Mayor Sam's Saturday Hotsheet

The LA Times reports that City election officials are still counting ballots from the primary election earlier this month. Though most races' outcomes are certain two items remain in question. Measure B which appears to have lost is edging to the too close to call category as well as the 6th District Board of Education race between Nury Martinez and Louis Pugliese in which less than a percentage divides the two candidates. In the meantime Walter Moore thinks that if he isn't pushed into a run-off it will be because the City Clerk fired up Oliver North's shredder. Please ask Walter if he also believes the Federal Government is holding aliens at Area 51.

Maria Shriver says she's not running for Governor to succeed her husband but another member of her family is mulling a run for statewide office. The Santa Monica Daily Press reports that Shriver's brother Bobby is considering seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General if Jerry Brown runs for Governor.

It's been a while since we've heard from him but he's back! Vice President Joe The Biden demonstrates why he's the gift that keeps on giving when he's caught on a live mic dropping some f-bombs at a recent event. Hear the audio.

Westside White Guy caught a typo in the LA Times. It's Anna - not Ann - Nichol Smith. LAObserved via Mayor Sam Twitter

Make fun of Double-Dub (Wacko Walter) all you want. But he is onto something.

Not for the Mayor's race. But I would watch the ballots for the Solar initiative VERY closely.

Moore declined to help the No on B activists. Finally Noel Weiss stepped up to the plate.

Moore was being childish because he wasn't selected to write the No on B argument.

Mayoral candidate Walter Moore, who trails Villaraigosa by more than 67,000 votes but notes that it's still "mathematically possible" to force a runoff, called for vigilant coverage by the media to ensure that ballots "don't grow legs and wander into a shredder."

Arleen Taylor, chief of the city's elections division, said she "can't imagine" why anyone would believe some sort of conspiracy is afoot. If they request, candidates and other members of the public are permitted to stand over the shoulders of elections workers as they inspect the ballots.

"Walter Moore thinks that if he isn't pushed into a run-off it will be because the City Clerk fired up Oliver North's shredder."

Never said any such thing.

On the contrary, I've said it is statistically likely that there will NOT be a run-off. Although a run-off is mathematically possible, Villaraigosa's margin almost certainly means there will be no run-off.

Measure B is a different story. The margin there is slight, to put it mildly. There are literally billions of dollars at stake. Nor has anyone from the press or the City Clerk's office ever explained what security measures, if any, exist to prevent removal or destruction of ballots and petitions.

Nor is the possibility of tampering merely hypothetical. I believe Althea Shaw when she says she delivered 76,000 signatures for Jamiel's Law. The City Clerk's office claims she delivered just 18,000. But where is the showing of any safeguards? Were the petitions put in a locked box? A locked room?

Same story for the remaining 46,000 ballots. Are they locked up? Are there any "Sandy Berger" safeguards? I think those are legitimate questions.

But instead of addressing the issues in a meaningful way, you distort the facts and choose to belittle me for God only knows what reason. Money? Hits? Pique?

Let's check Bobby's (Robert Sargeant Shriver II)record:

He was admitted to the California Bar in 1983 but on 9/27/1999 he was; "Suspended, failed to pay Bar member fees and was declared Not Eligible To Practice Law".

He fixed that and must have paid up in 2001 because he is listed as "Inactive" as of then.

But, once again, on January 12, 2009 he must have decided that he might want to run for Attorney General, so, what did he do? He finally went active and paid his dues (always less than $500 a year).

So, since he wants to be AG, he figured he'd best pay up and be licensed, just in case he won.

C'mon, folks. Bobby Shriver can't afford $500 a year to be a lawyer? I mean, couldn't he get a loan from his brother-in-law or withdraw a few bucks from the huge Kennedy Trust that enables him to be an "activist" here in the Peoples Republic of Santa Moscow?

Heck, you'd have thunk he might have learned a little something from the adventures of his cousin Caroline of late.

So, just in case you missed it, Bobby-boy, let me make it clear:

There is no more "royalty" here in America. Caroline Kennedy took her previously golden aura and ran it through, "you know", the gutter, pandering to ("you know") a third rate "Governor" who ("you know") got there because his predecessor liked("you know") expensive hookers.

That fat windbag Uncle of yours is about to be planted, and the press may or may not supress the stories that ran when he killed that poor girl and tried to get yuor cousin Joe Gargan to take the rap. Ain't no more Camelot; Teddy blew it for all of you brats.

You won one local election, Bobby, and you've had your appointment to the State Parks Commission. If you want to grab the brass ring, get ready to find out about real politics. You won't like it; not a bit.

Your fifteeen minutes are up.

Walter no one is making up things about you.

You suggested funny business in the ballot count. Your implication is that there could very well be enough votes to get you into the run-off but they're shredding ballots as you think they did with the Jamiel's Law petitions.

If that was the case, trust me someone would blow the whistle.

The truth is you lost. You squandered your opportunity, you didn't listen to people who could have helped you actually force a runoff, you turned off many supporters and you were so arrogant that everything had to be your way. You blew it. A bitter pill to take but it is what it is.

I think you could turn things around and maybe win office but that remains to be seen.

More of Walter Moore and his hair-trigger reactionary temper. Tsk tsk tsk...

Leaders have to be able to take criticism and wisecracks. And deal with it....

With someone like Walter and his big law degree, (which he brags about non-stop) don't you think he should have been smart enough to have the Shaws photocopy EVERY petition page so that they could prove the signatures actually existed?

Just in case there was a dispute with the clerks office?

I photocopied all the pages on my election signature petitions just as a backup in case there was a dispute over the number of signatures collected.

I only graduated from a Big Ten University and dropped out of Law School after one year...

... but I was smart enough to understand the concept of backup files.

Maybe if Walter had spent a few dollars less on hats and a few dollars more at Kinkos, Jamiels Law would have been on the ballot, and he might have forced AV into a runoff with the resulting publicity.

Tsk, tsk. Phil "I'm a leader" Jennerjahn finished LAST, behind the socialist he insulted as "Taco Truck Alvarez." And, pardon me if you find the truth offensive, but he dropped out of law school. You may want to stop describing yourself as a "rising star."

Jennerjahn also "guaranteed" he would get a far higher percentage of votes than I did in 2005. Where do we go to get you to honor your guarantee, Phil?

Hiby, you're so full of crap it's unbelievable. You're an expert in campaigning, are you? Prove it. Get yourself elected to an office -- any office. THEN talk about how it's done. Your backing -- and the misleading ballot description of "Economist" -- got Zuma Dogg exactly how many votes?

And you did indeed make crap up about me: I never uttered the statement you attributed to me.

You are unable to challenge me on the facts, so you just make up new, false facts, and attack those. It's called a "straw man."

It's time for YOU to "move on." Find someone else to write about. Use your superior campaign knowledge to get Jennerjahn, Zuma Dogg and yourself elected to office. Show the rest of us how it's done. THEN you can call me arrogant.

But leave me out of it, if you please.

I'm outta here. If I want to discuss things with crazy people, there are plenty of them at various medians around town.

P.S. I never uttered a harsh word about David Hernandez. On the contrary, I said that if anything happened to me, people should vote for him.

Furthermore, two years ago, I urged him to run for City Controller. I thought his background as a claims adjuster would be really good for that position: he would have the skill set to evaluate claims about how people are using -- or misusing -- public funds.

Oh, but I forgot: you get to just make up whatever crap you like about me. My mistake!

Zuma,

Not sure why you think that it's not him.
I'm pretty sure it's Walter.

Thin-skinned. Hyper-defensive.
Picky about minor, petty details.
(Even the media writers described him as "arrogant" and "prickly".)

It's funny that Walter can spend four years bashing Villaraigosa, but loses it whenever someone criticizes him even in the slightest amount. He really lost it at the forum at USC when I teased him about his making a prediction that he would get 20% of the vote in 2005.

He called me "unemployed".. which isn't true... but I didn't feel the need to even respond that night because he was making himself look bad as a candidate.

Zuma, you might remember him making a few choice criticisms of you also, at the Sunland Tujunga forum. Some of his comments seemed mean-spirited and petty....but that is only my opinion.

I always felt that Walter was a poor candidate.
It shows poor leadership to pick on other people for their shortcomings.
His petty comments do not inspire others.

He is right about one thing, though.

My showing in the election was very poor.
Much worse than I expected.

I thought Conservatives would turn out in droves to rid themselves of Villaraigosa, but it didn't happen. A 15% turnout for a Mayoral election is humiliating and depressing for a City of this size. (Much of it thanks to the media -- who did their best to make sure that nobody even mentioned our names or even mentioned that there was an election coming up.)

But I was only running for Mayor for about four months. Walter had been running for four years. I only spent about five grand on my campaign. I didn't achieve great results.

Next time I will be more prepared and will perform much better.
