly outed as both uninformed and talking out of both sides of her mouth to hurl blame where it's clearly not due.
With all the media extreme bias and being on the ballot with tax measures that draw out the conservatives to vote them down, this election was a fluke, "tribal"/ The last gasp of throwbacks from when L A was a provincial hick town run by pompous bullies.

If the rest of the city staffers worked as hard as you maybe the mayor would have had a little more credibility. As it was, the mayor's obsession with Jack Weiss has widely perceived to be as hollow as his other promises.
The 'points' you made about media bias against Jack Weiss do not bear close examination, but let's take a looksee for the hell of it;

Weiss had known that someone within his campaign had leaked details about the felon fundraiser for 5 days at that time. Weiss lied, contributions died. Agreed?

Oh, and in case you weren't watching Weiss's pathetic tv ads, the 'no brainer' ad was dropped in the run-off, Weiss spent all his tv ad money on attack ads.

Excuse me, but everything Weiss did since he was last in court for the US Attorney's office was 10 years ago, and everything he's done in the 8 years in City Hall are nothing but phony baloney photo ops and manipulation of various crisis; rape kits, cops, billboards, and overdevelopment. Weiss had no positive record whatsoever; just a string of hollow claims, and a record number of ethical violations.

As for the billboard debacle, you people claim Weiss has no responsibility for this. But he did vote for it. So when it's cops he votes for, it's to his credit, but when it's f'ing up the billboard settlement, voting for that has nothing to do with Jack. Hollow. Very hollow; Jack's claims just don't fly.

People also noticed that in their feature article slamming Parks for his giant police pension, they never mentioned Zine, who also gets $80 thou a year from exactly the same source. Why? Because Zine is Trutanich's fellow vulgar chest thumper, and they gave him LOTS of space in the paper during the campaign to just vent his hatred for Weiss and spew lies about his record that should have been vetted then and there but of course weren't.

They endorse someone, then have a vested interest in seeing that person win, at any cost.
